    Does running the test on the same bike multiple times always give near enough the same time? They definitely need more info than star ratings for each bike with such time differences. Even without being a brilliant rider I want the best value for money/drps!

    • @chrisgilligan4968
      @chrisgilligan4968 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The reality is that there is hardly any difference at all between the worst bike and the best one. We're talking in seconds not minutes. Spend more time on Zwift and get in better shape. A large part of their pace algorithm comes down to watts/kg. Build your watts, lose some kg and you'll do way better than hoping a different bike or wheels is going to make much of a difference....more or less like the real world. Although I suppose in the real world the differences might be ever so slightly bigger between a entry level bike vs a mid range or a top of the range bike.

    I'm not knocking the video....It is great to quantify the better bikes from the weaker ones....but almost nobody in this range of levels is riding 360 watts average over a 41 minute course. Also not many in this range are probably all that concerned with 20 seconds from the worst of your level 0-10 bikes to the best of your level 10-20 bikes over a 41 minute course. At my cycling level, I wouldn't be able to perceive any difference I don't think from one to the next. I am level 16 and have a long way to go to be able to purchase my own road bike on Zwift....but meanwhile I am riding the Cannondale EVO with Enve 3.4 hoops.

    • @rockhopper01
      @rockhopper01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Irrelevant. The purpose of selecting a set power output is merely to level the field for the test. It’s not about total realism.

    • @chrisgilligan4968
      @chrisgilligan4968 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rockhopper01 The reality though is that the difference between a $3000 bike in the real world and a $13000 bike in the real world is probably those same 20 seconds over a 41 minute time trial. It is all about the style. And for some, the snob factor of having the $13000 bike.

  • @HenryAshman
    @HenryAshman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd be keen to see how the challenge bikes do against these (so the Dogma F8, Spec Tarmac & the Trek Emonda). Dunno how feasible it is to complete a mission before level 10, but might be worth a look.
    I was surprised at the Ribble though, quite a few of these results seem different to the Zwift Insider results, but then they do a flat TT test and a ride up the alpe, rather than a "bit of everything" test like this. Also they run theirs at 300W for a 183cm tall rider at 75kg, given height affects aero and weight is weight, wonder if the performance benefits of each bike change relative to that 🤷‍♂️. It would be a lot simpler if Zwift explained it all.
    I kind of like the idea of having all the bikes the same for pro races & sponsored championships (e.g. the British one) as that doesn't disadvantage new riders who haven't put the miles in to get the Spec Venge S-Works & Disc wheels, or the Tron bike. Either that or unifying the star ratings so riders can choose a climbing bike or an aero bike from their sponsored options, probably worth doing the same with wheels too.

  • @mrvwbug4423
    @mrvwbug4423 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Never quite understood unlocking these bikes at such a low level, you will be well over level 10 before you have enough drops for most of them. They really should either lower the drop prices on the bikes that unlock at lower levels, or increase the rate at which you collect drops. I'm currently at lvl 7 and am maybe 1 ride from having the drops for the ENVE SES 3.4 wheels, definitely not even close to a bike which costs 400k drops. I was considering not buying a bike until lvl 11 and getting the Tarmac Pro, though that Cannondale evo is cheap enough to be affordable to someone at level, and maybe have enough drops to get the ENVE wheels too, which should be a great climbing combo. Especially for my setup which is running a hardtail MTB on my wahoo, my top end is non-existent, I'm spinning my top gear on flats.

    With an unrealistic power to weight and the rider small for your testing your results will always be bias to aero, even when climbing. You should test them again for a more typically rider and at a realistic power for an hour ride 2.5 to 3w/kg maybe.

    Hi Chris, nice video
    just a question, how can you stand the watts constantly equally on all bikes to make this test?

    • @chrispritch
      @chrispritch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We have software that helps us maintain watts at a constant!

    would love to get your thoughts as to why pro cyclists aren't just winning every race? does the fact that it is Zwift really make such a big difference? Dowsett came in 63rd today which just doesnt add up!

      one hes at altitude ad two he is being honest with his weight,hope we eventually get this sorted as its making racing stupid.

      another one is that a lot of pro`s have not yet figured out fully the gaming aspect of zwift and how max this out. pro zwifters do

    Surely having pros compete on their team sponsor bikes, even though they may be inferior to other teams’ machines is the same as real world racing. At least the unsponsored masses get to take their pick. I am surprised that the bike manufacturers allow their new bikes to be added to zwift with substandard stats though. Doesn’t seem like good marketing for them...

      I think it won't matter much if the Pro/Am races continue for awhile, the pros will learn the tricks for Zwift racing and then their sheer fitness and conditioning will get used to full effect in Zwift. A lot of these pros have never ridden Zwift before, so don't know all the ins and outs of Zwift yet, I've yet to see a pro lose a race in Zwift by simply getting out performed on fitness, it's always been a case of unfamiliarity with how Zwift racing works.
