You were right the first time! Shrader is the correct name and you can do this test with a bicycle pump which has a built-in manometer. Thanks fkr the valve and hoseclamp idea! 😊
great help.I found some water this spring.Dealer missed it last fall for winterizing.Sure saves time doing our own work as I have 268 searay alpha 1..Bought it in 2009.Had some work on it and no problems since.Again thanks much
You robbed the guy blind,,, LOL holly shit what a great deal!!!! Love your videos I'm doing my transom on my 1972 Chris Craft lancer, your videos gave me the courage to go for it, thanks for teaching me how, I watched all your videos on your Sea Ray
Thst pointed nose cone helps with fuel economy since you do not have a high speed boat. you may have to run a different prop since the lower gear ratio is gonna be higher than the one on your heavy boat.
Your new lower case probably has a different gear set, personally I would've just replaced the output shaft of your old lower unit its quite easy to do
WOW!!!!!!! the seal kit and gears alone is 300.00 for a alpha 1 for a bravo prob like double. an i need to redo my seals. i had water in my gear oil so im going to use this format to test my pressue.
A little video tip, place the camera on a tripod and take your final scene for the day, (leave the camera at the same location and still on the tripod) with your camera still on the tripod start your scene the next day. Use a dissolve effect to transition the previous night scene with your new day scene. It would look more professional. Great video and great score.
its for surface piercing props like cleavers.. which work best when they get 1/2 air 1/ 2 water. Either way, you can mount it higher so the prop gets some air, but your water inlet stays submerged.
@goldens984 It should be. It has been raining on stop since I bought it, and I have not had a chance to go look at my Sea ray to see. This one s a 1.50 to 1 ratio, and I think that is what my boat is.
darnit frisco... that half silver half black idea was mine! lol on my build on iboats its post 141 take a look. i think it would look really nice.. my rebuild is on hold until i get my house which should be coming up end of april!!! still on track for my splash goal though. Take care -74bayliner
I know this is an old video, but I'm getting ready to go down the road you've traveled several times and going to totally rebuild a boat I just bought that was neglected. I don't have a marina close. Where would you suggest to look for parts online that have good prices. I have an old Mercruiser GM motor and Alpha 1 outboard. Thanks. BTW I've been watching all your vids in order and you very thorough, bravo!
It cost $3,000 to replace the lowers of two bravo three's. They became so corroded that it was unsafe to use. Luckily it happened within months of our warranty ending so Mercruiser covered it.
Don't be afraid of the nose cone, heck it may help on speed. You could probably turn around and sell this thing for some serious money especially seeing it has this racing style nose cone on it. Does the lower unit have a low water pickup just under the pointed cone? or is the water pickup on the sides?

Thanks for this vid Frisco. I was able to successfully build my pressure tester with the info you provided.

@deanoobaby No they are sealed. You want them to hold pressure .
nosecone with low waterpickup if the sides are welded tight or closed.
Super Deal! You did good!
wow Jay 500, up here in canada they sell used stern drives for over 2500$... very nice deal
yes canada is one big scam/ripoff ! everything that is new or used is like quadruple the price compared to the good old USA :)

HA! Cool Graphics! I like your MAC!
Silly of me to ask but, you are filling the gear oil form the bottom up aren't you?

If I saw spacers like that on the top cap screws I wouldn"t have given the guy fifty cents for it Whoever put them there is a major "hacker".
