I think Vorador is at hs best in Blood Omen: Legacy Of Kain. I see him as having a well muscled Basketball Player's body build, & about 6' 9" in height. Paul Lukather did an excellent job making Vorador seem Authoritative & Menacing. I'm also glad to see that a lot of TH-cam Content Creators are keeping this lore alive.
I am so happy that this series lives on in our hearts and content is still being made. It warms my heart. The LoK series is such an underrated gem and I need a renaissance of it fast. I hope we fans can somehow make our voices heard that there is, as of today, untapped potential they should absolutely go back to. I don't know enough about the behind-the-scenes of it's production, but I really hope they come back to it. Absolute amazing work on this and all the other videos. Super informative, it's in a digestible format and I can't get enough. I would also like to point out that this popped into my Home feed, so I know TH-cam at least isn't suppressing it. I always guessed that it was Old Kain who raised Vorador. I fantasize with multiples ways how (from being able to use his own soul to restore his head, as he used it to raise his own vampires, to being able to raise new guardians after being purified and getting aid by the new Death Guardian to do so). I imagine Kain telling him about many of the things that he has learnt, telling him of the immutability of history but passing on the hope he now has: basically, he would tell him that his younger more fullish self will eventually and inevitably kill him BUT that he is the Sion of balance and is now fully dedicated to assume his role and restore Nosgoth and also save Janos Audron, who is alive but trapped in the Hylden dimension (since Dark Prophecy was supposed to take Kain to the Hylden Dimension and encounter Janos there).
This is amazing. I really REALLY appreciate your commitment to TLOK and it’s lore. Obvious passion, like all of us that come back to the series constantly. Thank you.
@@RainaAudron Bit off topic, but not really :) If i were to point bit of lore, i`d love to know more about, and of which we get only bits and pieces in games- that would be Vampire- Human wars, that Kain started... I mean, the amount of possible stories of resistance, betrayal, political games and plain epic battles between Kain`s fledgeling Empire, and Human Kingdoms... Silenced Cathedral and Human Citadel would deserve story of its own, in my opinion...
I very much want another game that explores what Elder Kain did after the events of Defiance. If he was purified by Raziel's sacrifice, does that mean he could somehow save the pillars?
@@RainaAudron That would be the final game in the series then, Kain would probably destroy the Elder God at the end and fix time so he could prevent the blood curse of the vampires and thus all the events leading to the destruction of the pillars, saving Nosgoth.

I never noticed the flags of the populist vampire hunters was the same in Blood Omen and Soul Reaver 2. That's such great attention to detail. This was a great video! Thanks for all the hard work. I loved the outtakes too. This reminds me that Vorador is such an amazing character, deserving of his own games or novels. He's always been one of my favorite characters in the series. Just reading through other comments posted here, all of us have the same passion for this series, we love it and obsess over it on the same level, together we are a legion. On a separate note I also believe we have all filled in the gaps in the history ourselves, I know have and as much as we would all die to have another game I am satisfied remembering the content we did receive and I'm happy with the story in its entirety I have written in my mind.

It makes me sad to think how many of these legendary voices we have lost. Really makes me think how the voice over would be handled, we still have Templeman and Bell, but we have three of the other major players. To me Tony Jay is the most prevalent of them.
I love this series and thank you for the work you put into making this video. When I was eighteen I came down with pneumonia and was pretty much stuck at home for two weeks. My friend came over every day he was off of work with his PS1 and a copy of Blood Omen and played it while I just laid there. l was and still am grateful for him doing that for me. Being able to get lost in the world of Nosgoth helped me forget about how terrible I felt.

I like to think that Vorador taking on a caring, parental outlook was the result of encountering a being more Monstrous than even he - Kain, and had since lost his taste for inflicting suffering after seeing Kain's actions, particularly towards his Daughters. Remember, Kain wholesale slaughters his way through Vorador's mansion at one point... perhaps losing his Daughters could have eventually lead him to realize he actually cared about those he surrounds himself with.
I just came upon something: will you talk about other characters? Not only the main protagonists, but also others as well, dunno, e.g. Raziel's brethren? The way you explain is captivating, Raina! Please, upload more videos about Lok :D you put such great passion into this work :)

my 8 year old Red tail Boa is named Raziel, I remember staying up at night on my Ps2 (soul reaver 2) when I was a teen (i'm 34 now), getting super pissed at getting hit and having the borderline amount of health to shoot you into the spirit world, and then having to fight two of those lightning demon things. fuck me that took forever to do lol an amazing franchise thank you for doing this!!! Thank you so much for being loremaster to one of the most fantastic fantasy settings that has ever been made, with characters so well developed I can't even say out loud haha. To this day, I will, at random times, say "Janos Audron" for no reason at the most random times with nothing having prompting me to think about this franchise lol. Love it.
Really good stuff. The attention to detail and production value is top notch. Its wonderful the series at least its memory is being kept alive in some form. I think I share everyone's frustration that the series never really got to live up to its full potential. The story ended up being a complete mess due to development challenges leading to divergent timelines and other nonsense. But I'm still a big fan of the series and love anything related to it I can find. I'd love to see a deeper dive into the Elder God or a more detailed history of Nosgoth.

A) Zelda, as a series, predates LoK by almost a decade, so more people grew up with it. B) Zelda, provided you try to avoid putting everything in a timeline, is relatively less complicated than LoK. When it comes to comparisons like these, do keep in mind the concept of Lowest common denominator in marketing. The less complicated it is, the better chance it has in getting popular. C) It's a Nintendo property. If Nintendo wishes it, they will ensure an IP will be known.
Because zelda games keep releasing to keep it relevant. The last lok game we saw was in the ps2 era. Sony NEEDS to revive LoK, pun intended, and give its story the polish and continuity the original games were missing to tie up the time lines better in a more cohesive way. And with the modern sheen of graphics and 60 fps, LoK has the makings to be this gens horizon or 2018 gow or spiderman or bloodborne. Really hope they working on LoK for this gen. So much story, lore and awesome well developed characters. So much material both in games and left in the chopping block!!! They could all tie it up nicely with a revival of the series!

@@aeolussvichi7680 LoK was never a "Sony Exclusive" series. There was Blood Omen, but that game had a cancelled Saturn version, and SR2 was, PC aside, Sony exclusive. All the other games have been on non-Sony consoles. And the latest cancelled game was controlled by Squeenix and was going to be on the Xbox 360. Unless the IP changed hands and I don't know it, Squeenix is the one that "holds all the cards".
You do a great justice to the legacy of kain series. You should do a video of how exactly Janos and Vorador created vampires. Kain had a different method that was kind of explained in the soul reaver 1 manual but it was somewhat different to Janos's method as I think Kain could only turn corpses in vampires. I initially though Janos's way was very similar to maybe how it is mainly done in media with the replacing of human blood with vampire blood but I think there was probably more to it. Since Mortanius was possibly the first human guardian of death, I could speculate that Mortanius would have seen how it was done by Janos and the other ancients and thus did it with necromancy instead, along with Janos's heart. I think it involved the infusing of the soul or life essence of the vampire's with that of the humans along with the mixing of the blood.
2:51 - 2:31 ok that's the part that pisses me off, I seriously believe it was a mistake said by the dev's because, every time a paradox happens new time lines are created while old ones die off. it shows nothing in soul reaver era that blood omen 2 never happened. in my opinion, soul reaver 1 is the final timeline.

I could imagine Vorador's shift in behaviour in BO2 as he's reinvigorated to go to war against the humans, but prior experience has made him cautious. Now that the Cabal is reduced to a handful of guerilla fighters, he can't afford to wrecklessly throw away resources on large scale operations, so he'd want to take extra care for the others. They are all sired by him after all

In "Soul Reaver" there is a line- Raziel comments, that his brother Dumah was a great warrior in his life... Probably same thing, when it came to his time as human. I think he wore same colors, as Malek did... Who knows, maybe he was his direct disciple, chosen for his weapon mastery? Even his crazy vampire offspring do try to "arm" themselves... In that way, it would be quite possible, that he`d be depicted as the one, who put most fierce resistance against Raziel

08:00 - This young Kain didnt time travel man, he turned by Mortanius in that timeline, Vorador actually never met with Old time traveler Kain. I may be wrong at this point but i think when Raziel and Old Kain time traveled to past they changed Nosgoth's history, Blood Omen 2 happens in alternate timeline because in original timeline there was no Hylden Lord to face Kain's Vampire Army
I'm not sure I'm following this 100%. I think you might be conflating two different things here, but just to cover the bases: That particular section is going through the events of Blood Omen 1 from the perspective of Vorador (or Nosgoth in general) and refers specifically to the young Kain meeting Vorador in that game: Kain has met Vorador, been advised against interfering in human affairs, has gone back in time and then fought William the Just. All of that is the first timeline we see in the series. As recounted later Kain's killing of William changes history and creates a second (observed) timeline where instead of the Nemesis we get the rise of Moebius's hunters (and a slightly more cynical Vorador). But the events surrounding the time travel don't change in the second timeline or going forward - Kain still meets Vorador, still is advised against interference and still goes back, just this time he'd always killed William. One of the principal rules of time travel in LoK is the rule of least resistance: history will maintain the same events where possible and only allow the least possible changes, so when presented with a change the default is that everything is the same except where explicitly stated. Add to this the explicit mentions of Vorador's warning and Kain's time travel in later sources such as manuals and the like and developer comments that the events of the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver eras didn't change for the later time travel shenanigans - virtually confirmation that everything we've seen in the series occured right into the most recent timelines. The change of Blood Omen 2's events (or rather the end of SR2 ) is a totally different timeline shift - in that specific case it's from the third timeline (that the audience has observed) to the fourth - and yes that one does cause some big waves and changes through history but those don't change the course of the earlier games (only add new events in the background) and most of the fallout is concentrated in the Post-Blood Omen era where we get the rise of HL after he is able to leave the Demon Realm etc.
Hi Everyone not sure if you have heard. Dennis Dyack has founded a new studio in 2018 maybe earlier. HE and his team are making a Spiritual Successor to This series called DeadHaus Sonata.
I like to think that Blood Omen 2 Vorador survived and just reverted back to being jaded but only even more so this time, he went back to his hut in the swamp and went full on Shrek and never looked back.
Probably Umah would had resurrected him, since she was suppsoed to appear in Defiance as Human, leading to her becoming a Vampire herself as seen in Blood Omen 2. Edit: Nvm, you talked about it later in the video. One thing tho i never got about the series is how the time changing only seems to affect certain aspects, how did Vorador still kill Malak as example if time changed and he probalby not got time for it while also running from Moebius Army. Or how come that circle still got murdered at all and people stil lgto born as guardians of the pillars normally. William dying young i imagine would had changed certain outcomes sitll.
There is a line in games, that explains, that time stream tries to "adjust" itself to be similar, as much as possible, to the one, that was distorted/destroyed... So most events, unless meddled with directly, still remain as they were
I played today blood omen ps one version and the blood omen cutscene footage on this video looks very polished and very good on hd! 😍 Is this the pc version or is the footage edited in some way? My ps one footage looks very blurry in comparison.
What puzzles me is even before the unfortunately loss of two of the amazing cast, CD never put solid effort into continuing this series. Even with Amy Hennig's departure, they could have perhaps consulted with her, or just studied the lore and story and worked it out. Even doing remakes with the original recordings would very likely fund a continuation. I've never understood their seeming lack of desire to revive this series, even to remaster or remake, despite fans begging for it almost constantly.
One of the problems is that our fanbase is nowhere near as big as Tomb Raider, for example, even a few million copies sold were a disappointment to SE. Modern day remake would require a significant investment but if they can't be sure to get it back via sales, it might not be feasible to them as much as it pains for us to hear.

The sad part is right now, with the tech and how much gaming has grown, if they did it right and put marketing behind it, the series could take on new life beyond its original potential. The landscape is so different now. But oh well.
A question I've always wanted answered was The Elder God's feelings on the Hylden. Given what Mobius said at the end of Defiance about them being an inconvenience I'm led to believe that the Elder God is opposed to them. So are they immortal and not a part of the wheel or does he oppose them for a different reason? Considering they're opposed to the Vampires then you'd think the Elder God would want the Pillars to fall and I'm sure Raziel comes to this conclusion in Soul Reaver 2 at some point. Commenting that it appears as if the EG is trying to pull them down himself. Do they oppose him too?
Yeah. The Hylden and the Elder God are opposed forces, with no love loss between them. However their goals do align on some things, like the fall of the pillars and the Raziel's fate.
I just think that Vorador did some trick and faked his death. As the vampire species return, its a matter of time before the Sarafan finds out who sired them. I don't know why can't Kain sire vampire at this time though.
The wings were a sign of the messiah and also the vampiric evolution is different for those turned by transfusion (it´s not clear how the transformation takes place) than the ones turned by necromancy.
I never understood the meaning behind the image of Dumah in Soul Reaver 2. Why was it, that this depiction specifically came alongside with his future Vampire-self?

Yes, Daniel Cabuco said he wanted to go in that direction, but no game has explored that scenario so far.

Really good stuff. The attention to detail and production value is top notch. Its wonderful the series at least its memory is being kept alive in some form. I think I share everyone's frustration that the series never really got to live up to its full potential. The story ended up being a complete mess due to development challenges leading to divergent timelines and other nonsense. But I'm still a big fan of the series and love anything related to it I can find. I'd love to see a deeper dive into the Elder God or a more detailed history of Nosgoth.

It's really crazy how LoK has been forgotten while zelda remains a relevant name
A) Zelda, as a series, predates LoK by almost a decade, so more people grew up with it.
B) Zelda, provided you try to avoid putting everything in a timeline, is relatively less complicated than LoK. When it comes to comparisons like these, do keep in mind the concept of Lowest common denominator in marketing. The less complicated it is, the better chance it has in getting popular.
C) It's a Nintendo property. If Nintendo wishes it, they will ensure an IP will be known.
Because zelda games keep releasing to keep it relevant.
The last lok game we saw was in the ps2 era.
Sony NEEDS to revive LoK, pun intended, and give its story the polish and continuity the original games were missing to tie up the time lines better in a more cohesive way. And with the modern sheen of graphics and 60 fps, LoK has the makings to be this gens horizon or 2018 gow or spiderman or bloodborne.
Really hope they working on LoK for this gen. So much story, lore and awesome well developed characters. So much material both in games and left in the chopping block!!! They could all tie it up nicely with a revival of the series!

@@aeolussvichi7680 LoK was never a "Sony Exclusive" series. There was Blood Omen, but that game had a cancelled Saturn version, and SR2 was, PC aside, Sony exclusive. All the other games have been on non-Sony consoles. And the latest cancelled game was controlled by Squeenix and was going to be on the Xbox 360.
Unless the IP changed hands and I don't know it, Squeenix is the one that "holds all the cards".

You do a great justice to the legacy of kain series. You should do a video of how exactly Janos and Vorador created vampires. Kain had a different method that was kind of explained in the soul reaver 1 manual but it was somewhat different to Janos's method as I think Kain could only turn corpses in vampires. I initially though Janos's way was very similar to maybe how it is mainly done in media with the replacing of human blood with vampire blood but I think there was probably more to it. Since Mortanius was possibly the first human guardian of death, I could speculate that Mortanius would have seen how it was done by Janos and the other ancients and thus did it with necromancy instead, along with Janos's heart. I think it involved the infusing of the soul or life essence of the vampire's with that of the humans along with the mixing of the blood.

I seriously believe it was a mistake said by the dev's because, every time a paradox happens new time lines are created while old ones die off.
it shows nothing in soul reaver era that blood omen 2 never happened. in my opinion, soul reaver 1 is the final timeline.

I could imagine Vorador's shift in behaviour in BO2 as he's reinvigorated to go to war against the humans, but prior experience has made him cautious. Now that the Cabal is reduced to a handful of guerilla fighters, he can't afford to wrecklessly throw away resources on large scale operations, so he'd want to take extra care for the others. They are all sired by him after all

In "Soul Reaver" there is a line- Raziel comments, that his brother Dumah was a great warrior in his life... Probably same thing, when it came to his time as human. I think he wore same colors, as Malek did... Who knows, maybe he was his direct disciple, chosen for his weapon mastery? Even his crazy vampire offspring do try to "arm" themselves...
In that way, it would be quite possible, that he`d be depicted as the one, who put most fierce resistance against Raziel

08:00 - This young Kain didnt time travel man, he turned by Mortanius in that timeline, Vorador actually never met with Old time traveler Kain. I may be wrong at this point but i think when Raziel and Old Kain time traveled to past they changed Nosgoth's history, Blood Omen 2 happens in alternate timeline because in original timeline there was no Hylden Lord to face Kain's Vampire Army
I'm not sure I'm following this 100%. I think you might be conflating two different things here, but just to cover the bases:
That particular section is going through the events of Blood Omen 1 from the perspective of Vorador (or Nosgoth in general) and refers specifically to the young Kain meeting Vorador in that game: Kain has met Vorador, been advised against interfering in human affairs, has gone back in time and then fought William the Just. All of that is the first timeline we see in the series.
As recounted later Kain's killing of William changes history and creates a second (observed) timeline where instead of the Nemesis we get the rise of Moebius's hunters (and a slightly more cynical Vorador). But the events surrounding the time travel don't change in the second timeline or going forward - Kain still meets Vorador, still is advised against interference and still goes back, just this time he'd always killed William.
One of the principal rules of time travel in LoK is the rule of least resistance: history will maintain the same events where possible and only allow the least possible changes, so when presented with a change the default is that everything is the same except where explicitly stated. Add to this the explicit mentions of Vorador's warning and Kain's time travel in later sources such as manuals and the like and developer comments that the events of the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver eras didn't change for the later time travel shenanigans - virtually confirmation that everything we've seen in the series occured right into the most recent timelines.
The change of Blood Omen 2's events (or rather the end of SR2 ) is a totally different timeline shift - in that specific case it's from the third timeline (that the audience has observed) to the fourth - and yes that one does cause some big waves and changes through history but those don't change the course of the earlier games (only add new events in the background) and most of the fallout is concentrated in the Post-Blood Omen era where we get the rise of HL after he is able to leave the Demon Realm etc.

HE and his team are making a Spiritual Successor to This series called DeadHaus Sonata.
I like to think that Blood Omen 2 Vorador survived and just reverted back to being jaded but only even more so this time, he went back to his hut in the swamp and went full on Shrek and never looked back.
Probably Umah would had resurrected him, since she was suppsoed to appear in Defiance as Human, leading to her becoming a Vampire herself as seen in Blood Omen 2.

One thing tho i never got about the series is how the time changing only seems to affect certain aspects, how did Vorador still kill Malak as example if time changed and he probalby not got time for it while also running from Moebius Army. Or how come that circle still got murdered at all and people stil lgto born as guardians of the pillars normally. William dying young i imagine would had changed certain outcomes sitll.
There is a line in games, that explains, that time stream tries to "adjust" itself to be similar, as much as possible, to the one, that was distorted/destroyed... So most events, unless meddled with directly, still remain as they were

That is Raziel depicted behind him. The artists of the era intentionally demonized their enemies.

What puzzles me is even before the unfortunately loss of two of the amazing cast, CD never put solid effort into continuing this series. Even with Amy Hennig's departure, they could have perhaps consulted with her, or just studied the lore and story and worked it out. Even doing remakes with the original recordings would very likely fund a continuation. I've never understood their seeming lack of desire to revive this series, even to remaster or remake, despite fans begging for it almost constantly.
One of the problems is that our fanbase is nowhere near as big as Tomb Raider, for example, even a few million copies sold were a disappointment to SE. Modern day remake would require a significant investment but if they can't be sure to get it back via sales, it might not be feasible to them as much as it pains for us to hear.

The sad part is right now, with the tech and how much gaming has grown, if they did it right and put marketing behind it, the series could take on new life beyond its original potential. The landscape is so different now. But oh well.
A question I've always wanted answered was The Elder God's feelings on the Hylden. Given what Mobius said at the end of Defiance about them being an inconvenience I'm led to believe that the Elder God is opposed to them. So are they immortal and not a part of the wheel or does he oppose them for a different reason? Considering they're opposed to the Vampires then you'd think the Elder God would want the Pillars to fall and I'm sure Raziel comes to this conclusion in Soul Reaver 2 at some point. Commenting that it appears as if the EG is trying to pull them down himself. Do they oppose him too?
Yeah. The Hylden and the Elder God are opposed forces, with no love loss between them. However their goals do align on some things, like the fall of the pillars and the Raziel's fate.

The wings were a sign of the messiah and also the vampiric evolution is different for those turned by transfusion (it´s not clear how the transformation takes place) than the ones turned by necromancy.

The demon behind Dumah is actually Raziel (made to look monstrous, just like Janos).
