This is a different format where I introduce someone else to John Farnham, but it was really fun to spread the influence of John Farnham to others :)
You must have worked on a different night (or the memory is a little foggy considering it was 35 years ago) as it wasn't the final encore in this performance. There was another encore after Help where he sang Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top as the final encore.
John can sing anything and has. From ballads to rock, blues, soul, metal, opera, jazz, etc. He is a comedian and all-round nice guy who supported and respected his musicians and backup singers, and they loved him, as did Australia. Unfortunately, we may never hear him sing again as he had mouth cancer and had part of his jaw removed. He is now cancer free though. He was still performing at 70 and his voice hardly diminished over 5 decades of singing. He has the unique distinction of having a number one hit in 5 consecutive decades. Always listen to John live if you can. He always gives 110% in live performances.
John was also known as 'Whispering Jack', a nickname that he picked up from studio technicians because he would tend to blow out the microphones in the studio unless he reduced his voice to almost a whisper or they literally draped cloth over the microphone to muffle them...
Enjoyed your analysis on this performance. One of 3 encores that night...nearly a 3 hour show.....more from this concert will have all us Aussies signing in to watch...lol
Not only a superb singer but also the ultimate showman. John and I are the same age .... I attended his later concerts and always felt part of a party with him being another attendee .... he makes you feel included and a part of the show. A REAL skill , on top the THE VOICE !
John Farnham aka 'The Voice'.... known and acknowledged as that by artists like Celine Dion, Tom Jones etc...... to have an audience of thousands, perfectly singing your song... Farnsey is a legend who will be known for ever more.... told the money hungry, international managers to fuck off.... he never sold his soul for money or fame....
So good to see new fans introducing Farnsey to their friends. That was fun to watch. IMO, the three iconic songs from the encores of this concert showcase everything that is so awesome about "our John": this one, You're the Voice, and especially Long Way to the Top. Each is very different, and yet each has John's special imprint. The controlled power of his voice, the genuine love between singer and audience, and his rare talent of being able to make any genre his own make him a very special artist.
Sincere and insightful. Some good kids coming through. As an Aussie a little younger than John Farnham, he was like background music growing up, and his talent was largely unappreciated by many until recently.
In Australia if one wanted to refer to John Farnham in a conversation he would just be "Farnsy", and even after only hearing him sing once who wouldn't be a fan of John Farnham. So fans of Farnsy do not need a special name, they are just fans of a true Aussie GOAT.
Having experienced the music from the sixties till now, the feeling we experienced from live music is missing in today's music. There is no soul. You need to feel it in your gut to really enjoy music. I lived through a fantastic era. Aussie music was something special. Largely missed by the world. I was at this concert. It has stayed with me, but it was not unique. I have seen many memorable concerts.
Great reaction. If you liked “help” check out Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham’s song “when something is wrong with my baby” live on hey hey it’s Saturday. Full of soul.
I grew up in the 80 and music was ne thing that drive us with feeling and emotion and vibes. We had no mobiles but always look forward to live performances which were every where in pubs, clubs and large venues.
This was about 2 hours in to this 2 1/2 hour concert just before a false encore. Probably one of the most powerful male voices ever. John Lennon said that Help was meant to be a slow ballad and it really gives the lyrics the weight that they deserve.
If you love the sound of live instruments and a great stage performance the definitely check out the song from this concert - it’s a long way to the top (AC/DC cover) You will have a smile from ear to ear the whole time 😊
Just to clarify, he did use that song as a sound check on occasion. However on the occasion where it was recorded Doug Brady brought along his new mobile recording studio and brand new state of the art equipment and the song was recorded on set, edited on set by Doug Brady and Ross Fraser and copyrighted to Sony records. Doug Brady is one of Australia’s best sound engineers and producers. The recording was planned and that’s why it is clearly of the highest calibre.
John Lennon reportedly said this is the way he intended the song to be sung.... The song was released in Australia before John passed, hence why the audience sings along... I know you have reviewed a few of John's songs, but please play Nate Your the Voice from the same concert.
Hi Guys. Some other great songs from the Legendary John Farnham are. YOU'RE THE VOICE. And WHEN THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY BABY, with Jimmy Barns. Another great Australian Legendary singer. Very much worth a listen to.
Farnsey Fans, or The Farnsey Army, Thank you Andrea for introducing Nate to our John, I hope you both continue down the rabbit hole, so many great songs spanning a career of over 6 decades. and yes, real instruments and live performances for me, though when John was making 'Whispering Jack' money was tight and they used a 'fairlight' for the various instruments and even used the slam of a car door for a drum sound, Merry Christmas.
th-cam.com/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PGH4zTRvFvua6ZMQ check this out. This was John doing a warm up/mike check. Most other singers would consider it a performance of a lifetime. John was just like “yeah, good warm up guys”. He never performed this live (once maybe). We were just lucky the sound recordist decided to hit the record button during this one.
My suggestion next would be a ACDC cover from the same concert It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll, it will showcase a different style from him, polar opposite to Help
If you want some more soul from John, I would recommend you react to Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham singing their version of a 1966 Sam and Dave song "When Something is Wrong With My Baby; make sure it is a live performance, I would suggest their performance from the 1991 Australian Recording Industry Association(ARIA) Awards.
check out guy sebastian he is also Australian and he won our first Australian Idol now he is one of Australia's best singer/male artist u need to check him out 👌🙏
If you want to see some of the versatility in Johns voice listen to this recording (video not the best but audio is good) when he fronted Little River Band, singing Reminiscing. th-cam.com/video/iYgh_Irk46M/w-d-xo.html ... or, if you really want to blow your mind, this one of him in 1972 live on stage. Here he is at 23, he had been performing for eight years and he had the audience in the palm of his hand the whole time. And he loved it. By the time he'd finished singing the Beatles "Yesterday", he could have done with them what he pleased. th-cam.com/video/B9Bn8bvpa34/w-d-xo.html
Now a days with AI and auto tune people can change their voices the old days no auto tune it was just singing with great voices he has many many more song over 60 years
I went to a Cold Chisel concert (50th year anniversary) with my millennial daughter :) They were well drilled and polished (after all this time) and even she was impressed. You may like to check our a blues number with John Farnham and Jimmy Barnes. Impressive :):) th-cam.com/video/dvPw8EVY3rc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B2zcpYWHGBgLEXMS
At first merry Christmas. In general i would almost prefer real instruments. Computer or even Synthesizer can probably add good content to it. So I like collaboration like this, where classic musicians play with rock or pop or any other kind of musicians from other musicstyles. Instruments add more to a song, more depth, more sound. Judt my opinion😉
Farnham has a great voice but Thanks to John Lennon and The Beatles for the original . Lennon did want the song slower so he would have loved this one ..The original is a great song . computers take away the human feeling in the music or song. .
Andrea, what's up? 0:01 Take care of yourself... Love yourself. DrBoz or DrAnthonyChaffee can tell you how. It's fairly simple... You look drugged and like that girl from the Carpenters 🥺

Welcome Nate to the channel!! This is a different format where I introduce someone else to John Farnham, but it was really fun to spread the influence of John Farnham to others :)
Is Nate going to do another John Farnham (Farnsey) reaction with you? Maybe introduce him to Jimmy Barnes (Barnsey) something wrong with my baby? 😂😂
I worked at that concert late 1989, and this number was John's final encore after singing for 2 hours...he would've been so tired. ❤
You must have worked on a different night (or the memory is a little foggy considering it was 35 years ago) as it wasn't the final encore in this performance. There was another encore after Help where he sang Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top as the final encore.
@@devilsadvocate2548 Yes. I heard he mixed up the encore songs each night. I suppose the DVD is the "official" playlist for most people.
John can sing anything and has. From ballads to rock, blues, soul, metal, opera, jazz, etc. He is a comedian and all-round nice guy who supported and respected his musicians and backup singers, and they loved him, as did Australia. Every song that’s ever made should be made by a musical instrument
The noise that instrument makes is up to you
LOL we are considered Farnsey Fans. Nate bring a cut lunch and a drink John has decades of his music on TH-cam to discover.
John was also known as 'Whispering Jack', a nickname that he picked up from studio technicians because he would tend to blow out the microphones in the studio unless he reduced his voice to almost a whisper or they literally draped cloth over the microphone to muffle them...

It was closer to 2 hours singing than 3 hours.
Probably the best cover of the original Beatles song.
Not only a superb singer but also the ultimate showman. John and I are the same age .... I attended his later concerts and always felt part of a party with him being another attendee ....
he makes you feel included and a part of the show. A REAL skill , on top the THE VOICE !

Two words- John Farnham ❤
Live instrumental all the way. There's nothing like seeing a live band, the skill & the emotions on display & even better with an orchestra.
Sincere and insightful. Some good kids coming through. As an Aussie a little younger than John Farnham, he was like background music growing up, and his talent was largely unappreciated by many until recently.
Thanks for sharing Johnny with other people, hes one of Australias most loved performers.
Our John THE G.O.A.T. He can sing any genre. Thanks Andrea for introducing John to Nate - Farnsey Family ❤️ ❤️
In Australia if one wanted to refer to John Farnham in a conversation he would just be "Farnsy", and even after only hearing him sing once who wouldn't be a fan of John Farnham. So fans of Farnsy do not need a special name, they are just fans of a true Aussie GOAT.

Note how John hits big a note immediately. Doesn't have to work up to it, just BANG, he's there.
The Sax player is part of John's Band, all the orchestra were wearing white jackets. John equals 'The GOAT'
Great reaction. If you liked “help” check out Jimmy Barnes and John Farnham’s song “when something is wrong with my baby” live on hey hey it’s Saturday. Full of soul.

This was the first encore song of three. All three are considered encore, no false encores 👍
If you love the sound of live instruments and a great stage performance the definitely check out the song from this concert - it’s a long way to the top (AC/DC cover) You will have a smile from ear to ear the whole time 😊
Check out John's version of "Black Dog" which is only audio as a Sound Tech recorded his version which he only used as a warmup pre-concert.
His voice has so many textures and colours
Farnsey could sing the phone book and he would still go platinum 👏👏👏
The other significant song of his was from this same concert was “You’re the Voice”. It has bagpipes!
If you like the Mike stand antics you have to watch Your The Voice from the same concert.

You can officially call yourself part of the Farnsey Army now.
Yesssssssssssssssßssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just totally awesome💖💖💖
I am from Sydney and have met John over the years, first in 1978.
Wonderful totally real human x
Farnsey Fans, or The Farnsey Army, Thank you Andrea for introducing Nate to our John, I hope you both continue down the rabbit hole, so many great songs spanning a career of over 6 decades. and yes, real instruments and live performances for me, though when John was making 'Whispering Jack' money was tight and they used a 'fairlight' for the various instruments and even used the slam of a car door for a drum sound, Merry Christmas.
We call him Farnsey, see him with Barnsey, jimmy Barnes doing when something is wrong with my Baby.
Farnhamians... I like it!😃
You really need to watch John Sing "When the war is over" (live whispering Jack) - this song is an APEX song that will blow your mind.
th-cam.com/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=PGH4zTRvFvua6ZMQ check this out. This was John doing a warm up/mike check. Most other singers would consider it a performance of a lifetime. It was his sound check on that night.

Jimmy barnes
Trust me you wont look back
Great job Andrea. Hi Nate. You're going to have a new play list of songs soon. How about, "The Farnsey".
This is John's rock ballad version of The Beatles classic song.
My suggestion next would be a ACDC cover from the same concert It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock and Roll, it will showcase a different style from him, polar opposite to Help
John usually features one of his musicians, or back up singers.
Fans are the farnsey army.
Thanks Guys . Great reaction 😊
If you want a great one to watch John Farnham and jimmy barns when something wrong with my baby if you like the blues
That or the one from Hey Hey.
check out guy sebastian he is also Australian and he won our first Australian Idol now he is one of Australia's best singer/male artist u need to check him out 👌🙏
Guys, you wanna see real instruments. Try 'Lazy' by Deep Purple. Because of cost, they recorded this in one, single take.
Great choice! A stand-out track on an all-around incredible album.
The Jimmy Barnes / Joe Bonamassa cover is also stellar.
It would be interesting to see Nate's reaction to Kasey Chambers version of Eminem's Lose Yourself.
OH YES!!!!!
To appreciate his version you should watch the original Beatles version
Loved that. Nate is a cool guy. Maybe you can do a video each week together?
His first hit in the 60s was Sadie. Do a reaction.
there was recently tv special on celebrating the career of John Farnham here is a link to part one th-cam.com/video/m-Cqqk-B5bM/w-d-xo.html
if you like the audience reaction to this song i would recommend a listen to Robbie Williams singing 'Angel' live at Knebworth
If you want to see some of the versatility in Johns voice listen to this recording (video not the best but audio is good) when he fronted Little River Band, singing Reminiscing.
th-cam.com/video/iYgh_Irk46M/w-d-xo.html
... or, if you really want to blow your mind, this one of him in 1972 live on stage. wait until you figure out the song was written by the Beatles

you should stop it more; its great for the flow.
👍 Real singers need real instruments.
I myself just recently discovered his version of Reminiscing th-cam.com/video/NspIOkh9EVc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=H9ZmClJ5hDkr6po7 Totally blown away!!
If you want a modern Australian voice sample Matt Corby. Live Better Than That
Maybe review the song and let us see what you have to say before all the shameless self promotion?
Farnham has a great voice but Thanks to John Lennon and The Beatles for the original . Lennon did want the song slower so he would have loved this one ..The original is a great song . computers take away the human feeling in the music or song. .
No offense but this is so more intertaining than rap.
Andrea, what's up? 0:01
Take care of yourself...
Love yourself.
DrBoz or DrAnthonyChaffee can tell you how. It's fairly simple...
You look drugged and like that girl from the Carpenters 🥺
