I had my first set of Prismacolor when I was 7yo 70 years ago a box of 36 and I still use them. I went through a few sets and individual ones, at times they are cheaper by the 150 boxes than by individuals. I used to draw and paint, oil, acrylic, and watercolor but always came back to my pencils. I went into decorative painting when it was the thing, I used to cut my own wood and had some quite pretty pieces.
Years ago I was diagnosed with chronic pain, art save my life and my sanity, that was the best pain medication, I could get lost in it. Then my inspiration to draw and paint was going. One day I discovered coloring books, I tried, the first one was Johanna Basford, and, I was hooked, drugged......
I find the same relief from the pain when I lose myself in coloring.
I wish that some books (Amazon paper) merit a better paper because they are beautiful At times I scan and print a page that I want to be better. I am doing this for me just for me. I was painting by commission or gifts it was taking too much of my energy that I did not have anymore, now coloring is . With TH-cam, I learn how to better colore
Thank you, Alena, you are my inspiration to keep going, I keep you in my thoughts stay safe.

Thank you so much! I'm glad that I decided to film these videos. With my slightly lost coloring mojo I decided that to look at all my pencils, pens, paints etc can inspire me to color more and to use materials which I abandoned.

Oooo I love hearing your thoughts and feelings.. i agree that ultimately cant beat Prismacolor! I too do not want to do soo many layers. I like to color and cover fairly quickly. Not tons of laters and blending. And the grays are sooo good in the prisma set!!

I also really love Prismacolors. I have grown to love Polychromos as well, but it was a learning curve for me because they require layering. I do have have the Soucolors, and I do really like them. I think you would like the Brutfuner Squares as well if you get a chance to try them. I enjoyed hearing your journey through your precious pencils. Thanks for sharing.❤ I pray you are safe, and I’m glad you are back in your home. Take care.

I've also been fortunate with the quality of my Prismas. Some of the leads are off center, but they've never broken. I ordered my 150 set almost 2 years ago through your Amazon Shop link and like to believe your good luck rubbed off on my pencils, lol. I love my Prismas.

I held off on the Brutfuner Square pencils, like you, because I prefer pencils with names. However, I recently caved in and purchased them. I absolutely love them, they have some beautiful colors not in other sets. My usual go-to pencils are Prismacolors, Polychromos, Ateza and Black Widows. I also love any and all Derwent pencils that I have. Keep coloring! 🦋

I love the squares too! Use them equal to my Prismas, Polys and Pablos. Then I bought the Brutfuner Macarons, and I like them too, even if they feel different than the squares. Now I have enough lighter and softer colors, and I hope I stay satisfied with what I have 🙈😉

I'm not sure yet how I feel about my Black Widow. They have some nice shades, but sometimes pencils from the box with Scorpio feel scratchy and pencils from Monarch set - too waxy, especially for smooth paper

I laughed out loud when I saw your Polychromos case, I have my set in the same exact case, same color too. I bought the Soucolors this year and really enjoy them, nice price too! I won’t admit how many different brands of colored pencils I have because I will sound like an addict, but let’s just say I did some *pandemic shopping* starting in 2020. I do love the square Brutfuners, lovely pencils, good price, but yes, no names, only characters in an Asian language. I think my favorite find was the Derwent drawing pencils, just 24 colors, but wow, unique earthy tones and muted colors, very creamy and soft. Thanks for this, stay cool in this summer heat and color on!!!

I remember my first set of Prismacolors. They were the scholars set and the pigment wasn’t very good. I kept pressing so hard and hurt my hand. Lol
Then I discovered watercolors and fell in love with Caran dAche and found your channel. 🥰

It’s suddenly turned hot here too. I felt light headed earlier and I think that was the heat. I lad down in the cool bedroom for a while and recovered. I still need to go over to my warehouse to pack customer orders sadly. So will do that now.
You are the Prismacolor Queen. They suit you really well. But I bet it’s hard to use them now in the heat. I’m a Polychomos fan, and the Brutfuner Square pencils are very similar, but I like names too. I keep thinking I could put paper labels on them. But I haven’t done it yet.

I still don't understand why when we have to spend summer in the city (like now or during previous Covid years) summer is always extremely hot and dry, but when it was possible to travel and to enjoy vacations, weather was rainy and cold.. I think that it's kind of nature revenge, LOL. I look forward for cool days when you're not melting immediately.

@@ColoringwithAlena I think that is always the case Alena. Stuck at home = roasting hot summers. Down on the beach with bathing suit = strong wind, rain and cold. We used to camp when I was a child. We could be roasting at home before and after our 2 weeks holiday and yet wet and cold for much of the holiday. Sitting in the car so that we had enough light to read (our old dark green tent didn't have windows).

The Brutfuner square pencils are actually my favorite pencils at the moment..I just got the Prismacolors and I still reach for the square pencils...I have to get use to them I guess so far just using them for color alongs and to make my colors pop a little more..So far I haven't really seen many people use the translated names just the numbers. I love hearing your color pencil journey..I just started coloring..your favorite set are Prismas..and for now mine are Brutfuner Square.. if you do a review on them I really hope you like them.. I will definitely be watching that video.

Thanks so much for doing this video. I also swear by doing swatches. Always, for all Art mediums. I have various sharpeners. The Tgaal is adjustable, must be discarded when blade dulls. I also use a round gold M&R sharpener, and a little German Kum. Both these I have replacement blades. Then the Dahle 133 desk sharpener (with rubber grips). My first lasted 5 years.

Thanks a lot, Alena, nice to see you home! It was interesting to reflect on pencils with you and fine where we match, and where we have some different preferences.
Speaking of Brutfuner: when you were admiring pastel colours from Prismas, I immediately remembered the now famous Macaron set from Brutfuner, and hearing you last words on the video I think this could be the best choice for you: you could both try the Brutfuner brand (I heard that Kalour and Arteza are different from them, btw), and you would get a nice set of pastel couloirs to save your Prismas (the Maracons are a replica of Holbeins, and some colourists even love them more because they’re softer and layer differently). I’ve heard that in the middle of July Ali will have a sale period, so you could buy them for a nice price and try ;-).
All the best to you and happy colouring.

Hi Alena, I enjoyed your video ans looking at your wonderfully coloured pictures. Pleae advise which pencil brand would be suitable for pictures that have been printed on normal printer paper?
