I had a young couple that I call the McStompers living upstairs. Sounds like a herd of elephants. The cure for me was jazz and they hated it. I would crank the TV and jack the bass. It was a war and when I eventually gave my 30 days to vacate, I made their lives a living hell. I would blast the stereo and leave for the weekend. The landlord wasn't terribly happy but that's what get for no doing anything.
I have long since moved out of this apartment and I am happy that I did. It saddens me that I had to resort to doing something so desperate as to move in order to have peace of mind. I pleaded with him time and time again nicely and kindly and all it did was enrage him at my annoying pleas. I talked to my apt. manager over and over and over again until I got to the point where I just had to call the police at least 2x a week. I would recommend that, especially being a single female.
awesome :) I did speak with my neighbor and I was very very polite. its just that after the 3-4th time you kind of get a little frustrated. I remained friendly but at that point I had to call the police. Any subsequent times that I went up to talk to him he was really miffed at me so I decided I wasnt going to talk to him anymore. I spoke to the apt manager numerous times(too many to count) but I just believe that he really hasnt spoken with him yet :(
Been in your shoes before dude. I hate to tell ya that the only thing you can do to solve a bad neighbor problem short of killing them is MOVE. I know, it sucks and it's not fair to you but I've been in this situation more than once and I tried EVERYTHING to get the noise to stop. The apartment management didn't care so they did nothing. The cops would come when I called them but they did NOTHING. I was being slowly being driven insane by the noise so I had to move to save my sanity!
Thanks for the suggestion.I read a lot of stuff about annoying neighbors and I read about white noise makers/fans/ear plugs.I would hope that If I wore ear plugs that I would hear my alarm clock in the morning :( Its just really sad that you as the innocent party has to be the one to buy all this extra stuff, earplugs, fans, insulation, rugs or even MOVE when It isnt you that is at fault. Some people just dont know what it really means to live in an apartment. *sighs*
@Noodles37UK Im soooo glad that Im not there anymore hun.Its so true here too.I believe that the soundproofing isnt up to certain building codes now(I m really not familiar with codes).Makes people want to not get APT's anymore because you never know*WHO*youre going to get as a neighbor; like this bloke. When my finances allow Im going to consider house renting because you just dont know when It comes to people in APT's.I would purposely be quiet, considerate everytime I spoke to him,but enough!
That song was "Candy Shop" by 50 cent. My neighbor gets home between 1:30 and 2:46 a.m. He STOMPS LIKE BIG FOOT ON FIRE!!! I've told him and he stopped stomping. 3 weeks ago, he started again. He got angry and said he just got some "bad news". I LITERALLY began going insane. I hallucinated raping and murdering his small family members and breaking his knee-caps. I also SLEEP WALK because of him. He'd drop something at 2:54 a.m. and I'd run, in my sleep, into my computer desk in the dark.
My upstairs neighbors are THE WORStT! I knew they'd be awful from Day One-they moved in at 2 am... They also have rambunctious school aged kids and an energetic puppy. They are loud all hours of the day and throughout the night. I don't know what their names are, but I call them The Leadfoot Family. They constantly run back and forth like an angry stampede of a herd of elephants wearing steel toed boots and then allow their dog to roll around in roller skates across the hardwood and ceramic tile floors... They are constantly dropping heavy objects too, without a care in the world. They need to go.
Problem with these new builds ( in Britain for example ) is the fact they were all built during a cost- cutting greed- mongering housing boom that fell on its face. No one's moving in as fast as 2004 for example. Sound proofing isn't up to 1950s standards and any old trash can move in next to you. The country's a mess and arseholes like this know they can get away with it. Having problems at the moment and I went thru HELL in high rise down market flats in the past, too. Totally sympathise.
@GodOffal Thanks for the advice hun.Unfortunately I had to choose the later and move out.Its unfortunate that you and I are the innocent parties at this time but the only thing that I did the last month I was at my apt was call the police,EVERY night. I wanted the cops to get annoyed with these guys.I wasnt the only one that was annoyed /called the cops on those douches. Why are some people BLIND to the fact that APT.living means that there are people above, below, next, etc.to you?*sighs*
I totally totally totally understand! It's like, how do you even keep stomping for all those hours? This space isn't even long enough to fit all of those incredibly loud stomps that shake my whole apartment. Constant Stomping and Dropping heavy things at all different hours. What ended up happening? This was a long time ago...?
Hey, I'm going through similar crap in my apt. Upstairs asses stomp & let their yardapes do riverdance every night. (day times worse they babysit). Its hard to concentrate with gritted teeth... I just wanted to say..earplugs arent very safe in respect to hearing either your car alarm or smoke alarms, for the worst reasons....or if an intruder should(god forbid) break in while you sleep. Just had to point out the obvious..besides not hearing your alarm clock. STAY SAFE.
Thats what I did eventually. I just Called the police 2 -3 times a week. Im sure the cops got annoyed until they really had to talk to that guy. Funny thing , is that there is an apartment building across the alley thats like a house/duplex. The lady who lives there complains about him too!! Id go out on my balcony and she and I would talk about how annoying he is too. He even cursed her out calling her some derogatory homophobic things to her too :( Im glad im gone from there unfortunately.
i have the same problem and the stupid manager wont do anything about it i mean every night loud music and stomping as i type in this comment i can clearly hear every beat of the song theyre playing through my headphones
Im so sorry you had to go thru that annoying barking. Even as *much* as I love dogs, there comes a point where it becomes harmful to your mental well being.
@JustBeatItNow ieasy for you to say you probably don;t have to experience it. Ever heard of the Japanese water torture, try picture going to sleep and having a constant thumping noise at all hours of the night as they pace back and forth. I got the same problem and i'm telling you you would have to not be human for it not to get to you after a while, especially when your employers notice a huge decrease in working performance...consequently denied over time!
"Doesnt even sound too loud " If you can hear the bass reverberating the floor (which it is in the video) : it's too loud. Bass drivers sitting on the floor don't rattle anything until they're too loud...
I know.. It is very very sad and dissapointing. This apartment was my *FIRST* apartment that I had on my own. No one taught methe unwritten rules of living in an apartment, it just came natural to me. BE AWARE there are people living above you, below you, to the left and right of you. To me its common sense. I respect others right to quiet just like I would wish they would do the same for me. But obviously this bloke had no respect for anybody. Im so glad Im not there anymore.
@djmarkski2000 I recorded it with my first generation Android with its own built in Recorder. Unfortunately (as you can see) it doesnt do well in low light, but Its a smart phone, its got everything a girl needs. I hope you can solve your issue with your neighbor if you have a problem. Its so sad that people are so disrespectful :(
@croydeboys There really wasnt anything to look at. When I made the video, the guy living in the apartment upstairs to me was playing his radio loudly at 12am-2am (around that time). Im sorry for the poor audio quality, but if you listen to the "thump thumps" in the background(throughout the video) , thats his radio blasting into the early morning. I moved out of that APT a while ago and I never want to get into a situation with someone with no respect for others again.
@wiggersbeware Yes.. Eventually I *WILL* move. Probably at the end of the summer. But According to my landlord (who told me that those douches are moving out anyway) Im so glad.. But yes.. Sleeping with ear plugs doesnt work for me either. Its a shame that you and I had to go through this BS just for quiet. This was my first APT that Ive rented and Ive learned a lesson. IF I do an apt.. Its gotta be top floor or a lace that has GOOD sound insulation.
Do what I did when this guy wouldnt stop 1st time. BE polite, talk with them ask them to be a little more quiet 2. 2nd offense still be as kind as possible(Im a very patient girl) 3. 3rd offense call the apt manager and have him speak to them about the noise level. (unfortunately I was stuck on number*3* 4 quite abit until I got fed up and did #4 4. Call the police 5. Call the police 6. Call the police (I called the cops on him *EVERY* time after that),I would hear the cops knocking on his door.
oh i hate those kind of neighbors! the one beneath me has a dog that make noise 24 hours! i hope you'll find a solution to stop your neighbors from making crazy noises. recording it and make like diary kinda video that shows the time might help a lot.
@jo280781 as much as I would *love* to do that,Sadly I cannot. For me to escalate the situation with retaliation of that kind would lead to him doing something to me that Im afraid of.Im a single female living with a stupid upstairs neighbor and he seems really unstable after the 2nd and 3rd time I went to talk to him.All I did was call the police everytime he played his radio loud.Everytime. the last couple of months I was in the apt I called 2-3x a week, Im just glad im out of that place.
@MyJohnsonable AMERICA!!!! F*CK YEAH!!!!! If only I were still there. I moved away from his bitch ass over the summer and Im living with my brother now. Finances of living in that building were a little too much for the drama I had to go through with him. Things as sooooo much better. I visited my old apt 2 weeks ago(I have a friend who still lives in the bldg) and I believe hes gone now.. Good RiDDANCE!!
Yup u cant do anything. I live in my apartment where i moved once bc of a loud disrespectful guy above me. I complained and complained and nothing just talk. My new neighbors above me are annoying af too. It seems like i wont be getting the peace and quiet the contract promised. The truth? I bang back every day now even between the hrs of 12am and 4am bc if they feel they can disrespect me while im a sleep i should be able to return the favor. My wife hates it but idgaf.
@ventilize In a house now with a friend of mine. We are near a cemetery ...Its quiet! Just what I needed even though the house is full of people. I can sand that for now. Im still gonna move soon to my own place after I save more $
@kx100sublimekx100 Grrrrrrs.. Im so sorry you have to put up with that. Did you call the police?.. I totally would.. just keep doing it over and over again until they get the point. I think after 3 times they can get cited or fined . Check with your local police dept.
Yeah I hate upstair neighbors too. I wish I could get mid evil with these new one's. My old one was a old vet. When at night he walk hard I use to bust one into the ground. That made him sit his ass down.
+dan losasso You honestly dont? If you turn the volume up you can her the Thud Thud........Thud of the bass. In my comment section there are people who identified what was playing actually. 50cent or something. . Anyway. I recorded it with my cel phone back in 2009 (when I had my Generation 1 Droid) You know the sound quality isnt going to be pristine or anything. SO Im sorry if its not well audible. I was there and I know how annoying and inconciderate Dom was (yes im using his real name). Anyway. I got my point across and so did the police when I called them on that guy. I was a girl living alone in LA and I had to do what I had to do.

i wrote them a letter and now it's better... i barely hear the barking now =))
awesome :)

Doesnt even sound too loud
This is why i hate living upstairs someone . Need to careful and its stressful ㅜㅜ
It is i been through alot of stress even if i was hardly home.

sounds like my neighbor
That is sooo annoying I have neighbors like that but without music they are lousy and very loud!!
People who could care less about how their noise affects others are psychopaths to varying degrees. Worthless and no damned good.
Go to your local authority and keep camplaining again and again and again. Hope this helps, I've had problems like this before.
Buy a home...and you won't have to deal with sharing walls.
