Traffic is a car/truck problem, no reason to sit in it. Also, the debate on lpsl is entirely unprovable for or against, had loud pipes on my last bike, still had someone pull out in front of me totaling my bike & throwing me 30 ft down the road.
Ignorant cagers always seem to think they own the road and bikes are invisible.

@@nottiification unless you are all knowing and can show/prove that a motorist will not notice a motorcyclist regardless of the volume of their exhaust then you are vehemently incorrect.
Aside from my prior example, I also have had instances where I was about to be merged into and revved my engine to alert them to the fact that I was there, and could you guess what happened????? They stopped pulling into my lane.
Yet another example of an ignorant cager. Not entirely sure why you think that I should be denied a freedom because y'all can't use the cluster of cells between your ears.
I recognize the inherent dangers of not having a security cage around me, however I struggle to see how using any measures to increase my safety, be it audibly or visually, is any concern of yours.

Maybe you should get your hearing checked and make better choices about where you purchase/rent your next residence. If hearing vehicles & motorcycles, when you are trying to sleep, bothers you or your cat children then chances are you need to move to a more reclusive rural area or sleep with hearing aids in. That happened because then ultimately, more and more people bought them eventually and the price went down. The tech was finally in others' hands or 'reach' and competition was finally a thing between different makers.
There is however a big difference between rate of uptake by all stakeholders in the transportation sector compared to that in the entertainment.
Please do not gloss over THIS and other realities of life. Heck even the very niche of bikes is a problem.
However, trust countries like China to take this same tech and do wonders with it.
Am in Africa and there is something I always see American companies do wrong. That is pricing. I do not know if it is because of the high costs of doing business there or just pride. But it will cost them big time.
See China concentrates on the single most efficient ways of making profit. Truth is stranger than fiction. SELLING. How many have you sold? How many units. Japan does this as well. Toyota sells not because it is the best tech company the world could ever see but simply because they have mastered the art of doing what they do best and doing it right. You do not overprice a commodity for too long or else a competitor will come and take over what was yours in the first place!
I could go on and on! Some companies are learning this the hard way though. Intel is being taught something by AMD. Nvidia is trying to fight but the odds are against them. Pricing and SELLING! Oh yes, a company may be a market leader now. BUT will that entity stay there at the top? It is the very damned reason why Huawei will be a thorny issue for most other seemingly mammoth entities who apparently should 'not worry'
This bike may be a source of pride for many. But if that price stays where it is at, well, we shall see.. Last I checked, adoration doesn't always make for great sales. That wallet power is not to be messed with. Study the wallet of your prospective buyer. Then SELL it like hot cakes.
Elon's Tesla knows this. That is the reason there was a model 3.

I went to a demo day at a Zero Dealership ( I have 3 bikes in my garage now so please believe that I have something to compare to) 2015 FJ09, 2016 Versys 1000 and a 2017 KTM 1290 Super Duke GT. These electric bikes are awesome. It’s definitely on my list to own one but not until the highway range is doubled. An outing with my riding buddies most of the time is 100-150 miles, and 15k-18k for something range bound to + or - 80 miles is way to extravagant for me. Highway and mountain roads as a route are the norm.
But for cool factor, handling, acceleration, and quiet these bikes are amazing. It’s an amazing experience to go 70mph on something that’s almost silent. As as far as cars not hearing you, shouldn’t we all be riding like we’re invisible, and in that case silent too. I always assume that no cars can see or hear me anyway so I’m totally engaged with seeing to my own safety.
I would highly recommend that you test drive one just as a bucket list item, it’s totally worth your time. Call a Dealership and ask when their next demo day is, you won’t be sorry!

No one ever said, "I never heard him." It's always, "I never saw him."
$20,000 for a bike with a 160 mile range, and a four hour recharge time if you buy an additional charging system.
Ok, well, I ride a Honda Silverwing. If I am on the freeway just keeping up with traffic 75-80 mph, no showboating just cruising along, I will have a range of around 180 miles.
Now let's tip the scales a bit and say I have over loaded my Silverwing for a long trip (I do it all the time), and now I am only getting 135- 150 miles range. Clearly the Zero has the advantage, or does it.
Let's further say the charging system is small enough to carry on the e-bike, and let's tip the fictional scales even more by saying that all gas stations have fast charging stations, or electric ports, for bikes and cars.
Both bikes take off for the same destination, Eureka Springs Arkansas from southeastern Michigan, at the same time along the same route, and the police have stopped giving motorcycles speeding tickets. Man everything is looking good for the e-bike.
I will have to stop in about two hours to refuel, relieve myself, and maybe get something to eat and drink. So now my fuel stop has turned into lunch. So now my stop is an hour long.
The e-bike has been there for an hour already (keeping the speed demon mentality) when I arrive and is charging up. So after lunch the e-bike is still charging, and will be for another two hours. At which time, I will be stopping for my second fuel stop, and all the necessary things one does after an hour long lunch two hours ago. Let's further say biological functions may be hampered by the extra cheese on the pizza two hours ago (hey, I am trying to shift the scales in favor of the e-bike), but half an hour after stopping, I am on the road again. Half an hour later the e-bike comes rolling in for a recharge, another 4 hours.
In the meantime time, I am almost four hundred miles further down range, on an over loaded maxi-scooter getting lousy mileage, with an overactive bladder, and a self induced kink in my colon because of lots of extra cheese on a pizza.
Now when the e-bike is done charging for the fourth time, my trip from southeastern Michigan to Eureka Springs Arkansas is already over for an hour already. The e-bike still has another 20 hours to complete the same route.
Now I have tried to tip the scales as mush as possible and give the Zero e-bike as many advantages as possible, but the technology simply has not advanced very far for electric bike in the past ten years. The only thing that has improved is the public relations campaigns.
This is what the electric bike industry is up against. They have to get there range up, with real world speeds, the recharge time down, and eliminate the battery electrochemical memory.
A quick battery swap system like they are doing in Thailand would help, but it's easy to see how such a system would fail if a number of batteries were not rechargeable any longer.
Now let's go drop a bomb. The internal combustion scooter over loaded, only cost a little less than half the price of the e-bike alone, not including the fast charge system. The technology is not there yet.

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The noise factor is so overrated. I had a Suzuki SV650S followed by a BMW F800S and drive a Zero since February this year. This is the most fun bike I ever drove, and I have not seen any other reaction than before with my bike making no noise. So "Loud noise just annoys" for me, I like cruising while listening to the radio, silent, non polluting, no smell, no shakes, no heat... Perfect!

Many Police Departments are utilizing Zero Motorcycles. No noise equals stealth pursuit & quick apprehension in addition to electrics other advantages. I imagine a dual sport electric motorcycle would make a perfect "toad" backup vehicle on a motorhome's rear receiver hitch. Matter of fact, there are so many advantages to a small, lightweight Suzuki Samurai 4x4 type Electric vehicle being towed by a Motorhome, I can see it taking over the market if a U.S. company has vision. A Motorhome with a 1Kilowatt + Solar array up on the roof could repower a Zero Motorcycle or my Electric Samurai type electric for weekly restocking when boondocking. Convenience, a redundant vehicle in case of Motorhome breakdown, will trump the "Tinker" factor everytime, imo, and I'm a gearhead.

I had one of those zero motorcycles and while they were fun I always worry about people not been aware of me riding next to them, super scary!.. also if you buy one please make sure you plug the charger to an independent electrical breaker circuit properly install by an electrician, I saw one of these on the news catching fire in the garage burning the whole house down!

Gear shift is on the other side, Scotty. Front and rear brakes are linked/ no rear brake pedal. There isn’t an aftermarket to mess around with....yet. I hope that isn’t looked at too closely, as regulators tend to ruin things even if they don’t pollute.

Put a couple big speakers with good bass response on there and blast something thumpy while riding for conspicuity. Of course, that will reduce the already limited range. I prefer my 1300 cc V Twin that tops out near 140 and goes 50 miles on every gallon of gas I put in the tank. And the lovely noise that comes out of the Vance & Hines ensures that the car beside me knows I'm there.

Take it from someone who has ridden a 2013 zero ds 35000 miles I don't miss the noise at all (also own a shadow 1100 with cobra drag pipes) I get cut off way more on my cruiser than on my electric. No maintenance. Fast as hell. The new srf is absolutely Insane. Got to put about 50 miles on one and it's amazing!

Noise is much needed on a motorcycle, before this my bike had stock exhaust cars almost ran me over lots of time, I change my muffler to make noise now cars slow down when I'm close noise do work.

Most motorcycle-car accidents are from cars turning left into the path of a motorcycle that has the right of way. The car driver almost always says "I didn't see him" even though he was looking straight at the bike when he pulled out into his path.
Bikes are narrow and have a single headlight. This causes the bike to get lost in the background. More lateral lighting helps. Research "SMIDSY".
