This is quickly becoming one of my favorite channels. I have consumed more horror books in the last month than I likely have in my life. Started with The Cthulhu Mythos(which was A+ quality) and now I listen to something from this channel every night when I am winding down. Love the volume of content as well.
Get on to Abominations of Yondo and Vaults of Yoh Vombis Lovecraft emulated Clark Ashton Smith. On a good day he's the better writer of phantasmagoria.
This is my first horrorbabble I have listened to. Not even finished yet but I definitely will. I am sincerely impressed and I plan to support the kind person who is committing time and energy and asking for nothing to willingly support them anyway. Thank you!
1:20:18 Man, the versatility of all the differently voiced characters was so well done. Of all the characters you've voiced, I could hardly see any crossover. Very well done, indeed!
This was absolutely amazing! Such an original idea, which satisfies lovers of both horror and scifi. The hypnotic narration makes it impossible to stop listening throughout the wild ride. 💜
1:12:32 I really liked the beginning, but by this point the story is starting to lose me: He has kicked in the head and made unconscious a prone man, after stating he was looking for her, and now he has forcibly kidnapped and detained a complete stranger, in her bathing suit from a pool, against her will. Anyone with any sense would already have left a paper trail at the local Police. Sure, it's the late 1940s, but my suspension of disbelief is getting stretched thin.
Sorta the same reaction from me, like I get we need the story to happen, but you can definitely write around making it this egregious, Jesus man haha you could literally grab people off the street to help you
Loved your voice on this . Fantastic story , with the unrelenting damp man's pursuit of the couple , very funny in parts too. And of course the ending ...well!
Ya hadda do it, din'tcha? Ya hadda put these on here again! And you knew I hadda listen to 'em again! Seriously though, the Damp Man scares the liver out of me for some reason, but the stories are so good and you tell them so well that I just have to listen to them again. Oh, well, I didn't need to sleep tonight anyway!
Unrelated to this reading. A few years ago I was listening to a story here about a man who stays in a strange town where the residents act like cats. It was an eerie tale for sure. If anyone can help id really like to finish it
Check the Blackwood author list there is another called... Strange Devotion? That has a similar feel but sadly less cats. Think it's another John Silence story.
SPOILER ALERT for anyone who hasnt listened to this yet. Please please could someone enlighten me regarding the ending. When George deliberately cut himself at the end did he bleed or was he changed into a damp man himself. I wasnt sure. It felt ambiguous but maybe its meant to be ...
A tiny suggestion to anyone writing their own story. People don't actually get 'knocked out' for more than a couple moments. To add some realism, a normal human who gets punched that hard would start audibly snoring, and yes I know how funny that sounds but trust me, it's very real. Other than this tiny, very insignificant nitpick, it's a great story.
You seem to have experience knocking people out. For myself, I find that the biggest problem in this endeavor is when you try for that extra minute of unconsciousness and you end up giving them a fractured skull or worse. 💀 I hate it when that happens.
45:00 in and this story is much better than I thought it would be. I have been avoiding these stories for no other reason than I find the title and art work "off-putting ?" . I love a good Noir story.
Clicked on this because the thumbnail art looks remarkably like the work of an artist I like. Great story! I'm a sucker for sinister and unsettling humanoids or mutant humans in speculative fiction. Brilliant ending. Absolutely did not expect that. 10/10 on the Moist Meter.
‘…Hostile late night pursuits and late night experiments gone wrong…’ Sounds like my career at Uni. 20 years on, I miss those days terribly. Though It would’ve been even better if I’d had HorrorBabble back in those days. Your Lovecraft readings would’ve been brilliant listening as I was coming down off the LSD. Thank you, by the way, for introducing me to these tales. I’ve never heard of them until your narration, and they’re marvellously peculiar.
I love this channel so much. I’ve been listening to a reading almost every day for the past few months. Just curious - does anyone know of a channel like this for sci-fi/fantasy shorts?
We've considered a separate sci-fi/fantasy channel, though sometimes we record sci-fi stories over here: th-cam.com/play/PLeNNKRLWxwoPHZfVY_foSWT04_rj_AZCd.html th-cam.com/play/PLeNNKRLWxwoMl_pNyRpgxgzhWpUn0WPDY.html
You would think if she made the police report and not George, maybe the police wouldnt have been so dismissive. Who would believe such a beautiful girl was engaged to a behemoth of a "man" like Lothor? No matter how much money a man has, you cant dismiss utter disgust and fear. 😊
This was very good! Well read of course as always but I've never heard of her and listened to the whole thing while working. Now I'm going to go find some more of hers I'll bet you've no doubt already recorded!
I really appreciate that you have this channel, and it is so popular…your voice is hypnotic, almost erotic as you tell these tales. What a wonderful gift you have, the gift of storytelling!!! 🙌
Really superbly horrific. As well as your voice acting, there's something to the villain. His otherworldly powers are far less an issue than his more commonplace incel entitlement! The stories and your dramatisation deserve way more recognition.
Interest enough concept, setting, etc., but all the "why-don't-they-just"s are almost on the level of the Geico "The running car is a bad idea, lets hide in the house with all the chainsaws" ad lol
This is legit a rip off of Mary Shelly's Frankenstein but with an incel theme. You narrated it well and I am pleased you have a recording for Frankenstein.

The drawing of the Damp Man is fantastic! Exactly right. 👌
Wow! Another solid banger! So much suspense! Now, I can finally fall asleep since I just listened the entire time.
I really enjoyed listening to this tale! The voice certainly added to the experience!
Loved this story man thanks again for it
I have listened to these individually on your channel. They are good. Thank you for combining them together.

Interesting. As is the author. Quite a detective story finding out who she really was!
These are my favorite HorrorBabble stories. But where did you find that wonderful thumbnail painting?
It was produced when we recorded the first story, but we wanted to the use the original Weird Tales images for the individual tales.
