Cynicism is nothing but a roadblock...St Thomas learned that lesson the hard way but luckily was wise enough to have Jesus dispel those. I'm sure when St Thomas preached the Gospel in remote spots such as India, he was often asked by would-be converts in those areas, "We know you believed in this Christ, but was there ever a time when you doubted Him?" I'm sure he had a hard time keeping a straight face on that one without cracking up and laughing. He must have told them, "If I hadn't doubted Jesus in the first place, I wouldn't be here telling you about Him!" LOL "But then, " he might have added, "You never met Peter either! That man denied Jesus, not once...but three times! And instead of walking away from him, Jesus forgave Peter and gave him another chance of declaring that love and asked Peter three times, "Simon, son of John, do you love Me?" And Simon replied each time, "Of course I love you!" And each time Jesus told Peter, "Feed My Sheep...Feed My Lambs!" Jesus also told Peter and His followers there will come a time when they will wind up having to prove that love by means of bearing witness to that love, even if it at was at the cost of their own lives. "For he who loses his own life for My sake will regain it...and those who retain their life will lose it!" Miracles and the sacraments share the same elements of being what St Augustine of Hippo averred as 'visible signs of invisible grace'. When Pope Paul VI met with one Eastern Orthodox patriarch he was asked what's the greatest sin against the Holy Spirit, the patriarch replied, "Division in the Church!" I pray that all may become one flock, one fold and one shepherd!
Thank you Sister Vassa for declaring what the Holy Council is about and its six points. The Council need to add a seventh point: A continual supply of coffee for your excellent and worthy show. :)
+pgroove163 Dear pgroove163, every single member of this Council is an Orthodox Christian, and the voting members are ordained hierarchs of the Orthodox Church. If you do believe the Orthodox Church is a Church, then perhaps you can consider accepting what the Church is doing, and that is, coming together for this Council. Or do you have some OTHER "one true church" in mind?
They call the Pope-ists ''church'' and Barthomeos threatened to isolate the ones who did not participate from the body of the church, there is a great crime commited here that will split the orthodox church and create a wave of heretic unity between heretic ideals, the pope-ists and those who accept them as church ''like us''. ''lets make a more earthly church'' he said yesterday, what about the heaven mr Barthomeos ? ''I am not from this world'' and ''the world hated Me and they will hate you'' says the Lord. Not to mention the arch-Bishop of Athens who called the missing Bishops to sign the documents even though they may not participate in the council, like saying, ''ok don't come we only need you to accept what we do''. To accept what ?
I beg your pardon. This is only an evil "gathering" of ecumenists, globalists, modernists and some Masons/Rotarians in cassocks. The fact that they call themselves "Orthodox Christians" and are "ordained hierarchs" is irrelevant. What matters is WHAT THEY REPRESENT. From your perch in Roman Catholic Vienna, continue your ecumenism if you wish. However, many Orthodox hierarchs and millions of believers, worldwide, want no part of this evil, anti-Orthodox agenda. You and others like you are pathetic. You're a slick talker who fools the naive and ignorant - new converts especially like you.
So ironic...while I was watching the video I was interrupted and the topic came up about cynicism! I finish the conversation and turn the video back on and BADA-BING you were talking about cynicism too Sister Vassa! Thank you so much for sharing. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. Lord have mercy. :)
Father Matei Vulcanescu from the Church "Panaghia Odighitria" Metropolis Piraeus, Orthodox Church of Greece, answer to the question: What will be the effect of the "Holy and Great Council" to be held in Crete on the Orthodox Christians everywhere (if the Council approves the preliminary texts adopted by the Synaxis of the Primates of the Orthodox Autocephalous Churches at Chambésy in January 2016)? First of all, the effect will be the distortion of the Church teaching in the mind of the Orthodox Christians, or better said the sealing of this already existing distortion. The Orthodox Christians are influenced today by a variety of relativist ideas; for the most part they ignore their own faith. Orthodoxy is not a relativist faith, but confesses that there are no truths other than Christ, Who said: “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life”, and that no one can acquire the eternal Life without uniting with Christ in the One Church, His Body. In spite of this, today many believe that the Roman Catholics are also a Church (Sister Churches, “the two lungs of the Church”), even more believe that those who are not Orthodox will be saved too, and many more of them see nothing wrong in praying and worshipping together with the non-Orthodox or in appropriating various Protestant and pagan ideas. Some of these ideas will be sealed by this Council, showing a state of fact. By trampling the teaching of the Church, the Orthodox identity will be lost and in the Holy Sanctuaries the Orthodox teaching will no longer be asserted by the priests who preach the new relativist faith. This is precisely the beginning of any fall out of the Church of Christ, the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic, that is the Orthodox Church. Every reference point for holiness will be abolished, so that the whole battle of the saints for keeping the purity of the Orthodox faith will be made useless. The new type of “Orthodox” will be created, who has as supreme values Freedom, Fraternity and Equality, as the preliminary texts for the Council in Crete assert. This will be an alienation of the people from Orthodoxy, with the main consequence of losing the salvation of their soul! This is why we attach so much importance to the knowledge of the Orthodox teaching in contrast with the novel teachings of this so-called “Council”. In history there have been many robber councils, that is, councils which tried to change the teaching of the Church and to endorse other ideas. It is not unlikely that we will have another one soon. But whoever will accept it in his consciousness and confession, and will not wall himself off from those who accept it, will be apart from Christ God the Truth and His Gospel. Protopresbyter Matei Vulcănescu
I fully agree and add, all this is the beginning of ecumenism and the one world religion of the antichrist. Wake up fellow orthodox brothers and sisters and condem it.
In that case, it's a good thing there is no agenda to take the Orthodox Church down this route - or if there is, it's held by a vast minority in the Church, and has absolutely nothing to do with this Council. The Orthodox Church is and always will be the challenging source of Truth and Life for the world - at least, if it's not stopped by extreme conservatives who think we're still living under the Ottoman Occupation, and would rather keep everything the same and comfortable, rather than be challenged themselves by condescending and responding to the world, as Christ did.
These are alternative spellings, Nate, as far as we have researched. Entirely synonymous, so we're gonna leave it this way. Please don't be upset. We mean "completeness," and that is a definition covered by both spellings.
Sister Vassa, I must confess, I am becoming romanced by the Eastern Orthodox tradition. The biggest theological hang up I find with Roman Catholic theology is Atonement theory. I am out of my depth here, but the notion of that Christ died to ransom man out of debt to God is disquieting. Also, Ancestral Sin appears more textually sound than Augustine's Original Sin. Again, I am wading into this material as a "greenhorn." I have recommended your videos to a range of my friends. Thanks again for your wonderful work. Respectfully, Nate
Thank you for reminding me to pray about this Council, and reminding me that cynicism is not the route to miracles, but prayer is. God bless you.

yes indeed, Sister Vassa! Prayers for a great outcome. I have no doubt: Christ is among us. As always, thanks for your God-given wisdom

Seraphim, I am removing my comment. It was half-baked and ignorantly spouted. God bless.

+Seraphim Collins I fully agree with you

I think "fulness" in the subtitles needs to be fixed.

I am embarrassed to admit I didn't know about the alternative spelling. I stand edified and corrected.
