Always have. People just weren't paying attention. This year alone, they also struck a major fan project down and started a weird gaming patent lawsuit over microtransaction implementation.
As common place as this is now. I tell people, instead of complaining about companies delisting games, just find a way to make a copy or pirate. Eventually, more games will be delisted anyway, so I don't feel guilty about doing this. When they do this, it just hurts the people who want to get these games legally. It also makes piracy/pirating worse.
You make a good point about real customers being the ones who get hurt the most by these delistings and not the pirates, which is one of the worst things of all.
Maybe they're testing the Disney Vault strategy in an attempt to make a quick buck from people rushing to buy up the titles slated for delisting, that way they can make themselves look good again by bringing them back some years later. Nintendo dabbled in something similar too.
Probably too late to put the toothpaste back in the tube. They devalued their “classic” games to pennie’s and only think of them as ads for their brand and revivals. Nintendo for all their flaws in this regard does the “Disney Vault” concept much better.
These games probably don't sell atm. They will pull them, wait a year or two and then trickle them back to us as newly mixed up collections of classics. Us Idiots will buy them again. Or a subscription service.

This will only be okay if all of the titles get rereleased (at the same or lower price point) in a new collection with higher quality emulation, as the Genesis Classics collection had poor emulation and would be much better off handled by someone like M2. Aside from that scenario, this is a terrible move.
I agree. Having M2 do compilations could make up for this move in a big way, but M2 stays pretty busy and they may already be helping out with another Sega mini console. It is possible for sure though. I just don't know if I have any faith in Sega to have a good plan lined up at this point.

Didn't they announce something about reviving their old games a while back? I thought they said something about Jet Set Radio when they hyped up all those other games such as Streets of Rage 5. However, I do fear what they'd do with the Genesis games. If they were smart, they'd look into licensing the Carbon Engine and see if they can do an overlay for the games to make it something like Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap with classic and modern modes. I'd also suggest expanding the library with as much stuff from previous Genesis compilations as they can. They may not want to be known as a "retro company" and want to move forward from the Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, and the Dreamcast that has become the entire face of SEGA's image.
