Another of my art teachers told me that it was accidentally cut off during a fight with his friend, Paul Gauguin. But who knows? I've always liked his paintings...
Why would a prostitute want an ear? That seems disturbing on her part. And with the fight with his friend well I guess he didn't want to hear it any more. HAHA! Bad pun

This list should be called "Top 10 artists with the most expensive paintings" There are plenty of painters better than some of the ones shown on this list. Most of these painters are regarded in bias sheerly due to the fact that their works are worth money today, which is determined solely by the art market. There are times in history where we have found paintings without a signature and discarded them because we didn't believe they were worth much, then later on find out a certain famous someone made the artwork, and all of a sudden its worth hundreds of thousands. What does that tells you about how we judge art?
Hieronymus Bosch was a remarkable artist and his Garden of Earthly Delights triptych is in my opinion one of the most intriguing and fascinating paintings ever created. I think he deserves a place on this list.
While I marvel at the works of these masters... it's really pointless to nitpick on who's the best 10, 15, 20... and so on. Certainly Vermeer, Rubens, Velazquez, Sargent, Caravaggio.. and who knows how many more belong on this list-along with "honorable mention"!!!!!!! :)
I think William Turner should have been on this list, he was an amazing artist who worked so brilliantly in watercolour mainly focusing on landscapes. I do well and truly dislike modern art, I prefer renascence works in the style of mannerism and baroque. They will always look better than what Picasso of Dali ever created.
My favorite painters are Raffaello Sanzio de Urbino, Michelangelo de Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, Leonardo di see Piero day Vinci and Donato di Niccolo di Bette Bardi. Can you guess why?
Diego Velazquez from the golden age, should have been included. It is incredible that he was not, "Its complex and enigmatic composition raises questions about reality and illusion, and creates an uncertain relationship between the viewer and the figures depicted." Velazquez was undoubtedly one of the greatest artist ever.
I am pretty sure they didn't include las meninas on their iconic painting list either eventhough it's one of the best pieces all time. I feel like watchmojo has something against Velazquez lol...
It's a trio! If you have Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangel9 you can not exclude Raffaello... The School of Athens is a very very well known painting! Don't forget that Raffaello was mourned even by the Pope who agreed that he was among the most brilliant painters...
I'm no expert here, I just love to look at beautiful things that Da Vinci and Van Gogh did. Van Gogh has this distinct brush stokes you know it got to be his. And of course Da Vinci who an artist who defied boundaries unknown at his time to create masterpiece after another. 💜
Van Gogh for me is the best painter of all time, his paintings portrays so much beauty esp mundane views but he always make it extraordinary... no other artist has his own museum, and whose his face or arts being printed in merchandise.. certainly the most beloved painter of all time... why i adore him as an artist is because he is so inspirational, even not many appreciates his painting in his time or bought his painting, he still continue painting because it is his passion... and that tells a lot...
I really appreciate this but... Where's Caravaggio??? You realize without HIM Rembrandt wouldn't have painted how he did... or anyone in the baroque period. or Jaques Luis David? Mark Rothko?.... anyone?...
As a visual artist myself, I can understand to a degree the choices submitted here. Still, it's difficult to exclude other equally ingenious masters like Velazquez, Rubens, Caravaggio, Sargent and so forth. Any of these artists could have easily made this list. Then again, it's simply impossible to select a so called all time list of anything... reducing it to just 10 when there are an endless supply of extraordinary people, places, talent, etc. This sort of rating usually works most when the rating comes from its existing generation.
My favorites are: 1. Edvard Munch 2. Vincent van Gogh 3. Leonardo Da Vinci 4. Edouard Manet 5. Moronobu Hishikawa 6. Rembrandt 7. Morita Haruyo 8. Andy Warhol 9. Claude Monet 10. Johannes Vermeer Ok they're all pretty much in random order except number 1 because Edvard Munch is pretty much all I talk about

Supermarket pop ranking, probably due to a main fascination for impressionism and the avant-garde of the early twentieth century. Van Eyck, Bosch, Raphael, Caravaggio, Velàzquez, Rubens, Vermeer ...for many critics and art historians already most of these artists would be in the top 5.
It's difficult to tell. For me Leonardo is undoubtedly numer one, not just for being a painter but probably one of the most brilliant geniouses who has ever lived. There have been many great painters. Personally, I like Henry Rousseau, Vermeer, Bosch, Turner, Constable, just to name some.
Move Goya, Cézanne ,and Renoir to honorable mentions and replace them with Caravaggio, Botticelli and Vermeer. Additional honorable mentions are Hieronymus Bosch, Jan van Eyck, Hans Holbein, Rubens, Albert Bierstadt and Casper Friedrich, among others :)
I pretty much agree with this list, especially the top 2 . Rembrandt deserves to be up here too. Don’t know about Kahlo. And Klimt. Klimt had an interesting story of what happened to his work being stolen during the war, but doesn’t mean it should be on this list! Munch is only up there for The Scream because it’s so weird. Van Gogh was so tormented, poor fellow. His work spoke of genius though!
For me a list of best painters of all time without Raphael is not a list . . . he is not even on the honorable mentions . . . i dont agree . . . that s only my opinion
+David Calado I know! they ignored the entire baroque and neo classicism movement! what about jacque louis david? and Delacoix?? Liberty leading the people? hello!
I know . . . and like Alberto Samori said . . . what about tiziano di vecellio? . . . he is one of the best painters of the 16th century and one of the best ever . . . people love the florentine movement that they sometimes forget that there were amazing painters in the Venetian School as well . . . Tiziano is a legend in his own right
David Calado then there is also the Dutch and Flemish artists, like Ruben. Honestly, Watch Mojo is all about Mona Lisa cuz of its popularity and ignored so many other influential artists
Cornelia Li Rubens also Velasquez are great artists . . . i understand that there are only 10 spots to forfill and there are many amazing painters . . but forgetting about the Triad of the classical renaissance grandmasters (in this case forgetting about Raphael) is really unforgivable in my opinion . . . It s like talking about the electric light bulb without mention Thomas Edison
Bonsoir, 1) Michel-Ange 2) Jérôme Bosch 3) Le Greco 4) Raphaël 5) Fra Angelico 6) Giotto 7) Rembrandt 8) Vermeer 9) Delacroix 10) Velasquez + 11) Dürer 12) Champaigne 13) Chagall 14) Picasso 15) van Gogh 16) Gainsborough 17) Turner 18) David 19) Le Caravage 20) Georges de La Tour 21) Le Titien 22) Géricault 23) Ingres
Sure Leonardo da Vinci was the greatest artist. He uses lot of technologies, ratios, proportions etc which we still use today. But to me painting is more like expressing yourself and let the brush flow naturally without following any tradations, just pure emotions. For me Vincent Van Gogh is the best and his tragic life adds more meaning & life to his painting
Da Vinci's origin story is based in art but I feel like as time went on, it became more of a side hustle for him....yet he's considered the best of the best. Shows how truly versatile the man was.
Michelangelo was considered superior to Da Vinci in Italy during the renaissance. Da Vinci at the top of these lists is usually people who haven’t done much research. Michelangelo is considered the greatest artist of all time

It's a trio! If you have Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangel9 you can not exclude Raffaello... The School of Athens is a very very well known painting!
Don't forget that Raffaello was mourned even by the Pope who agreed that he was among the most brilliant painters...
Forget Donatello teenage mutant ninja turtles
There is another one from Austria🗿
Yeah Gustav Klimt lol
@@mchazelover Nein
I believe that Leonardo da Vinci is the best artist of all time.
@Debbie Smith I know
Yeah 😭
@@human7491 He's definitely the most famous though. Everyone should know his name
Michelangelo is a better artist.
what about austrian painter
😂😂😂😂😂
Klimt 😉
I love Art. My favorite Goya. Dali. I love to try to copy their styles. I love Cubism. Van Gogh. Frida I love them all.
I'm no expert here, I just love to look at beautiful things that Da Vinci and Van Gogh did. Van Gogh has this distinct brush stokes you know it got to be his. And of course Da Vinci who an artist who defied boundaries unknown at his time to create masterpiece after another. 💜
He made only a few paintings though
Van Gogh for me is the best painter of all time, his paintings portrays so much beauty esp mundane views but he always make it extraordinary... no other artist has his own museum, and whose his face or arts being printed in merchandise.. certainly the most beloved painter of all time... why i adore him as an artist is because he is so inspirational, even not many appreciates his painting in his time or bought his painting, he still continue painting because it is his passion... and that tells a lot...
Sorry bit Michelangelo ,Leonardo, Raffaello and Caravaggio were the Absolute best painters of all time.
Andre Herring art is the best
I live in St Petersburg FL and we have a Salvador Dali museum lol
and there's also one in Spain
I sense you've never heard of the Munch Museum?
Where is the famous Austrian guy with a cool mustache
I know one Austrian painter who didn't make the list
I really appreciate this but...
Where's Caravaggio??? You realize without HIM Rembrandt wouldn't have painted how he did... or anyone in the baroque period.
or Jaques Luis David?
Mark Rothko?....
anyone?...
Not a bad list, but no Titian or Caravaggio?
Or Giovanni Bellini?
Renaissance artist were left off
As a visual artist myself, I can understand to a degree the choices submitted here.
Thank you for a good viewing with good honorable mentions too, short and very nice, appreciate the showing!!!!!!
Dali has always enthralled me with his incredible images😮😮❤
6:02 I had to draw that in my art class
This was a pointless comment but still
where the heck is Peters Paul Rubens????
Where in the FUCK is master Caravaggio???
edit : also Schiele, no mention?..
agreed

Beautiful heartwarming masterpieces that never grow old and inspire so much imagination!

I would have added Caravaggio
you forgot Diego Rivera
MrOnionCock Dude, you made me laugh so hard. That was out of fucking nowhere.
Make a video with the top 10 Dutch, top 10 French and top 10 Italian painters!
Make also a top 10 best paintings ever!
Caravaggio, Vermeer, Velasquez , Van Eyck, Jacques Louis-David, etc.....
Supermarket pop ranking, probably due to a main fascination for impressionism and the avant-garde of the early twentieth century. Van Eyck, Bosch, Raphael, Caravaggio, Velàzquez, Rubens, Vermeer
...for many critics and art historians already most of these artists would be in the top 5.
You forget one more 😈
Austria's most famous painter
Giotto?
Duccio?
Édouard Manet?
Diego Velázquez?
CARAVAGGIO?
I like Edouard Manet but I always misspell his first name as "Eduard"
René Magritte deserves at least an honorable mention !
3 years late but very much yes
yes!!!
No way he belongs in top 10 of all time.
Jean michel basquiat has been my favorite painter since I found out who he was
Exactly...why has no one mentioned him?
Not enough people know of his genius. Some of my favorites are works of his.
I think Turner was a better painter than Leonardo. Leonardo was a brilliant artist/ genius but as a painter I think there are some who are better.
You honourably mention Frida Kahlo and Pollock and leave out Caravaggio, Boticelli and El Greco. You've got to be kidding.
When you’re an art student and you know all these artists and all these paintings
Absolutely love this piece of art. Beautiful -Van Gogh
Don't let americans pronounce european names.
If you're referring to the United States, then just know that the narrator is Canadian.
She's Canadian!!!! Learn your shit
randomgamerdude98 since when Canada is not part of America, genius?
klsau I agree with your point, there. I just can't stand people who are disrespectful and moreover technically wrong
Oh, so you mean just the Americans can't pronouce the names right? Every Dutch, Swede a Russian or a japenese etc. can pronouce the names right?
Aahh Hello? You left of the Greatest Caravaggio!
For me a list of best painters of all time without Raphael is not a list . . . he is not even on the honorable mentions . . . i dont agree . . . that s only my opinion
+ David Calado With Caravaggio,Tiziano,Botticelli
N1 painter in Adolf
Bonsoir,
1) Michel-Ange
2) Jérôme Bosch

15) van Gogh
16) Gainsborough
17) Turner
18) David
19) Le Caravage
20) Georges de La Tour
21) Le Titien
22) Géricault
23) Ingres
Michelangelo is considered the greatest artist of all time
@@mchazeloverMichelangelo is the best ever but as a sculptor at painting others were better than him. He didn’t consider himself a painter at all
Where is the painter who drew Europe?
*Drew all over Europe
Any art can pull you in and keep there that's what is so amazing
4:39- MY favorite Van Gogh works: "For Amy", "Invisible Monster in Church", "Expolding Blue Box" and the recently unearthed "Tardis At Mount Majour"...
Seriously? No Flemish primitives? No Jan van Eyck and Hubers van Eyck? Not even a honourable mention?

What about Caravaggio or Botticelli so much better then Frida
I laughed so hard when you pronounced the Dutch names^_^
Me 2
Inderdaad.
***** so does every other language, they just make it sound english. oh and we have an authentic dutch word for everything but the english of French words are just more known. so we use it to avoid confusion
***** Stealing words? Have you ever heard english? A massive amount of words are stolen from french.
Now this is a good watchmojo video. Top 3 was perfect. Di Vinci was unreal he finished a painting of what his master started he changed the type of paint he used so then when a certain light shun on it the angel in the picture vanishes. His photos could be flipped or whatever and its mirror imagines of like alien beings.
Beautiful. My favourite of all time Monet
Why is johannes vermeer not in it, his paitings are unreal, take the girl with the Pearl earring.
