This is a great one. I wonder if the Recce of the harbour between 9-11 June 1980, was specifically planned to coincide with the attack on Smokeshell base. My thinking that all attention diverted to that battle possibly meaning less chance of the recces being detected
Thanks, very nicely presented. Funny when you hear about submarine and Recce operations on social media. It used to be a big no no to even say the word “Recce” in the submarine flotilla. We used to call Recces “ Vasbyt manne”.

This excellent change in presentation format has resulted in a thoroughly enthralling, enjoyable and professional first instalment. I am sure it will stand the testament of time as a unique historical record and tribute to the very brave personal involved in this mission.
Amazing. We have an after-second world war submarine as a museum display in Portsmouth. The H M S Alliance. It is now part of the historic dockyard, and can be reached by a small tender, the Jenny R, across the harbour.

Kleppers is n baie goeie metode van klandestiene infiltrasie maar dit het ook beperkings soos: • See kondisies • Afstande na die teiken vanaf die duikboot • Wanneer n span moet ople aan land moet daar geskikte terrein wees om die kleppers te versteek • Vir die Raiding Groep is kleppers onvoldoende om al die gewig en limpet myne te dra. Antw: Die opdrag was om al die bergingstenks te vernietig in Lobito Hawe. Die tenk by die sementfabriek was ook n groot tenk en met dit vernietig sou die sementfabriek en trokke sukkel om te funksioneer. Die sement fabriek was gekies as teiken omdat dit sement verskaf het waarmee die brue herstel is nadat Spes Magte en Unita dit vernieyig het soos bv die culverts ens tydens die Humbia tonnel en ander aanvalle deur recces en Unita op infra struktuur. Tydens die verkenning was dit duidelik dat dit moeilik sou wees om die fabriek uit aksie te stel en daar het ook heelwat sivvies in die plek gewerk deurnag. Daar is toe besluit dat die opgaar tenk ,n belangrike rol vervul en dit as teiken moet dien wat dan hopelik sekondêre skade sal veroorsaak. Die ontploffings van die tenks het egter die werkers in die fabriek laat vlug en die fabriek het aangehou werk sonder olie en toesig en in die proses groot skade opgedoen. ,N bonus vir ons wat ons nie regtig voorsien het nie.
