    I was also at Infantry School in 1978 being trained in Charlie Company where CSM WO 2 HG Smit (later RSM 61 Mech) ruled with force, fear and power. A man I feared.
    I recall the incident involving the two Alpha Company corporal, especially of one called Ore. He was slightly built and of medium height, fair skinned and jet-black hair. Their ( the two corporals) sadism was urban legend at the time. Their "base" where they inflicted punishment on unsuspecting troops was notorious and known all over Infantry School as, "The Pink Panther's Workshop". Mercifully I never paid a visit. Ore was later to serve in 32 Bn with some distinction as confirmed by Stef.
    Captain Andre Erasmus also originally an Infantry Officer turned Int Officer was Aide d' Camp to General Viljoen. Tragically, KIA at Savate. An outstanding officer and a gentleman. As was 2Lt De Vos also originally Charlie Company Infantry School and KIA 32 Bn.
    Agree this was personal, interesting and candid. Told with with great humor.
    The way 32 Bn was treated in the beginning and at the end is forever a blemish and shameful.

    Thank you Koos and Steph. Great interview. Maj Genl (rtd) Chris Serfontein (snr), served as SSO Ops (Col) at Special Forces (SF) and was never an Officer Commanding of SF.
    Chris Serfontein (jnr), son of Maj Genl was indeed a qualified SF operator and towards the end of his career in SF, commanded the Special Forces Traing School. Chris Serfontein (jnr) is currently the Chairman of the SA Special Foces Association (SASFA). Best regards Frans Fourie

      Genl Serfontein was a Commandant and the Commanding Officer of 52 Bn during 1979. Not a Major. My sincere thanks for an informative and good interview. Respect!!

    The Pathfinders were bored because they were not utilized as recce groups because their main job was to lay out dropping zones vir parachute assaults. Which did not materialize The Bats were used as helicopter assault forces or LSM (lug storm mag) and worked with 5Recce because Fort Rev was tight next to them at Ondangwa The Pathfinders were later utilized as deep penetration anti tank groups in the bigger operations. The legacy of the Bats still continue to be made even today with their and the Recces involvement in operations in Africa like the battle of Bangui in CAR

      Vossie, we had to rock because nobody else rocked or new southern Angola like us. I felt safer in Angola watching the stars at night and take on the new day. It is an experience/adventure and then to know your teammates can talk to the enemy. In 94 I went back to Angola as retired Lt col and in 2 days the generals àproached me with business deals and worked for them for another 6 years.

      WR only joined us end of 79 and as we were short-term and had other plans he obviously be the first official commander he did it his way. He took my best troop C Paulo in his team and he was was suffocated by Louis Smidt SAMS survival instructor at Buffalo, nothing happened to him he passed lonely years later. WR didn't even know but when he heard it he was crying. I can't comprehend the motive of murdering anyone for your own cause? I tell you if I was there Louis Smidt would have got justice, but I found him in Moth Sunnyside shellhole and made his live miserable.

    Ron, was Rhodesian SAS and we were not mercenaries but attested into the PF under a 1 year contract renewable due to SADF regulaions and yes Falcon did not like foreigners as a Major briefed us. As a newly arrived Parabat Scottish Sgt i wanted to say then why is he in SWA/Namibia as the unit consisted of Angolans he himself is a Foreigner

    • @stephnaude5102
      @stephnaude5102 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didnt know Rhodesian SAS was involved in north Africa in late 50s early 60s as Ron told us him and a buddy had to escape and evade 800km through Sudan and neighbouring countries. As for our involvement you have to ask British invaders because yhey ordered Jan Smuts to annex SWA in 1912 which resulted in a Boer rebellion in 1914. The first Owambo war happened because British want Wambo slaves for daimant mines in SWA, etc. Hope it answers your question.

    • @robertosmith3556
      @robertosmith3556 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@stephnaude5102 British invaders did not the Dutch arrive in RSA you obviously do not like foreigners and you Broederbond gave the Country away and Ron acted alone in Sudan not part of the SAS but a former member .

    • @stephnaude5102

      @@robertosmith3556 You can google about SA history and Broederbond, we were send to SWA by the British. They created the cutline in Owamboland and the Caprivi strip which caused the border war. Im not here to argue with you or teach you history, Im just giving you facts. Take it or leave it.

      G'day TT,
      Blue has contacted me about some or other stuff up over your book getting mixed in with some other author's manuscript, what a cock up.
      The publisher must be a complete incompetent!
      Anyway, whatever happened has to be fixed up by the publisher.
      Mate Blue is concerned that he has been misrepresented in some places, I find it hard to believe you would deliberately say anything untrue about him.
      We both know Bluey is no angel, but we old 32 blokes owe each other the truth.
      What happened that has my old mate so upset?
      See you in '24!
      Cheers
