Stihl 661 total rebuild.

Hey everybody. I’m back. This is my first full rebuild since my accident in mid February. I’ve been doing a few service tuneup jobs, but this is the first full build.
And what a great saw to kick off with. Bit of a story to this one. It was straight fuelled, then repaired with an aftermarket knock off piston & cylinder kit. More no name rubbish. Soon after this work was done, the saw failed again, destroyed the knock off top end and cooked the crank.
It’s now back to the way Stihl intended. 100% genuine bearings, seals, gaskets. New Stihl piston kit and wrist pin bearing are now living in a genuine ProSaw serviced cylinder.
A donor 661 gave up a lot of its original parts to complete this build including its crankshaft and cylinder. It’ll be on its way back to its owner very soon.
On a more personal note. I can’t even begin to describe how good it is to be back in the workshop and building saws. I still can’t walk without crutches or a frame, but with a bit of organisation and a lot of help from my wife and daughter and my great customers I’m able to keep ProSaw Services running. There’s a lot of work coming in already, including more full rebuilds and I’m looking forward to every job.
Hopefully soon I’ll be walking again. And cutting timber. 🙂
