Long bar testing the 500i vs a ported stihl 661. Fun day running saws and playing with the big iron! For more product and service info visit the website worksaws.com
Hi Joe. Very good job on both saws I would be happy to own 500i & 661 you have modified. I do have a 500i & 661 in stock form I’m running STIHL light bar on both saws 500 28” and 661 32” 661 does a better job pulling the longer bar in big wood more torque. 500i is a much nicer saw to use all day long not as hard on my shoulders and back. Good job on both the saws you built it’s also nice to see you using them cutting big logs 🪵 that’s the real test.
I have both of these saws. The 661 definitely has more power, but is also a beast to handle for very long. The 500i is my work saw and is really nice to use. Ive only had the 500 run weird on me once. The rest of the time it's a joy to use.
G'day Joe, if the Stihl doesn't start it's either out of fuel or it's got a bad plug. Nice comparison on the two saws I've got a stock MS660 25 inch bar I put a 28 on it and it won't pull it as well as the 25 in the Aussie hard wood ps nice loader 👍🇦🇺.
Joe that's an excellent video. I expected the 500 to clean up, as strong as they seem stock. And you know I'm not a huge stihl fan. Good job on both of them. And I love the little Allis. Handy like a shirt pocket!
Nice runners, that 500 didn't sound happy at the end of that noodling, hope you can figure that system out, the guys seem to like them a lot. Have a great weekend.
Iv never been a huge stihl fan but I bet one of your builds could change my mind or make me hate a stock one even more ! Lol your a hell of a builder man
Hey Joe, I've been keeping up with your work especially the bore and sleeve content. I have 4 or 5 - 125C blocks and some mac kart engines that need sleeved. I am planning on eventually being able to do them in my garage. Let me know if you'd want to get together and mess with a couple of them. I also have some macs to dyno if you'd wanna. Thanks and keep the good stuff comin'
That 661 sure pulls hard Joe. What’s that 500i revving at WOT ?? I’m so thankful I managed to accumulate some of the all time classic pro stihls and husky’s before they went to a mind of their own computerized saws. I wanna like em but just haven’t had good luck
I get carbs on my Stihl saws. They still have them. Just don’t get the M Tronic or fuel injected 500i. Then you can custom tune it to whatever your heart desires.
Also Joe, you have any solutions to when the 500i decides to Ritchen its self right up and run like a pile of junk other then the tried and trued west coast fallers method of calling it a peace of $hit....throwing it around and then proceeding to rev it to the moon in hopes it self destructs its self? It just feels like the computer learns really really slow when the temp/altitude changes.
Buckin billy ray has a video on the 500i limbing a maple and in the comments an individual mentioned the way these new mtronic and injection protect/rpms limit the engines under low loads sends a ton of fuel out. I have a 661 and have to leave my bibs outside overnight sometimes they stink so bad. Very touchy with fuel, temp, humidity, altitude.
Has that 500i ever been retuned? I know it was giving you some trouble when you first built it. Suck that you can't do a reset like on the m-tronic saws
That 661 is a runner 💪nice job Joe
Thank you!
500i certainly does rip but that 661 really is in a world of its own, makes light work of that big bar
Those 661 sure make the power
I have both. 661 has big boy seeds. That being said I use the 500 every day
Awesome video! I just LOVE those big bore saws! Nice job Dyno Joe!!!👍👍👍
Thank you
Both amazing runners!

They are both holding great rpms!! Great job!!
Thank you
NICE WORK!!!
Both sound rowdy, nice job Joe!
Thank you
Wow! Both saws are awesome
Thank you!
nice running saws Buddy, great job.

Thats a pretty tidy 605B. I used to drive one of those 35 years ago in a saw mill.
no replacement for displacement, if you can carry it.
The big saws sure are nice with the longer bars
Love them saws
I love my 500!, slabs all day with a 36" bar. I would be like Luke Skywalker with that 661.
Just have to add a 661 to the collection....

Now that’s impressive. I like these cutting videos
Thank you
I’d be interested in a build.
Both very strong timber saws in my opinion!!!!! U build an awesome saw.
As opposed to what? cheese?
Nice!

Thank you, the 500 is such a fun saw. And the allis sure is handy

Dang nice firewood sir
👍👍
Nice runners, that 500 didn't sound happy at the end of that noodling, hope you can figure that system out, the guys seem to like them a lot.
Have a great weekend.
Thank you. I think most of the sound was the chain rattle loading up in the rotten spot.
i like the fact your using hard wood sugarmaple is very hard i wish they would use hard wood at the competions
Iv never been a huge stihl fan but I bet one of your builds could change my mind or make me hate a stock one even more ! Lol your a hell of a builder man
Thank you, they run pretty well
Just absolutely rocking. Beauty. How did the BB effect the fuel economy(or lack there of) of the 500?
It is thirsty and then some...
I would love to see you build a 80cc or so twin cylinder and make it fit in the 661 frame. Have you ever done something like that?
Sounds neat! U have never done a twin cylinder before
I’d be happy with either!
I am pretty happy with both. But always looking for more.
@@dynojoemods2764 haha I know the feeling
That 661 is crazy, meanwhile I am going to do simple MM for Shiny/Echo 501sx 😅

That would be great! Are you going to sawfest? We have chatted via email before, might have to schedule some time to meet.
@@dynojoemods2764 I'll shoot you an email later on
This is a fantastic video, was the 661 stock or did you give it the good stuff?
Thank you. 661 is fully ported
good video,
is the 661 the R or C/CM?? i like how the 661 stays in the lower rpm range
Thank you. It is rhe cm
That 661 sure pulls hard Joe. What’s that 500i revving at WOT ??
I’m so thankful I managed to accumulate some of the all time classic pro stihls and husky’s before they went to a mind of their own computerized saws.
I wanna like em but just haven’t had good luck
It will hit high 13k but it likes to go rich under any load right to the power spot. But light load it is prolly 11-12k
I get carbs on my Stihl saws. They still have them. Just don’t get the M Tronic or fuel injected 500i. Then you can custom tune it to whatever your heart desires.
That 661 is a beast! Wood you consuder that a woods/worksaw porting job? Interested in getting my 661 ported. What's your typical rate?
Thank you, yes that is a normal work build. 350$ + shipping is the current rate.
That 500i is amezing!!!! Great work! Congrats!!!
Thank you
Also Joe, you have any solutions to when the 500i decides to Ritchen its self right up and run like a pile of junk other then the tried and trued west coast fallers method of calling it a peace of $hit....throwing it around and then proceeding to rev it to the moon in hopes it self destructs its self?
It just feels like the computer learns really really slow when the temp/altitude changes.
Just have to keep it loaded and let it do it's thing. But other than this type of bucking I don't put a ton of time on saws.

Looks like the injection keeps up just fine
Does fine up top, but does have an idle issue down low at the end of a long cut. Like it forgets to add a bit of fuel to settle into an idle
Mesin yang sangat menarik 👍👍
🥩🏆
Just a shame the 500i doesn't have perfect manners. If it idled a bit steadier it would be nice. Tough when doing that profound a mod.
Normally it is decent. Must just be something to do with the fuel flow returning to idle
How do I get ahold of ya for some saw work

There’s no replacement for displacement ;)
Stihl 💪🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
No 500i for me!!!! .
9,55 hp ! normalement 7,4 hp ! ms661
