Interesting fact: The practice of drinking green tea originated in China. Legend has it that it was discovered by Shannong, the Emperor of China, in 2737 B.C when a few tea tree leaves fell into his cup of boiled water. Later, Chinese monks started drinking green tea for refreshment and to help them meditate. They would often travel to India and other places to spread Buddhism, and they took this miracle drink with them. Thereafter, green tea gained popularity :)

Get loose leaf tea from a local shop if you can! Most tea comes from the same few places: China, India, Sri Lanka, Japan. My favorite green tea comes from Nepal, but apparently a war is going on there right now, so i hope the growers are supported through it.

Who said being smart means you get to be serious all the time? This was very informative and I love the charisma and humour added too. Bro just earned himself a new subscriber.
I don’t know if this accounts for a lot but drinking tea can also help your mental health because it’s very calming to drink warm drinks, and stress has a huge impact on health !!
Yes finally! People are starting to appreciate tea more for its numerous health benefits! I got into tea at the start of the year and have not looked back since. I have done some of my own research on these benefits and the more I dig around the more amazed I am at how good this beverage is for overall health. Like mentioned in the video about how tea drinkers are at lower risk of diabetes, studies have also shown that tea contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties which can do wonders for the body. I even read tea has no negative side effects whatsoever so I can be guilt free when I enjoy my delicious English breakfast tea every morning!
I love English breakfast tea in the morning, but have you tried any other types of tea? Black tea is by far the most common, but I would highly recommend experimenting and trying out different ones to make the most of their own unique benefits! Online I have read that black tea is a good source of caffeine and it has properties that support a healthy immune system which is great but let me introduce you to white tea. White tea has a delicate flavor but it contains no caffeine so this could be something you drink before going to bed. Research has shown it is the most effective tea in fighting various cancers because it has the highest level of antioxidants out Vucic 2 of all teas, and it can help your teeth with its high levels of fluoride. And that’s just one out of many others! I would also recommend trying green tea, herbal tea, and oolong tea. Let me know how it goes. 😊
I’ll have to give those a try, thanks for the recommendations! But to be honest I love tea the most because of the nature of its caffeine. It is a gentle boost of energy that leaves me feeling more awake for extended periods of time and I never feel like I am crashing when the caffeine effects wear off. According to articles I’ve read online, this is because the caffeine is slow releasing so the effects last longer at a rate where you feel awake rather than overly energized and this effect slowly decreases. So, I drink a tea that helps me stay awake but is there anything that can help me fall asleep?
Let me introduce you to chamomile tea. It is caffeine free and can come in many different flavors. It has a delicious herbal taste, and one cup of this stuff will have you ready for bed in no time. To really make the most of its effects I would recommend having a nightly routine where you drink a cup of chamomile at the same time every night before going to bed, so your body associates the taste with going to sleep. What I do is after my routine nightly shower I prepare a cup of chamomile tea and I head straight to bed once I finish it. This leaves me in a very relaxed state where I don’t even have to think about falling asleep, it just happens. If you want to achieve effortless sleep and maintain a healthy sleep schedule every night then I highly recommend chamomile tea.
We need more people on this planet like you guys. Most people don’t realize how good of a drink tea is to have every morning or even at nighttime before bed. I hope you guys have a great day of feeling wide awake and sleep like rocks tonight after a cup of chamomile.
As far as increased life span in green tea drinkers, I wonder if those who drink it generally make other lifestyle choices that also contribute to a longer lifespan?

@@mcozy333 True climate and agricultural wise Asia has other great plants and herbs that are utilized in cooking that can help contribute to an overall better diet and lifestyle. That's why you typically see people who live in those regions with really long hair or great youthful skin. It really just has to do with your geographic region and sometimes culture. However, you can find a lot of the same great teas and foods sold within the country in a local market or shop. It's just that most people aren't familiar with what the herbs/teas are.

I just had my BP tested, 62/98. I used to be 75/117. I also had blood drawn for a health insurance policy, and found VERY low levels of bad cholesterol. The largest change I had, was starting as an airline pilot. I usually get 1-2 cups of green tea per flying day from the flight attendants. It makes me focused, keeps my flying smooth, and with the added walking at the airport - has been a huge boost to my health. I've even gone from 145 to 139lbs at 5'7". The stuff is magic almost.
Nice one! Actually, the reason why soda is not good for you in excess (because I won’t be convinced to give up soda) is because of the high amounts of fructose you’re consuming. Fructose has been proven to be about as healthy as alcohol. While you’re safe to drive after a cup of soda, both soda and alcohol will harm your liver in eerily similar ways.
I was diagnosed with non alcoholic fatty liver. Balanced Diet + green tea +regular exercise and most importantly , a good night sleep! Now I feel really better like that what I felt 2mos before! Like the metallic taste is gone and I feel more energetic, lively and better than before!
I enjoy Japanese green tea daily because it's refreshing stimulating and emotionally calming at the same. I traded out soft drinks for green tea 🍵. Green tea won't measure up to beverage industry hype but based on scientific research and thousands of years of use it is a excellent choice. I cannot go wrong with green tea. Thank you Doctor for this informative video 📹 👏.
I am Japanese female and my parents are 85 and 88 and have been drinking green tea all their lives everyday when they get thirsty. Unlike myself, they have very high HDL so I decided to drink green tea to reduce my LDL and boost my HDL . It took me 6 months to really prefer drinking green tea to water. I usually use organic powder green tea. I also started exercising every other day and I have lost a lot of weight without being so hungry. I wonder if green tea made the difference. Anyway, please make green tea a habit. Shizuoka Prefecture is known for their production of green tea and has the highest consumption of green tea in Japan. Studies show the people living there are the healthiest and live longest. Good green tea will really be green. I don't know why but the green tea bags sold outside Japan usually make yellow colored tea. Maybe the tea leaves are too dry and the water too hot. The bitterness of green tea is the catechin.
Green tea melts fat off of me better than anything I’ve tried, it’s amazing. I wonder if that means it also has certain other increased effects on my body type. Any ideas?
This is why my family uses green tea, the recipe my mother taught me was use rosemary and thyme leaves, I like it both bitter and sweet, the only time I add honey is to drink for desire and taste, When I drink it bitter is when I use it for necessities and for healing

I can vouch to the "burning fat" portion... 1. Right after a full (or even an overindulging) meal, sipping a cup of green tea (or almost any other tea) makes me feel so hungry again. It's like I haven't eaten yet! 2. A few days before a "special occasion", all I need to do is drinking tea with every meal, then I would feel ready and "in shape" for the gathering! especially when there's no time to exercise...Strange huh?
He meant you want to let it cool a bit before you make your cup of tea. Black teas are fine at 190-212F, but green tea is best with the water between 160-180F, depending on the exact type/etc. The water is still plenty hot, but green tea can't handle it at fresh boiling temperature.
I was going to comment the same! It helped me alone to lose weight and teaming up with a good workout has helped to just go half of my size... without lots of saggy skin

Green tea is great! Started drinking it to reduce mental strain and depression in conjunction with a melatonin/L-Theanine supplement. I used prescription stimulants for years and my bp was through the roof. I drank tea for awhile as I was coming off the meds to naturally help the detoxification process. I stopped for awhile but only recently started again when my sleep became erratic. I enjoy it.
I'm so happy I live in Japan. Green tea is really easy to get from vending machines. The reason to why I want to try green tea? I have pretty bad breath and it's not even my fault. I always try brushing, but because I have a small jaw with large teeth, it's really almost impossible to brush all of my teeth and avoid plaque. I also have a gag reflex that doesn't help at all. Hopefully green tea can solve or at least help my situation. Thanks doctor!!

I've never been a tea fan. But today I drank green tea. I would say black tea because it looks black. So I was making milk tea for my mom, while boiling the water and tea, I thought that it's healthy. I strained it and added more water and some sugar and drank it. Since I added more water, it was less concentrated and cold. The tast was bad. But bearable. I only drank it because I heard that tea is good for your brain and I'm starting with some healthy habits like light workout, meditation, proper food, mind activities etc. I hope to maintain the good habits. I once drank less concentrated black coffee too, but I'll always prefer it with milk.

Hello Doc Mike! Thank you for this informative video. I've been drinking green tea every morning since I was 18 years old, I am now 19. I started drinking green tea because I've read some articles that it is good for the skin blemishes like acne. I've been eating less now because I feel already full because of drinking this. And I've also noticed that it helps me focus whenever I'm studying or at class. And now I'm convinced to drink green tea for the rest of my life because of your video 😂 PS: I wanted to be a doctor like you in the future. I'm currently taking my pre-med course. Wish me luck! 💗
As a long time Japanese tea drinker i would recommend anyone interested to buy an electric water boiler with different temperature settings. High quality Japanese sencha requires maximum 80 Celsius brewing temperature and can go as low as 60-64 Celcius for Gyokuro green tea. Brewing green tea with boiling water will not only destroy the nutrients like Doc said but will also mae the green tea taste bitter and terrible.
@@frenchy7103 You could do it that way- the traditional way- and cool the tea by transferring the liquid between cups. Alternatively, just do what i mentioned above and buy a kettle that hearts the liquid to different temperatures.
@@frenchy7103 Personally I "boil" the water until there's little bubbles sticking to the bottom of the pot and no more. Then again, I'm working with possibly the cheapest and lowest-quality type of green tea known to man, so idk.
I have to be careful with green tea, because I'm sensitive to caffeine. I drink it occasionally still when I'm really tired, and I love green tea. I drink Japanese Ito-en brand, and it's the best
Do NOT brew green tea at boiling!! It needs to be brewed at 80 degrees Celsius, otherwise you burn the leaves and it tastes bitter AF. For best results, poor your 80C water into your cup/pot and BEFORE adding your tea leaves, rinse them under cool/warm tap water. Not all green teas are equal either. Matcha is the best for caffeine over regular green tea but the good quality stuff is very expensive (if your not going to get good quality, just buy normal green tea). There also different tea grades, based on how they dry the leaves, which affects the caffeine in the leaves. I love T2 tea. They have heaps of different tea blends for all peoples tastes.
I've been drinking 3 quarts of iced green tea a day for a few years. I cold brew it in the refrigerator, never with hot water. Cold brewing doubles the catechins and halves the tannins and caffeine.
@@sammie1934 I cold brew my green tea 12 to 24 hours in the refrigerator. I use Davidsons lemon ginseng green tea in boxes of unwrapped bags without tags, 100 to a box. I use 2 boxes a month.
@@kzy7182 Honestly, I just don't know. If you prefer it hot, I suggest you heat it up until it is just warm enough to your liking. I don't think it should be boiled.
I switched from coffee/pop/energy drinks to green/white/black tea about 10 years ago. It's true about the healthy mouth. I used to have a lot of cavities from eating a lot of pizzaj and drinking mountain dew. I haven't had a new cavity in at least two years. I've tried to convert so many people over but they just love their fizzy high-fructose corn syrup and coffees.
Def the fizzy drinks that are the main culprit there especially energy drinks they are really bad for you , some coffee is also healthy but in moderate doses , stains your teeth though for sure

That camera change in the beginning was adorable
Research has shown it is the most effective tea in fighting various cancers because it has the highest level of antioxidants out
Vucic 2
of all teas, and it can help your teeth with its high levels of fluoride.

Me: Getting rid of the rust.

One doubt should I drink green tea after 30mins taking meals?
Bro burning fat likely isn't what's making you feel hungry after having green tea.
Do not put boiling water directly on the green tea. That's what you did at the beginning.
He meant you want to let it cool a bit before you make your cup of tea. Black teas are fine at 190-212F, but green tea is best with the water between 160-180F, depending on the exact type/etc. The water is still plenty hot, but green tea can't handle it at fresh boiling temperature.

So how do you make it? Could you cool the water first and then put it over the teabag
