Just so the prostreets don't goto waste I usually put the stock rear end I cut off onto the chassis for that Nova or Chevelle and build a street machine out of them, or stock. It adds to the builds and you can even sell your finished work for recouping a few dollars towards your next build. Great for paint practice on the bodies as well.
I USED A 65 MALIBU SS KIT AND a dragster kit and did the tubs in the 65 malibu it came out so cool i used the dragster rear axle the tubs the wheels and tires
Question...when you mated the two chassis together, did you use styrene or a special type of glue to strengthen the parts together? You didn't elaborate on how that process went once you cut the 66 Nova's chassis...I'm going to use it with the 68 Hemi Dart model. I would really like some help on this.
Anther enjoyable, educational video Doctor. Now you have given me another project to look forward to doing. Thank you for all of your time and efforts.
What we have here is failure to styrenicate... LOL Classic DC. Classic. I do have a question. Do you strengthen the chassis at all? I was wondering about drilling a 0.080 hole and pushing some 0.080 brass rod down the guts of the join. Thoughts?
Great video Doc, did you know that the AMT 57 Chevy Street Maching (Blue Car on the box) has a tubbed chassis and 4 link set up. I will check tomorrow but it might be a drop in on the Tri-Five cars
Thanks for this Doctor. Always wondered how it works. 2 questions: How do you know what tub will work with what frame when planning? And I know you use the epoxy to glue pieces. Do you use it to marry frame parts as well? Or something stronger (gorilla glue maybe). I've tried this before and the frame always breaks with the Testors orange tube glue and even tried the purple CA but the frame comes apart at the join. Any help would be appreciated.
Can you do this to the 1950 Chevy 3100? I was looking at your top 10 list and really want to build that model but on ones I have seen finished look kind of high in the rear end.
i have a hard time sometimes when putting the interior tub in the body it wont seat properly when everything is complete and the frame wont seal makes the car look too far up
Would this work if I put the tub of the nova on a 1969 camaro? Just checking befor I buy all the stuff for it and find out it dosint fit lol... thanks :)
Hey there MY ROCKIN ROLL TUBBIN IT MAN ,,like your groove on the end of your vid it sounds great and thanks for giving me a mention ,how i can repay u for all your shout outs ,,i,m workin on your words at the momentm looks like another late early morning here in melbourne oz ,,great how to do vid ,,makes it all so much clearer to howto tub ,,i will do it this way on my chevy bel air ,,ok back to the drawing board ,and doc you sound cool ,cheers jeff ,,,,
If I remember right the first version of the 66 Nova Pro Street the yellow car on the box. The instructions saiid it is a drop in on the AMT 55 Chevy. I am going to test this theory later
Hey Doc, Love the vids, I have learned lots from you(Thanks). Quick tip please....What do you use to mock-up so the parts stay in place while you work but comes apart easily. Always looking forward to future stuff, Thanks!!!
Just those tires and thats really it... I would like some rims and tires for a rat rod i have planned that is coming in the mail in a week or two, looking for some rolls rims and tires
Duuuuude..been thinking bout gettn back into building scale models....back in my "yute"..these 1/25kits waz like 10 bones...whaaat happned..???been dabb'n whit hot wheels and matchbox..but..can't get that detail your 160 plus model cars and trokas of yours in that vid you made...i notice the differance from rattle can paint jobs...to air brush.....gonna smash my piggy and get back to havng fun with this hobby...thanks for sharing dude...
how would you marry the prices together. an how or whst i use to do so , plus how , an whst use to cut the tubbed car off with ..., i hsve plain on mading a tubbed 90 foxbody coupe
charles garvey You try to cut straight and then glue the parts together making sure you've measured correctly where the center of the wheels is going to fall inside each tub.
Awesome tip doc, can't wait to see more on the del ray. Phantom gasser...hmmmm, maybe you wanna race my 51 henry j....lol!! Awesome projects & tips, don yost does beautiful work. Kutgw, peace!!
I have a 67 Impala & I want to use a pro street 67 Chevelle wheel tub . From the look's of this It will work just fine ! I also have a 56 Del Ray that I'm thinkin of using a wheel tub from a Hot Rod Lincoln M K V! . Same scale 1/24 ' but I think I may have to add to the back as the trunk of the Lincoln is maby 3/4 inch shorter tan the Del Ray . Another project In the works Is a 64 Richer Petty Belvidere that I bought at a garage sale w/ a beat up 70 super bee ' but the Tub's & frame are fine . I want to make this into a # 43 Tribute Pro Street car ' as all the decal's are in good shape !!
Nice! Loving the tips, keep them coming. I'm cheap, I use 20 ounce bottle tops cut in half and added to the original chassis, cause I'm cheap. Ha ha. It works pretty well.
Mark Walsh Thanks, man. We appreciate the shout out and support. We are always recruiting more CRANKYHEADS. If you build models, you should open a TH-cam channel and start sharing your work. Cheers, DC
it's easy to tub the frame that came with the 56 you cut up 2 good cars for nothing the chevelle and the nova to good kits used for parts makes no sense to me
Just so the prostreets don't goto waste I usually put the stock rear end I cut off onto the chassis for that Nova or Chevelle and build a street machine out of them, or stock. The 66 nova chassis fits perfect under the 65 chevelle
Hey Doc, around 4:59 you mention a "Spiffing pen". Did I hear that correctly? Either way, what is it?
I USED A 65 MALIBU SS KIT AND a dragster kit and did the tubs in the 65 malibu it came out so cool i used the dragster rear axle the tubs the wheels and tires

Do u use the 41 wills truck frame for the front end
have a question, what we do now that chrome tech usa is out of business & need to have parts chromed
Anther enjoyable, educational video Doctor. Now you have given me another project to look forward to doing. Thank you for all of your time and efforts.
would it be easier to have the 3D printed for other models
Hey buddy just want to thank you for sharing your knowledge I was surfing your videos and I'm getting ready to start a tubbed Camaro take care Doc
What we have here is failure to styrenicate... LOL Classic DC. Classic. I do have a question. Do you strengthen the chassis at all? I was wondering about drilling a 0.080 hole and pushing some 0.080 brass rod down the guts of the join. Thoughts?
What kind of glue do you use for this mod?
Thanks DC. I have been trying for a long time to do a custom drag car/pro-streeter. Thanks for the clinic!
Nice info and video! But those round black things you call wheels are called 'tires'!
LOL, thanks for the clarification. Best, DC
What do you use as glue to hold the two parts together Doc? Please respond as I am getting ready to try this. Thank you.
Tamiya Extra Thin cement.
Can you make a video on switching the front chassis for different engines for different builds?
Great video Doc, did you know that the AMT 57 Chevy Street Maching (Blue Car on the box) has a tubbed chassis and 4 link set up. I will check tomorrow but it might be a drop in on the Tri-Five cars
Hey do you know anywhere you can get a resin tubed chassis
Thanks for this Doctor. Always wondered how it works.
2 questions:
How do you know what tub will work with what frame when planning?
And
I know you use the epoxy to glue pieces. Do you use it to marry frame parts as well? Or something stronger (gorilla glue maybe). I've tried this before and the frame always breaks with the Testors orange tube glue and even tried the purple CA but the frame comes apart at the join.

+Matthew Caruk Two part epoxy is strong enough, and then I brace with styrene. Test fitting is the only way to make sure things will fit.
Can you do this to the 1950 Chevy 3100? I was looking at your top 10 list and really want to build that model but on ones I have seen finished look kind of high in the rear end.
Do I have to buy a whole kit for the tubs or does someone make the tubs?
i have a hard time sometimes when putting the interior tub in the body it wont seat properly when everything is complete and the frame wont seal makes the car look too far up
Very very nice. I plan on using this tip in the future.
great how-to..I was going to ask about how to cut the frame but you cover that at the end...GREAT VIDEO DOCTOR
I am Tubbin' It! I have a few that I will be doing this too
looks like I need to buy more 66 nova's
Would this work if I put the tub of the nova on a 1969 camaro? Just checking befor I buy all the stuff for it and find out it dosint fit lol... thanks :)
It should. I think Donn Yost has done this.
Hey there MY ROCKIN ROLL TUBBIN IT MAN ,,like your groove on the end of your vid it sounds great and thanks for giving me a mention ,how i can repay u for all your shout outs ,,i,m workin on your words at the momentm looks like another late early morning here in melbourne oz ,,great how to do vid ,,makes it all so much clearer to howto tub ,,i will do it this way on my chevy bel air ,,ok back to the drawing board ,and doc you sound cool ,cheers jeff ,,,,
i find it easier to trim the pro chassis to fit the bodies i want to use, instead of making my own chassis, depending on the look i'm trying to get.
Another great Clinic! Thanks Doc! Take it easy.
Ouch!! I take it the Nova Kits I seen in the Fire Sale have the Tubs and rear ends cut out of them? "all of Them Doc"??
Thank you for the idea.
Dc, are you available?
LOL, most of them, but I have a few left with the tubs intact. And I am keeping a few as well.
Ok. Forget it, I tried. Lol take care.
Hey DC, could you possibly send me the rear tires from the nova? I accidently traded them lol
I use poster tack or tape. It will work well.
Inspirational doc. You should get paid for these
Just those tires and thats really it... I would like some rims and tires for a rat rod i have planned that is coming in the mail in a week or two, looking for some rolls rims and tires
Great video but could you make a video showing how you cut the pieces. It's always nice to see the process.
+Samuel Vasquez I will. Thanks.
