I was always called a slow learner from my teachers and from family and I say that about myself. I had no idea that dyslexia had all these other symptoms. I am like 90% sure I have dyslexia. My only question is why haven’t any teacher diagnosed me with it? I am 26 years old, I struggled in school my whole life and almost didn’t even graduate. Why am I just hearing about this now?? I am literally so shocked I have no words. Thank you for making this video.

My first language was Spanish but when I entered school I was taught to speak English. Now that I am older I have trouble speaking both languages. I barely can’t speak or even write Spanish. My English is way better though but I have trouble reading out loud and writing and sometimes even understanding things but I have a pretty good memory. Anyways many teachers forced me to take lower/special classes for like my whole elementary and middle school year. I know they were just trying to help me out but for my whole life I felt small I felt like I was dumb slow and just unteachable. I was always frustrated with myself and I was always disappointed with myself but I knew I didn’t belong too these types of classes so when I started high school I told myself that I had to make big changes for myself. So I did I got myself out of those classes and put myself in some Ap classes and graduated with straight A’s which was crazy because many teachers didn’t believed that I would have gotten this close to graduate in my life they believed mostly like that I would have dropped out but I didn’t. But then something happened in my life which I was so mad about. Throughout my whole life I struggles with learning and understanding in school but I worked really hard and never quit. It bothered me so much to be looked down on by other students and even teachers like in my being years of sophomore year I had this English teacher that literally told my counselor that I didn’t belong in her classes because this new teaching program (ERWC) would be difficult for me to understand and teach. Note this the teacher never asked me anything about her class like if I had issues or if I needed help and so one day my counselor called me into her office and told me that if I wanted to switch out because teachers recommended me to switch out because it might be too difficult for me to be in her class I was like why? I so confused because I had a B in her class so I told my counselor how would I have a problem learning in that class if I’m passing it. I couldn’t believe it I was so mad because I was so quick to be judged cause of my learning disability like I didn’t even wanted to tell my parents because it would only make them worry more for me so this class had me so stressed out and anxious all the time but I passed her dumb class with a A+ and I wanted to saying something to the teacher at the end of that year’s but I didn’t and I regret it so much. Anyways I was doing the impossible passing all my classes every year with straight A’s then I got close to graduation and boom COVID-19 happened and I never got an actual graduation and actually experience the moment of graduating and just being so proud of myself and happy for myself like all that hard work was just for nothing. It was a shame because I suffered a lot throughout my school year and I never truly got to see my hard work payed off (I graduated this year 2020). Anyways it’s doesn’t matter anymore to me the point is no matter how much you fail or obstacles god puts you through never stop believing in yourself because one day you are going to look back and see how successful you can become. Don’t let people label you or put you down in a category just because you have trouble doing things or understand just be yourself and keep your head up. I hope someone read this and be inspired because I know I am dyslexic but it’s not going to stop me from being successful in life. I’m happy that I fail and struggle in life because I can always learn from my mistakes and become better. I hope one day I could help out people with leaning disabilities like myself and just left them up from there struggles in life.

I'm 19, but I found out I was dyslexic when I was about 8 years old. I kind of forgot about it until middle school because it never really became a part of my identity. I knew language arts was always gonna be difficult, especially taking notes as fast as everyone else & the dreaded reading :( . Eventually, I just got over it, ya know like this is gonna be the rest of my life so I might as well figure out what I like and stick to it.
Luckily I like math and am pretty good at sports, so that keeps me occupied. Also, half way through high school I left, and went to do online/home school. I would recommend this to anyone, I mean it, without the distractions of other students and the fear (your fear)/hesitation. I went from a 'B'/'C' student to a 3.75 my junior year (because I had 1 'B'), and graduated as a valedictorian for my class. Basically I have just accepted that life will be a little bit harder for me in these areas, and by accepting I no longer have that fear of reading aloud, or even something ridiculous like being afraid of passing on your jeans.

I am borderline dyslexic it turns out. I have like 4.5 of these. In that a few of them are "sorta" answers. Had I been tested as a kid, I would have definitely been labeled dyslexic. But I think after years of just writing stories, a novel and screenplays, I kinda broke a lot of my habits or at least broke them down. Had my parents not been poor migrants who worked all day and had no time for their kids, they may have spotted it. Hell, I was not fully convinced until I recently started doing voice narration and noticed I think of other words when I read. I feel though, narrating my videos is getting better. Writing more and more helps, but words I don't often use are the ones I misspell. Like neighbor, I never get that word right. Ah well. I am who I am, along with Anxiety, I now have Dyslexia to boot. Made it to 40 this way, may as well keep going.

ohh man! I'm super dyslexic! I also always get left and right mixed up when talking. Even up and down, or increase and decrease sometimes... I am surprised because I never had issues studying... the fact that I can only read very slow has helped my to think faster than what I can read. Maybe I am just lucky that I chose a technical field.

I've always had trouble with math. I have most of the things she explained. We lack of confidence cause, humanity is cruel and we have observed this it is why we try to keep it to ourselves. I still don't know how to cope with it, found out about it in a class in college and my parents never knew about. It is difficult to cope with some times specially when you are talking in one language and thinking on another to top it with a cherry.

I'm sixty, I teach, and I only recently figured out that I have dyslexia. Like everyone, I thought reversing letters (which I don't do) was the big sign; however, everything else you described fits me. I write my lessons and agenda on the whiteboard, and I do all of the writing before the students come in so that I can correct my (always) spelling errors. I don't reverse letters; I drop them. I can't remember where to double letters, and I leave out parts of speech or, often entire words. I sometimes use the wrong word - like Stream of Conscience or is it Stream of Consciousness? I've always been embarrassed by it. I write in all caps. I cover up my spelling errors by using synonyms for words I can't spell off the top of my head. Sometimes I deliberately make my writing illegible in hopes no one will notice my errors. I constantly rely on spell check. At the museum, I'm always the last guy to finish reading the plaque; sometimes I just skip ahead so I can finish with everyone else (but then I miss things). I read for pleasure and my comprehension is fine so I had no idea; I just read slowly. I've read Don Quixote, Le Misérables, Moby Dick, Atlas Shrugged, The Sound and the Fury, the Bible, and on and on; I think that's why I never suspected dyslexia. I will add: my childhood was a living hell because in addition to dyslexia, I now know that I have dyscalculia, and ADHD and none were ever diagnosed until recently. God damn it, I wish someone would have helped me.

I also write fairly well, though I do obsess over catching mistakes when I write so that may be it. I also mix up words out loud and have to say it several times until I get it right. I likely don't have it, but if I did have it the speech therapy I went to when I was younger helped.

I add words, leave out words, for get names, leave out letters but as I correct them , it’s like I’m playing a game of word scramble lol or word puzzle but that not all the time through out the day . I’ve had trouble finding words on a list, but I can scan read and remember color codings and highlights. But I don’t have an issue reading , but my eyes seem to often get lost but only when I’m reading out loud. Yes I do rely on auto correct, even for words that are bigger because I can’t remember ( as many times I’ve spelled it doesn’t count lol) . But the strange thing is, give me a word, any word, I’ll need pen and paper and to sound out vowels n syllables, and I’ll likely get it correct 😂

Don't give up hope, a tutor that I was sent to for a bogus reason when I was in third grade picked up on my difficulties with reading multi syllable words, I'd figure out a word then assume the same word if I was shown a word that started the same syllable. Her suggestions were 1) read, read, read all kinds of different things to increase my vocabulary and 2) after each sentence ask myself if that made sense, if not then take my time rereading it to see where I went wrong. That vocabulary helps me make an educated guess at many words without actually trying to see and interpret each word. I still get a laugh misreading things. Spell check is a god send but sometimes both it and Google can't figure out what word I'm trying to spell - that vocabulary often let's me figure out a different word that I can use and get the spelling close enough.
ASD, ADHD, ODD, OCD and dyslexia along with a higher IQ all before the current diagnosis criteria and understanding of these differences.
Strange how the algorithms keep this video popping up every few years 😊

I dont particular have issues with memorising the spelling of words but I have issues interpreting texts and i was and still am a slow reader. It has always been frustrating not to be able to understand texts in the first couple of attempts and I have to read them for at least 3,4 times before they start to make sense. I hadnt realised this may be dyslexia until the last couple of days when i heard about it.
In addition i do see letters transposed (seeing politic instead of polite etc.) and Ive always had issues with following series of instructions/directions

21 years old, I cant read my own hand writing. I am late as always, and have been scolded by teachers. I struggle taking notes, because they were to fast.
At home when I try to study, my notes are half emtpy, and I cant read the letters. Usually I make the alphabets Captial. Makes my confidence good. I misspell world's alot. I cant memorize a page, a pharagraph. I cant memorize multiplication table.
At online school, I usually read tbhe words very carefully. Passing it late always because I struggle. I knew I studied and remembered the words.
When I write down my answers, it I got wrong. And when I reread the words, I dont get why I was wrong. Some words shifted after I reread. Struggle :/

Ok but how do you know if you're just a poor speller, have bad memory or are dyslexic, I only have issues with words like except, or necessary, sometimes I'll spell necessary, neccessary instead and expect looks a lot like except you know I know the difference but it just takes a little longer then I guess it should, I used to switch i's and e's still have to keep in mind "i before e except after c" (wish someone would have taught me this earlier) because I can get confused. I could just be a horrible speller or have a bad memory. I don't know if it's dyslexia but it really would explain a lot I have 5 or more symptoms but most of my issues seem ...normal (Is that offensive).

I would find it difficult to count money back or do anything with numbers. While I was a cashier a co-worker saw I made mistakes with numbers and said "I think you have dyslexia" and I was WHY DID I NEVER THINK OF THAT??? I'm a little bit better reading than writing. I might be a little slow reading. Sometimes I read a little faster if I have something under the words like a ruler or something or follow with my finger. I tested that out and I did a lot better. And I sound some words out or if I never seen a word. But if I'm reading that kind of know what that word is pretty quickly, just what the subject is.. then hopefully it just sinks in and I start remembering what that word is or how it's spelled. But now spelling might be a little difficult. But that's to the same thing. If you spell it enough times you should get a little used to it. Sometimes when I see a number might say it backwards or look at it backwards before I write it down. I always double check , like I see the number but when I start putting it on paper or text etc. Sometimes I might have them arranged differently. Not all the time but it happens. Sometimes I say the number a few times before I go to my table or something at work and keep thinking about it till I write it down. I think I'm okay with names and no faces . Like one person at a time lol. Don't put me in a group. I probably won't remember all five people. Maybe two if it's a common name. But for some reason I can remember what movie came out 1992 or something LOL or some minor things if I'm being trained on something but then forget something easy but that's probably a different issue LOL. So I don't know if I'm dyslexic because I'm not a fast reader and a poor speller. I could do pretty good but I use Google for certain words that I don't at use or never used
