An important note. The Linux currently has no artwork scraping via WiFi and no software update service via WiFi. This is a pretty major oversight from Anbernic and will once again have to be fixed by the community with customer firmware 😬
Everybody talks about how Russ has established this retro handheld community, but Adin, you may very well bring it together. The interviews you do, the calling out of various TH-camrs in your videos, you might be the jump start to the community that it needs.
Got mine today. I knew I would like it, but when I put my thumb on the dpad it was 1994 again and I had just purchased my sega nomad. I'd always loved my game boy, Game Gear, and atari lynx so much. Portable gaming was very much my thing. Having a Portable Genesis was a dream come true. I still have my original nomad but I've stopped using it as much to try to preserve it as much as i can. A few years ago I got into Portable emulation. Being a huge sega fan, I've ALWAYS wanted a more sega inspired handheld. Now here it is. Thirty years later I have my Nomad 2. All this is missing for me is the sega logo. The dpad is the highlight for me. To me it's flawless. Really unbelievable. So glad you did a review of this system and also happy you've received what you've been waiting for too. Keep up your wonderful work. Cheers!
Thanks for those kind words. If you want some serious nostalgia play some game gear games! And watch this space I am sure SakuraRetroModding will be all over this device with stickers and mods.
I think the accent helps. It likes hearing UK or Australian. There is something about a completely different accents speaking perfect English that hits the ears right.
This intro is one of your best, i love the context it give to this specific device and parts of the world youtubers nearly never mention, even if they have a huge player base. I asked Santa one for my Christmas gift, can’t wait to live 1991 Christmas again!
Fantastic video and i'll admit the Anbernic Arc gives me all the retro feels. I never owned a Sega growing up and now it feels like I can (even though it's not Sega of course). Great choice on the colour as well, that Black Sega Genesis/Saturn colour is mmmmm mmmmm ! I have the RGB30 and possibly an Anbernic Arc on its way for Christmas. It's going to be interesting to see which device I end up using more often ! Might just come down to the types of games i'll be playing. The RGB30 caught my interest for running vertical arcade games whereas the Arc seems to be THE device for standard < early 90's 4:3 consoles / arcades.
@@adinwallsyeah, the size is what I want. I’m not looking to pocket it, but would like to comfortably play around the house. Thanks for the great look at this device. I’ll have to of course pay extra for that sweet color scheme lol.
I ordered the clear black Linux only version but got he solid black version with Linux/Android. I think, with the reviews, most people are ordering the Linux only version so just to fill orders, rather than tell people to wait, they have sent some people the Linux/Android version rather than the Linux version. It made me happy because I wanted the solid black, I had a Nomad as a kid and wanted that over the transparent black, so I'm happy. I don't think I'll ever use the Android on it but I got the color I wanted!
You compared it to the rg353ps at 5:20 but isn't the screen here bigger? (I wish the rg353ps had a big screen like this) you should show both next to each other to compare the screen with gameplay
i ordered an rg353ps 2 weeks ago and still waiting for delivery.. I kind of wish the screen was BIG like this one. This device is really good value given the big screen@@adinwalls
Just got mine today and it has some unfortunate light bleed on the bottom right corner of the screen. Very distracting. Anyone else have this? I have never returned anything to Anbernic, any thoughts on what I should do? Thanks!
I would have preferred the Linux version but got the Android one offered cheaper AND with games. So I ordered the black one because I didn’t like the yellow tint on the Japanese colour variant. But, way ahead of you, I also ordered the M30 in grey to use it as an console once in a while. Could you show how you side-loaded Daijisho on it? Although I like Dweeb’s videos I still agree with you. Daijisho looks great. If it is not enough content for a video maybe add the steps to consolise it.
Well the Android version is the Linux version as well so no loss there. You either have Linux, or Linux AND Android, there is no version that has only android.
No, he's implying that he's been wanting for a proper portable Sega system like this ever since he was a kid. The actual development time on a product like this is probably around 6 months would be my guess, as I imagine this company can turn around new SKUs quite quickly.
This thing looks like it fucks. I want one nao! I mean im happy(😢) with the x6 retro handheld because of the game boy form factor. Really it seems to me the only thing holding back the x series line up of consoles IS no cfw options...at all. So if you are an idiot like me and flash the sd card without a back up, youre up the creek without a paddle.
Give me a device like this but with much more power under the hood for saturn emulation and an analog stick so it can work as a six-button N64 controller as well, and I'm sold. I love the design but the use case is just too limited, I feel.
Nah they can keep the analog sticks, the original Saturn Controller had none and you rarely needed the 3D Pad. I would only accept a Stick if it doesn't compromise this perfect 2D Setup, I'm with you with a better SoC though, overall smooth Saturn is the only thing that's missing for me.

Nope
Lol
I appreciate those kind words.
I want this for Sega roms only.
Great idea

@adinwalls Yes, definitely some game gear will be happening as well. I'm hoping you're right about Sakura. That would be the chefs kiss 👌
Adin's channel is quickly becoming the ASMR of the retro handheld world. :)
ASMR? Really? Do you mean the buttons pressing and all that? I will have to get a quieter studio to pull that off successfully
Lovely video as usual, but tbh sound was clipping pretty hard on Adin's voice in this one
I think the accent helps. It likes hearing UK or Australian. There is something about a completely different accents speaking perfect English that hits the ears right.
@@adinwalls Mostly but your voice is rather soothing as well.
@sebastianwegscheider1318 wow could catch! I had some issues with background noise and pushed the limiter a bit too hard to try and boost my voice.
The button layout and dpad alone make this device a no brainer for me, playing street fighter on the go with 6 buttons is what I've wanted for so long
Ya I think a lot of us feel that way
The the rolling dpad for all those hadukens too, lol

I asked Santa one for my Christmas gift, can’t wait to live 1991 Christmas again!
Thanks Thibault. I couldn’t believe it when I looked up the MegaDrive launch date. And then realising how expensive cartridges were for that era.
i have to wait till christmas for mine.i have an sd card ready full of sega games
Ah cool. Such a fun handheld
Here right away in the morning!
Yeeha
I agree! This device is superb.
It is indeed
Tell this to all the Anberhaters.

I think you’re going to love this thing! Yes this Sega colour scheme is perfect.
If you're big on fighters, this is the best setup
Arc is dope👍
Will wait for the next version of this with more power, but it looks so good! 🍻
I’m not sure there will be another one of these
@@adinwalls you may be right, but all these companies revise and release certain models. Will hope for a version 2! 🙏🏻
@@tonyrosario1940 If the Arc takes off then without a doubt other companies will make a similar 6 button device
@@WDPhotographyhonestly don’t really like budget devices from other companies😔
Was set on getting rgb30 and now this looks so good also. Mostly want to play RPGs and platformers on gba, snes, genesis, ps1
Well if you don’t mind the size, this may be a better option than the RGB30

Will there a follow up long term review btw?
Definitely
Batocera does run the EmulationStation frontend with RetroArch. Linux distros for emulation often have both.
That explains my confusion 😊

how do you get better performance ?
it seems to lag with Saturn emulation
and thats why i got one :/

Hey there. Maybe first reach out to Anbernic but it sounds like a simple fix. The glue in that part of the screen probably came loose.
I love the design, but I have waaay too many devices with exactly same cpu
Yes for a collector that’s a good point. But that nostalgia is pretty hard to beat.
@@adinwallsagreed, and I am still waiting for clambernic If that's even a real thing 😁
How do you make a backup of the Linux OS sd card in case the card goes bad, don’t trust this card
This one or retroid pocket 2s ?
2s unless you’re a big Sega fan
Wow nice

so they took 34 years of making this product? wow!! hence the title of this video

N64 games don’t start in lynux emulators section 😢
It should!
I wanted my RG-ARC to be Black but Anbernic sent me the Sega Saturn one instead. 😥
Isn’t the Sega Saturn black?
