The chip isn't good enough for b3D saturn games.
I have a system similar to that I got it for $49 and I love 😯😯☺️☺️🤔🤔🤔?????!!!!!🎮🥷
I agree, every controller should have 6 face button and still have the 4 L and R buttons. 6 face buttons are absolutely needed for fighting games.
This is dope I may actually pick this up just bc of the Saturn controller form factor!
You would be all on the Sega side. Master system, genesis, 32x, Sega CD, and Saturn.
Would love to see some Saturn and N64 tested out if possible.
N64 without Analog Stick/D Pad only ain’t cool
Astal actually boots up and Sakura Wars doesn't flicker. I bought the Arc-S so linux only but out of box Saturn and PSP emulation are definitely improved.
See if it runs KI Gold. Perfect for this device if it runs good
@derekfcc tried it. Not recommended unless you enable frame skip for KI Gold.
He literally goes into a Saturn game four minutes into the video
While I haven't been interested in picking up most retro handhelds since they keep flying out, I might get one of these since it's rare to see a 6-face button layout, especially themed after a Sega controller. But I wish it had a better chip to play Saturn games at better fps though.
Hopefully they make a second version of this
That blue looks sooooo DOPE DUDE!!!!😮
This thing looks so sick! Thanks for the showcase. Looking forward to more Saturn testing.
This looks like a must have for fighting game fans.
Thanks for sampling Street Fighter III Third Strike and Street Fighter Alpha 3, MLP!! It’s looking pretty smooth.
I always wanted a combo handheld that could do Sega Saturn and Dreamcast full speed out of the box.
Check out the 405M. You get solid performance for both those systems.
Anbernic really should have thrown in a t618 in the Arc handheld - the damn thing is a Saturn controller, but can barely play the system 😭
at 640p lol.
@@oasisbeyond noice
@@oasisbeyondI'm pretty sure it's 640x480 which is 480p.
@@nerdloftgaming yeah, kind of feel the same way about the RG353P(s). (even though that can obviously do the SNES it's modeled after)
more handhelds should use Saturn button layout. It's easier tapping 2 trigger buttons then scrambling to hit 4 on the back of the machine.
I'm anxiously awaiting my system to arrive. Very excited!
I was just about to buy an old megadrive when they announced this for pre order i grabbed the black one should come next week. Perfect megadrive hand held can't wait. Thanks again for posting this i appreciate your honest opinion 👍
the saturn was my childhood, ive been eyeing this device for a while now.
I have it too, truly a no brainer for any SEGA or arcade fan
Man! thanks for letting me know, I was looking forward to this! I'm glad it's out!
my suggestion for rg-arc2 new feature will be:
1) use a steonger soc that can play dc/ps2/wii games smoothly
2) add analog sticks to select and start location and move these 2 buttons some where else.
3) change full size buttons and dpad just like the saturn one.
No don’t put analog sticks on it. If anything put a single one on for Dreamcast if it can play it
OH MY GOD, haven't seen this before and it looks so great!
I really wish it could of emulated Saturn and Dreamcast better, honestly its a bummer for me as a huge SEGA fan, imo that controller layout is the best
They're so close to getting my money. Make it so it can actually run Saturn and I'm buying it.
When they make this WITH an analog stick, I'm in.
I'm also biased towards 6 buttons for sega games. Trying to play 6 button sega games with the same old ps2 style layout sucks. Great review.
Please test 2D Sega Saturn games. All Anbernic devices have dual thumbsticks for 3D, all but this one. This thing is clearly a love letter to not only Sega fans but also 2D gaming in general.
So please, don`t give us another Sega Rally, Virtua Fighter and Die Hard Arcade Video. Make it Astal, Keyo YuGekiTai and Rockman X4 please...
*For those who prefer 3D retrogames, Anbernic sells the RG405M for that.
Been waiting to hear a review from you on this! It's the first emulation handheld I'm interested in as it looks perfect for MAME on the go!
This honestly feels like an ideal handheld to play Sega systems and arcade games. For the low price point, I might get it just for that. Nice video! Thanks for the content.
Woke up at 0500EST to order the black 256Gb D version. Looking forward to the 6 button larger form factor 4x3 aspect since I have Altered Beast sized paws and the other handhelds I have don’t cut it!
Sweet, just ordered one. Merry Xmas to me! Thanks for posting this one 👌👍
How are you getting on with it? What systems does it play well? Does Wii or gamecube stuff work?
@matt.willoughby I think it's great, especially for the price. I'd say it only plays games up to the Dreamcast generation so no gamecube or wii but I don't doubt we'll see a new version in the next few months with those consoles added.
Just got mine today and I love it!
If I can play Albert Odyssey or Shining the Holy Ark on the go I’ll be happy.
Dude this looks sick
If this was more expensive but did Saturn full speed it would be a NO BRAINER. Hopefully someone puts out the same form factor with a more powerful chipset.
I enjoyed this review. I'm on the fence about this handheld. On one hand I love Sega (because they do what Nintendon't) and having a handheld with their superior button + d-pad layout is one of those "It's about time!" sorts of things. On the other hand; I suspect the reason it doesn't have very many Saturn games pre-installed is because it's too weak to run them. IIRC; it's quite a bit harder to emulate Saturn than it is Dreamcast, despite the Dreamcast's better graphics, just because of how technically complicated the Saturn was. And it seemed to struggle with Dreamcast in this video. That fighting game looked okay; but, the sound was all sorts of broken sounding.
But; this should be amazing at Genesis, PS1 (people forget; but, analog sticks weren't standard at launch and 99.9% of PS1 games have a digital only controller layout), and some Android games. I love that it runs Android because that means I could use it as a mini tablet to save battery on my phone. It'll be excellent for streaming music with its WiFi and those dual speakers when people aren't around. And it has a headphone jack for when people are around. $1500 "smart"phones don't have that...
I really do like this Arc D. Enough to buy? I don't know. If it were part of the RG405 family and had the T618 + a couple of low profile analog inputs (like that RetroBit Saturn controller - or even just one like the Retro Fighters Brawler Sega controller) it'd be an instant purchase. I do know that if I somehow end up with an Arc D, as it is, for a lot less than $100 then I'll adore it. Anbernic really nailed the design and good vibes with this unit.
Nice review. Looking forward to the other model review.
Does this have android app store on
It is a great device, except switching back and forth between platforms is more convoluted than it needs to be. Maybe there are things I can do in the settings? Pardon me, I'm an older novice that likes things as easy and linear as possible.
Great video, mine just arrived with no game when you go to Amber mode ?
Been playing this over the weekend and haven't yet found much reason to use Android OS over Linux. Everything is much more user friendly with the default Linux that comes mounted on the SD card. Most emulation seems worse by default on Android although I gather it perhaps has more customisation available. Its much easier for most people to just dive into retroarch on Linux and have controls already mapped etc.
Does anyone know how to change hotkeys on the RG ARC? The frontend seems to over-ride the ability to save hotkey binds in the retro-arch menus, tried everything and I can't get Rewind to save after exiting out of each game.
These look awesome. Wish that cool blue was available on the nicer model though.
Nicer model's kinda not worth it. Android runs things worse across the board.
Reminds me of a new age game gear with additional bonuses. Gonna grab one eventually ❤
Gotta love Street Fighter the Movie. Id like to see it play WCW Revenge
Sega Saturn version of the sega nomad.
The Saturn Boy? Saturn Gear ?
Does this have the generation one Pokémon games?
I want the blue one too. Sonic The Hedgehog 2D portable game engine
So, this model can run GameCube and PS2 games?
Dreamcast at full speed? thanks.
looks nice. I suppose it doesn't work on AAA batteries. Can someone rec something similar that does work on regular ol batteries?
It's very cool....but, you can't play as much as much as other handhelds. I like using the analog sticks on shooters and I enjoy games on ppsspp.
Love that they made this. And hope they improve the design in the future
If they ever make an OLED model, I'm all over it!
The arc d have Naomi and atomiswave ?
How do you get into the Android mode on this device also I didn't think it had a touch screen
There's two versions. The Linux only model doesn't have a touchscreen and costs $20 less. The Dual Boot (Linux or Android) has a touchscreen because Android really struggles without either a touchscreen, trackpad, or mouse. I'm pretty sure it's the same part used in Anbernic's RG405 handhelds.
One thing I'm not sure about, because I don't own one, is how to toggle between OSes. I think I remember seeing it done in another review and there's buttons on the top that you hold on start-up to select which OS you want to boot into. I think...
No Saturn games?
I think I watched 6 or more videos of this handheld and every video, it's different versions of Street fighter pretty much. One of the last games I plan to play on a Sega focused Handheld is Street Fighter.
Thank you for addressing control options please blue tooth a controller to Arc-S in next video. Will Rondo Products Sega Saturn controller work with this? Thank you for the video.
Ambernic... if you're listening.... You're ALMOST THERE.
Clean up your build, and test your build... and you're gonna sell a lot of these.
Looks awesome cosmetically, I want a handheld MiSTer in this exact form factor 😂
or an analog pocket at the very least, although no Saturn on that 😢
Does seem great for the button mapping! I do wish they could have the same design, just with the screen up on top of it all. I love my Pocket, but I'm not gonna be playing Street Fighter on that thing in portable mode.
can it MVC2?
Tbh the device is good for everything expect N64 which is sad.
The idea of needing to sync another controller with blue tooth...to a controller/portable/handheld...My mind...its BEEN ROCKED HARD! lol Looks like a neat device though. very reminiscent of that suped up sega genesis controllers.
Way better than the one AtGames and Hyperkin made many years ago. Also Sega wasn't the only one having 6-buttons on the face of the controller, the N64 controller (having 6 face buttons and even keeping the shoulder buttons as well as having one trigger button on the back), the 3DO 6-button controller, the Turbo Grafx-16 6-button controller, and the Atari Jaguar 6-button controller all had it as well. Heck the Atari Jaguar 3-button controller if you don't count the number keypad is basically the same as the Sega Genesis 3-button controller. So at one time Nintendo did embrace Sega's idea for one generation, but with GameCube Nintendo jump back to returning the Y and X buttons and turning the C-buttons into a C-stick instead. If you think about it, only the failed systems (Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn, N64, 3DO, Atari Jaguar, Turbo Grafx-16, etc.) embraced having 6-buttons on the face, now you know why everything nowadays doesn't embrace having 6-buttons on the face of the controller anymore.
The Mega Drive wasn't really a failure. In fact, I would call It the only success SEGA ever achieved in the console market.
I wouldn't call the Sega Genesis a failed system. It sold 40 million units. Sure the SNES outsold it eventually at 49 million but for a while it did outsell Nintendo in the early 1990's.
How the f*ck was the genesis a "failed" system? You are clueless
@@skree_fpv436- and that was only because Sega abandoned the megadrive to focus on the saturn whilst nintendo were still releasing great titles like Donkey Kong Country 3 and Mario rpg. Whilst sega was actively supporting the megadrive, both consoles were basically neck and neck
Sega Genesis a failed system? Yeah.....no.
How was 32X performance? I seem to get really bad 32X performance.
You shouldnt have bad 32X performance on a device like this, 32X really doesnt require much and can run pretty well on even some of the cheapest and low spec devices.
woulda buy it in an instant, 6-buttons layout is the way for me... BUT.. it doesnt play Killer Instinct 1 or 2... such a missed opportunity :(
Without actually using one myself, this device seems almost perfect. I say almost because there's no analog sticks. I know it's meant to be reminiscent of the Sega Saturn, but given how some games supported the 3D Control Pad and/or the Saturn Twin-Stick, their exclusion seems lacking both within the realm of Saturn emulation and within the device's ability to run Android games. But would the L3 and R3 be mapped to the shoulder buttons or would they be standalone buttons?
It's not powerful enough to run Saturn games that use 3d
Love to see a 6 button option.
Emulation is the way to go
When they make an N64 controller themed one then I’ll be impressed 😂
Needs more Saturn roms
I agree; but, it probably can't run them adequately. Saturn games are pretty difficult to emulate due to just how complex the internals of the console were.
I just ordered one.
I wonder how Saturn runs on this device, that would be perfect for a Saturn Portable :)
Price needs to be under $100...
At this point I am solely looking for a device that can handle Sega Saturn games and this might be a pretty good option minus the analog stick.
Can anyone advice handheld that will run gamecube emulator with the screen aspect ration 4by3 ?
Anbernic's RG405 (V or M depending on preferred shape) and Retroid's Pocket 2S are going to be about it. The more powerful handhelds generally don't have a 4x3 screen and the weaker ones can't run GameCube. To be fair; neither of these can run the entire GC library either. They can run a decent amount though. Hopefully they'll be the games you want to play.
Wish they had a Transparent Red lol but I don't need it Ron lol.
Nice System, thought I saw PS2 in there how does it play PS2 games?
PS2 with this chipset is kind of pushing it, many things will run with low fps, some will run fine.. its a mixed bag with more not playable than playable. I wouldnt buy any rk3566 device with the thought of playing PS2 as it can really only handle the lowest demanding PS2 games ok.
This handheld looks cool but im thinking anbernic might have an updated model sometime next year. I do appreciate the quality of Anbernic but i wouldnt use this for ps2. The 256gb version for $144.00 isnt horrible. I wasted more than that on worse things than this. Im pretty undecided on this so im going to let the thought simmer.
those handhelds factories in china only have employee that playing nintendo in 80s-90s? what take them so long to come out sega inspired handheld?
i have sold all my previous miyoo and anbernic handhelds and keep only this one.... 😂
can it run fightcade?
thats the deal breaker
This handheld is sweet!
These handhelds are getting a little TOO specialized. Do we really need another handheld? One that specializes in sega games mostly?
Great man
I would get it just for the fighting games but I don't like the small buttons of the Sega controller personally.
I want this😍
who need anaglog pocket when you have rg-arc?😊
Oh, this looks like it could be good for sega games. I wonder how muc- A HUNDRED AND TWENTY BUCKS?! pass.
Too bad, was hoping the ROM set had BUG 😔🐛, BUG Too on 🛹 board ..My Dad would have liked it for the Nostalgia...Have the other Ambernic SNES version , with dual boot. Its ROM set 📐 had DC Revolt on it...And runs it very well without stuttering or any kind of weird under performance of any emulation software....
Thanks.
$180 here in UK lol
So the screens aren't the same then 😂
The extra gb is just so it can run Android, most emus actually perform better in Linux on this
I am interested in the ps2 games .
I want this 😊
Perfect? The Saturn games, which the handheld is styled after, run like crap!
😱🔥🔥🔥
Man, just one analog stick is the best Sega Saturn Sega Dreamcast. We need Sega hanheld powerfull console. Or Steam Deck, Lenovo, and just phone with Saturn controller.😒
look kind of thick
I couldn't stand the 8 bit and 16 bit era. You could never see more than the first 2 or 3 levels. Because you only got 3 lives and after that, you go back to the beginning. They don't at least let you continue where you left off. Oh, no. That's why I didn't care about gaming until PlayStation came out. You couldn't Really game back then and enjoy it without being professional and keeping your t v on all night And the system burning up. Just for someone to bump it and it restarts all the way to the beginning. Then you get so pissed off. You don't even want To pick the game up And try again because it takes forever Just to get to where you were. And that's only level 5.. Why they thought that was gaming back then. I would never know why they thought you had to only have 3 hits 3 lives and you had to restart all over again. After you lose all 3 of your lives. It's still annoying trying to play 8 bit games on original systems. Only way I can play them is through emulation with save states.
Rotatable screen or go home.
LCD screen is a no no
this is not the latest and its very weak compared to the 353 p
Dude... They both have the same exact RK3566 SoC inside.
