A little about me and this channel:
My name is James Aubrey IV and I just recently graduated college from Iowa State University. After college I decided to take a leap of faith. So I moved to San Diego California to pursue my passion for videography/ TH-cam. Overall I'm a pretty chill person, outside of TH-cam I like to longboard, dance, play video games, lift weights and hangout with my friends. I know that success on TH-cam won't happen overnight but I'm willing to stay patient and put in the work to try to prefect my craft daily. This TH-cam channel will be centered around my life after college. You will be able to see all of the ups and downs on my journey to success. So if you like the content make sure you subscribe so you can be apart of the Rome Life Family. (Let's build our own personal Rome's together.)
What is the Rome Life ? And What does it mean to be apart of it?
Rome Life is something I started during my Sophomore year of high school (one of the worst times in my life) it started off as me documenting my journey to recovery from my shoulder surgery but eventually it turned into a platform that I could use to encourage myself as well as others to chase our dreams.
Rome Life isn't just a saying it's a way of life and for the people who want to be apart of it have to realize that. Rome wasn't built in a day it took a lot of handwork time and most importantly patience. So you can't expect your dreams to be any different

The sample is Under Pressure by Queen/D Bowie and there was some litigation surrounding the sampling of it... these things happen to this day, but he got way more heat than deserved and it shouldn't take away from the song itself. He was basically a one-hit wonder, but make no mistake, this was a huge hit. It was everywhere, 24-7.

Google it he had several hits but ice ice baby was the biggest hip hop single. Still holds that title today. He paved the way for Snoop Dogg, TuPac, Eminem and so on back when the Hip Hop movement hit the scene. He was a trailblazer, a forerunner very instrumental in bringing in more versatile hip hoppers, etc ... He just never was recognized for it bc people wanted to hate on him but everyone knew this song back in the day and danced to it. I was 23 when this song really went viral. Didn't Snow grow up in a neighbourhood with a good number of Jamaican immigrants (including some of his friends)? I thought that was how he got into the hip-hop scene. I'm not sure he was trying to pretend to be Jamaican or was simply a white kid who hung out with a lot of friends who were Jamaican immigrants and imitated his friends (as teens tend to do). Snow himself has like Irish roots or something like that.
Rap's not my thing personally but as a Canadian, yeah, I'm used to most black folks around here having Caribbean or (more recently) African ethnic roots rather than African-American roots (although some do from the Underground Railroad and American Revolution).

Also there was controversy of copyright issues bc he stole the background music from the song Under Pressure. Its nice to hear this song circulating again. Its very nostalgic but I also remember the joke it had become. Gen X teens could be really brutal back then. 😁

      Background
"Ice Ice Baby" is a hip hop song written by American rapper Vanilla Ice and DJ Earthquake based on the song "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie, who did not initially receive songwriting credit or royalties until after it had become a hit. Originally released on Vanilla Ice's 1989 debut album Hooked and later on his 1990 national debut To the Extreme, it is his most well known song. It has appeared in remixed form on Platinum Underground and Vanilla Ice Is Back! A live version appears on the album Extremely Live, while a rap rock version appears on the album Hard to Swallow, under the title "Too Cold"
Under Pressure" is a 1981 song by the British rock band Queen which was written and recorded with the singer David Bowie. It was included on Queen's 1982 album Hot Space. The song reached number one on the UK Singles Chart, becoming the group's second number-one hit in their home country (after 1975's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which topped the chart for nine weeks), and Bowie's third UK number-one.
      Held
The case was settled privately out of court as it was clear that Vanilla Ice had stolen the sample without permission. Ice settled out of court with Queen and David Bowie for an undisclosed but very likely very high amount. “Ice Ice Baby” has been released in many different versions with all of the legal procedures followed. Bowie and members of Queen all received songwriting credits on the track.

The short story- the reason he dropped off the world is - he sampled the bass from Under PRESSURE, from Queen- with David Bowie , and did not get permission! A lot of rapper's did that- but it became a hit, which caused problems! He was a upper middle class white from Dallas , Texas- who created a fake background that he was poor, and from the HOOD! He lost street cred - very quickly, and that basically destroyed his rap career. I'm not into Hip-hop, but he had some talent, as you can see!!

Vanilla Ice had 2 hit songs. Extremely popular in the very early 90's. The bass line from this song was from a Queen song and he got sued for that. He was a young guy and didn't realize it would cause him grief.
The second issue that caused him grief was some people did some digging into his background and found out he grew up in an upper-middle-class suburb and is Jewish. This ended his Rap and Hip-Hop career for good. His talent became secondary to the HATE he got for the crime of his background. White Jew from the Burbs.
But, he didn't let all that destroy him. He changed careers and used the cash from his two hits to launch a very very successful Luxury Home Renovation business in the Fort Lauderdale area, and has his own TV show on the HGTV Network showcasing his work.
