I suppose it makes sense that if Corlys just got a shit ton of wealth from a handful of voyages, and no one quite followed in his footsteps, eventually that wealth could run out, especially compared to the Lannister's nearly limitless source of wealth in their mines

What’s even more confusing is Rhaena had the last dragon named Morning. She in the books took the dragon everywhere and the common folk actually loved her and they very much so took to her because of her dragon morning. However Rhaenerya and Daemons son Aegon the 3rd hated dragons and he is the SOLE reason the dragons died off. He told Rhaena to leave court because he hated dragons. But the books NEVER say what became of Rhaena and Morning
We know Morning died before Aegon III did, so at most she lived only 20 years. Rhaena married a hightower and had half a dozen daughters, we don't know when exactly she died but she never hatched another dragon.

It’s quite clear that backing Rhenayra was a gamble that didn’t pay off. Leading to the complete demise of the Velayrons upper status. High tide being sacked and burned wasn’t helpful either. It’s a classic example of how Corlys had it all the status wealth and influence. But he failed to be content. Instead he did everything in his power to get blood on the throne. Even when it wasn’t in House Velyarons interest to do so.
I mean he didn’t have much of a choice either they were placed in a hard spot yes they could’ve sat out and done nothing but then aegon and the greens would’ve still come for them or wanted them in their side especially their granddaughters because they have daemons blood so half Targaryen and not to mention the marriage pack between Jace,luc, rhaena and baela. Also rhaenys was a Targaryen princess as well. That hard spot was mostly due to how close they were with viserys and the marriage between laenor and rhaenyera. The deleted scene with rhaenys and baela proved that they still would come after them baela knew this or was it rhaena I can’t remember but those girls were smart enough to know what was going to happen.
They would have supported Rhaenyra because of their granddaughters anyway Especially since the war was inevitable The greens where wiped out by the war and Rhaenyras line ruled So in that facet the blacks won in the end
Backing Alicent wasn’t the best choice either tbh , them being surrounded by snakes that just wanted their dragons and golds was about to end their dynasty worst than it did with Rhaenyra in my opinion, don’t get me wrong the way Rhaenys died in the book was horrible but they would’ve end up being betrayed and killed if they collaborated with the other side either way (in my opinion) , They got into a lot of troubles being with Rhenaryra but she was more trustworthy than people around Alicent. The better option was them being out of the drama finding an other kingdom somewhere else , but a big family like the Velaryons would’ve attract snakes anyway so.
I wouldnt' say complete. Alyn just there after retained the power and prestige of House Velaryon for some 40 years. It was after his demise that their influence basically fell apart. He was essentially a mini Corlys.

Would be interesting if, when Dany makes it to Westeros with her Dragons, she meets the young Lord of the Tides, and he perhaps bonds with say, Viserion. Although Dany may be weary of her child bonding with someone, she would be wise to note that while Aegon did take over Westeros with 3 Dragons, he also had his Sister-Wives as Dragonriders. So, with the young Velaryon bonded with one of her Dragons, the rise of the Valyrian families together will help bolster Dany's own claim to greatness as well.
Very interesting idea... Although Velaryons aren't really dragonriders. Laenor and Laena were exceptions because their mother was a Targaryen. But I can definitely see Aurane helping Dany with his fleet, maybe getting legitimised and given Driftmark as a reward?
okay so yeah, that’s probaly not going happen. The last Velaryon dragon-rider was Rhaena and she died literally like 150 years ago. The books heavily imply that only daenerys, faegon and maybe jon posess the power of dragonriding now

I can't remember if they are mentioned in the books much but it seems like they lost a lot of power probably after the Targaryens were all killed off. Better to keep a low profile if you were related to them and they were your allies with Robert Baratheon as king.

Hollywood does it all the time, and hell with some shows/movies, they deepfake the faces of dead people or actors who refuse to return. To the franchise/can't. Edit:I only bring up that point because I think that Pablo doesn't need CGI so much as make up to make him appear younger. But also, his age could help, maybe Oberyn took on a much, more rugged and weathered approach to Essos and only cleaned up when allowed back home.

I am Asian American. I enjoy seeing diversity in casting. But only when it fits properly. This just seems very very forced. The Valyrians mentioned in books 📚 & History & Lore were all about incest & keeping the bloodlines pure. We all know genetically this just does not make sense to have African characters be blond Simply illogical and visually disturbing. It breaks the suspension of disbelief. I understand that the Velaryons are dark skinned Valyrians in the show for a more diverse cast, and this is explained with reference to the multi-ethnic nature of the Valyrian Freehold. But I know of no ethnicity in the World of Ice and Fire that has dark skin and white hair. What ethnicity are they supposed to be? Wouldn't it make more sense if their ancestors were from the Summer Isles, say, and looked like Summer Islanders? It's just weird how they went part of the way to inclusivity then stopped.
Well there is some truth to black people with white or even red hair, check out the melanasians. They make up a very small portion of the African diaspora, but it's still noteworthy

The Velaryons have always been fair of skin and silver of hair like all those of Valyrians descent were. The Creators of HOTD merely took creative liberties and GRRM allowed it because it doesnt hurt the plot of the story much

There are lots of black people on GRRM's novels, like the people of the Summer Isles, but the Velaryons were never black or mixed race this is an invention of the tv show

As a reader/watcher I love the fact that they introduce new houses, that are barely mentioned or not big in got….showing that what it takes is ambitious men to be in court, gives us new lore….i would hate to see the same houses I saw in got going at it….again
I think the balance between new houses and some of the old ones is good, it's nice to see how the power shifted over the years but it also makes sense that some of the biggest ones remained relevant through all that history, things like "oh the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard is Harold Westerling?, thats the same family as Rob's wife in the original books that's nice"

HBO made them black so they could have black people riding dragons, it was 100% political and makes no sense from a lore and worldbuilding PoV, is over, is fine, you can say that diversity and job opportunities are more important than lore, and that is a fair argument, but pretending it makes sense is a bad and dumb cope. The targs were already half valyrian, aegon and his sisters had a velaryon mother. Valyrian is an ethnicity, and in the world of ice and fire they are their own RACE, not only a nationality ot a citizenship, but a RACE different from what we would call "caucasoids", Valyrians were supremacists that practiced eugenics and experimented on themselves.
It isn't clearly stated in the books, but likely yes. The storm where Dany was born destroyed most of the royal fleet anchored at Dragonstone. Most of those ships would have been Velaryon.
My suspicion is that other houses such as Redwyne built up fleets and began to import and export from Essos. Without their monopoly on eastern trade, the Velaryons would lose much of their influence and the competition would reduce their wealth.
the veylarons are normally white they were only made black because most movies and shows these days are held on some diversity quota, luckily the chosen actors where fairly good which makes up for the discrepancy from the books.
Another reason is there’s no more dragons so targareyrions no longer bond their family with valoryions, which is believed to have a higher percentage of magic to tame dragons, even though they can’t ride themselves
Showpleb, the show isn't canon. Your dear storyline with Stannis losing to the Bolton chumps is fake. Go read the books and you'll see how UTTERLY DIFFERENT Stannis's current storyline is. And how many more characters are involved with him and his northern campaign. The Boltons are the ones suffering betrayals everywhere and everyone ditching them for Stannis.

I'd like to see Aurane helping Daenerys in ASOIAF. That would make sense if he would want to marry her also in exchange of naval support she needs. He can also be legitimised by her decree. But knowing G.R.R.M., I can assume that he will either die at the hands of Euron Greyjoy, or he will be betrayed by his own people and handed over to the Lannisters for a handful of coins. Yeah, and it will be told in three sentences in one of the Lannister POVs, not even Daenerys.

They fell from power after the Dance. Their house was almost totally destroyed and had to be continued via a legitimised bastard. No doubt many people looked down on the successive Lords of the Tide as being ‘tainted’ by bastards blood. Robert’s Rebellion would’ve hardly been good for them. Being a Valryian house historically tied to the Targaryens meant they would never find favour with the man who utterly despised House Targaryen.
Besides the fact that in the books the Velaryons are as pale as the Targaryens, it makes no sense for the Velaryons to be black in the show when you know that King Viserys I, Queen Aemma and Princess Rhaenys shared the same great grandmother, Alyssa Velaryon, yet the actors who played them were as white as all the other Targs.

It’s quite clear that backing Rhenayra was a gamble that didn’t pay off. Leading to the complete demise of the Velayrons upper status. High tide being sacked and burned wasn’t helpful either.
It’s a classic example of how Corlys had it all the status wealth and influence. But he failed to be content. Instead he did everything in his power to get blood on the throne. Even when it wasn’t in House Velyarons interest to do so.
I mean he didn’t have much of a choice either they were placed in a hard spot yes they could’ve sat out and done nothing but then aegon and the greens would’ve still come for them or wanted them in their side especially their granddaughters because they have daemons blood so half Targaryen and not to mention the marriage pack between Jace,luc, rhaena and baela. Also rhaenys was a Targaryen princess as well. That hard spot was mostly due to how close they were with viserys and the marriage between laenor and rhaenyera. The deleted scene with rhaenys and baela proved that they still would come after them baela knew this or was it rhaena I can’t remember but those girls were smart enough to know what was going to happen.
They would have supported Rhaenyra because of their granddaughters anyway
Especially since the war was inevitable
The greens where wiped out by the war and Rhaenyras line ruled
So in that facet the blacks won in the end
Backing Alicent wasn’t the best choice either tbh , them being surrounded by snakes that just wanted their dragons and golds was about to end their dynasty worst than it did with Rhaenyra in my opinion, don’t get me wrong the way Rhaenys died in the book was horrible but they would’ve end up being betrayed and killed if they collaborated with the other side either way (in my opinion) , They got into a lot of troubles being with Rhenaryra but she was more trustworthy than people around Alicent.
The better option was them being out of the drama finding an other kingdom somewhere else , but a big family like the Velaryons would’ve attract snakes anyway so.
I wouldnt' say complete. Alyn just there after retained the power and prestige of House Velaryon for some 40 years. It was after his demise that their influence basically fell apart. He was essentially a mini Corlys.

Would be interesting if, when Dany makes it to Westeros with her Dragons, she meets the young Lord of the Tides, and he perhaps bonds with say, Viserion. Although Dany may be weary of her child bonding with someone, she would be wise to note that while Aegon did take over Westeros with 3 Dragons, he also had his Sister-Wives as Dragonriders. So, with the young Velaryon bonded with one of her Dragons, the rise of the Valyrian families together will help bolster Dany's own claim to greatness as well.
Very interesting idea... Although Velaryons aren't really dragonriders. Laenor and Laena were exceptions because their mother was a Targaryen. But I can definitely see Aurane helping Dany with his fleet, maybe getting legitimised and given Driftmark as a reward?

I understand that the Velaryons are dark skinned Valyrians in the show for a more diverse cast, and this is explained with reference to the multi-ethnic nature of the Valyrian Freehold. But I know of no ethnicity in the World of Ice and Fire that has dark skin and white hair. What ethnicity are they supposed to be? Wouldn't it make more sense if their ancestors were from the Summer Isles, say, and looked like Summer Islanders? It's just weird how they went part of the way to inclusivity then stopped.

As a reader/watcher I love the fact that they introduce new houses, that are barely mentioned or not big in got….showing that what it takes is ambitious men to be in court, gives us new lore….i would hate to see the same houses I saw in got going at it….again
I think the balance between new houses and some of the old ones is good, it's nice to see how the power shifted over the years but it also makes sense that some of the biggest ones remained relevant through all that history, things like "oh the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard is Harold Westerling?, thats the same family as Rob's wife in the original books that's nice"

The targs were already half valyrian, aegon and his sisters had a velaryon mother. It isn't clearly stated in the books, but likely yes. The storm where Dany was born destroyed most of the royal fleet anchored at Dragonstone. Most of those ships would have been Velaryon.
My suspicion is that other houses such as Redwyne built up fleets and began to import and export from Essos. Without their monopoly on eastern trade, the Velaryons would lose much of their influence and the competition would reduce their wealth.

No, captain cope alot, there was no "multi ethnic nature" in Valeria besides slave and foreigners. This is clear by the original story pointing out constantly what *Valerian* ( not even just -Targaryen- ) features in _Essos_ and _Westros_ look like. Those features are even said to be more valuable because of association with the former hierarchy astblisted by the Dragon Lords who ruled most of the know world. So what they "own their dark skin color" to are producers who injected what they call diversity (aka virtue signaling) into the story dispite the genetic and story logic previous established many times over. You'd have to be overdosing on cope to begin an attempt at making sense of just a single family being dark skinned on a continent of pale skinned people even after living there for centuries by the time of The Dance of Dragons. Not that that last part matters because they wouldn't have had darker skin to begin with.

They fell from power after the Dance. Their house was almost totally destroyed and had to be continued via a legitimised bastard. No doubt many people looked down on the successive Lords of the Tide as being ‘tainted’ by bastards blood.
Robert’s Rebellion would’ve hardly been good for them. Being a Valryian house historically tied to the Targaryens meant they would never find favour with the man who utterly despised House Targaryen.
Besides the fact that in the books the Velaryons are as pale as the Targaryens, it makes no sense for the Velaryons to be black in the show when you know that King Viserys I, Queen Aemma and Princess Rhaenys shared the same great grandmother, Alyssa Velaryon, yet the actors who played them were as white as all the other Targs.

Realistically, a tv show can't have that many characters, movies even less. Even if they went back to 22 episodes a season. Imagine not liking several actors/characters; and then you get an arc of 5-7 episodes with just them, how long are you gonna keep up before you drop it?
Sure the Valyrian Freehold was multi thnic but only the Valyrianethnicity ha dragonrider blood. and they are pale

I am Asian American. I enjoy seeing diversity in casting. But only when it fits properly. This just seems very very forced. The Valyrians mentioned in books 📚 & History & Lore were all about incest & keeping the bloodlines pure. We all know genetically this just does not make sense to have African characters be blond

In the grand scheme of things. In our real life, of course it’s not really going to matter. But people argue about Star Wars and Star Trek and Lord of the rings details and I’ve done so for decades. So this is just another creative choice that some of the fans will not agree with. it does not mean that people who disagree with the creative choice are Nazi racists.
Marvel comic books decided to change Nick fury into a black guy inspired by Samuel L Jackson. This creative difference seemed to work very well. At the time, I thought it was silly, but I can see that it resonated well with a lot of fans.
Benjamin Sisko is my favorite captain of Star Trek. Deep space line was definitely the best Star Trek television show in my opinion.
