You are having to pay for the insurance companies investment bonds not making as much money so they have made us pay extra.
The main reasons that or car insurance premiums have shot up is Liz trusses disastrous budget and brexit but these geniuses don't help

Never ceases to amaze me of the amount of car drivers are completely clueless as to how their car works. The kicker is that all of us have to pay higher insurance premiums because of their ignorance & stupidity.

Of course the insurance will pay out. The road wasn’t closed. They have no reason not to pay out.

Yes a reverse through is ideal only if you rev the car like mad to keep the water from blocking the exhaust.
It is so interesting that no one living near these crossings seems to know about that. Not sure if there is any crossing like this throughout whole germany but even I learned about that in drving school - as a final and once-in-a-lifetime solution if I ever get trapped in a flood...
He must be a local to trust his reversing vision, because there would be a sluice of water thrown up. And as another comment said- high revs to stop any chance of water entering the exhaust.

@@Jacob-yb6bv The belief that water will go up the exhaust pipe and stop the engine. Now that could be a problem, but what you want is high revs and low speed so some clutch-feathering is in order. And if it does go in the exhaust no expensive damage is done, unlike bending the conrods (actually maybe cats and DPFs don't like water? - I'm not famiiar with such newfangled things).

On the Merc.. Push the start button without pressing the brake and the ignition will come on. Then press the brake and move the gear selector stalk - it should release the gearbox into neutral.
Also, great to see a professional recovery technican representing the industry! 🙈
If all the electrics have shorted due to be energised at the time whilst driving into dirty flood water then the start button isn't going to do anything.
@@petersylvester2905 Thats the problem with all this pointless tech - once the computer is fucked the car is a brick. At least with old style autoboxes you could put them into neutral mechanically. Not these days.

It is staggering how many recovery operators are ill-prepared for such situations in terms of equipment and PPE. They come over as complete amateurs.

Most car insurance companies wont pay out for flood damage as it is classed as avoidable damage
Sadly you will be surprised at some of the stupidity they pay out for mate 😢 I’ve only known one not to be paid because they were third party and one that chose not to claim but to break the car.
In the states this sort of thing is typically covered by comprehensive car insurance
@@Bfg-yi2id it’s the same in the uk. However they will try avoid paying. It’s compulsory to have insurance by law here on all vehicles
A lot of people will perform a scam and burn the car out or something similar, hopefully insurance companies are keeping a list of registrations from these compilations.

Remember my old works carpark had really poor drainage. Everytime it rained heavily, one of the entrance/exits would flood with about a foot of water. Some numpty of a manager tried to drive through it in their new (to them) BMW 4 series. They ended the day scratching their head like Barney Rubble wondering why they had a destroyed engine on their hands!

I'm impressed! Several smart drivers! The guy who reversed thru the ford got it right, as did those who backed up before getting in too deep. Several drivers got lucky- they made it thru. And then, the stars of the show, the idiots who floored it, and blew up their engines. Nice Job, BENGREGERS!
I recall that many decades ago we had about 12 inches of water built up in the exit corner of our works car park. This was a company with 600 staff! I towed five or six others out of it with my old VW camper!

Experience, but also we limit what we say/do we do this for free. This allows others that rely on This for a living to still be in work. But as you see. Some recovery can’t even pull them..but what do we know 😅

Silly question but why do the wheels lock up and the car has to be dragged? I had a Citroen Zantia with a low front spoiler and killed it in a foot of water. The spoiler just shot the water straight into the engine. It started eventually but the noise was horrible. Thhanks for posting guys.

Electric parking brake on a keyless start car - so you can't even energise the ignition & car electronics.
