Never heard of the orb but it sure fits in, its no wonder why the Dominion was able to fight against the empire's massive army and superior tactics other wise the Dominion wouldn't stood a chance
Especially since they did not continue their expansion into Hammerfell after the war ended, it shows that the dominion can easily be dealt with with the proper tactics.
Basically, the Dominion cheated. Without that Orb, there weak. Love, to see the Dominion's leaders faces when they heard that they lost the Battle of the Red Ring. I would have payed a pretty penny to get that moment in bronze.
@Charlie Munro well I do not think that seeking a single dues ex Machina artifact counts as an act of genius remember the empire did not have the time to prepare properly for a damn war also their overreliance on such artifact could be to their lack of spy networks
Ya, that's why they suck in general. They may have won this war, but without there orb there weak. Now they got to build a whole spy network. I am sure the Puckuis Orclotes (I don't know how to spell there name. Basically, the Empire's version of the FBI) are probably up rooting there spy networks when ever they find them. But who truly knows? The Thalmor made some big mistakes that I am sure there going to learn from, but now they got to fight a more conservative. They lost alot of manpower, and the Empire is gearing up of a 2nd Great War. Even with the spy networks, information now comes at a very slow pace, and it could mean the difference between victory, or defeat. The Thalmor hate the unknown, because Man has proven to be the better at war, and the Elf's haven't been the best at war. Why else would the Thalmor need a orb? Because, it's easyer then guessing games. Which (again) the Thalmor hate guessing games.
@@Callsign_Prophet The problem with elves is that they take long enough to recuperate their population pool. I assume it takes longer for their children to grow. The adults probably average around 300-400 years old.
Frist Name Last Name penitus oculatus. Imagine the empire doing something like how they did..... sending an ambassador to ask them to cede large parts of Valenwood and Elsewyr to the empire and adopt the 9 divines religion and when they do not agree, just show them the heads of every single Thalmor agent in the parts owned by the empire and then sending the Dragonborn to FusRoDah the walls😂😂.
I feel like with this knowledge and the empire more prepared then there's no way the empire would lose a 2nd Great War, but I also feel like the Dominion would take a city and would not hesitate to make a sacrifice to a daedric lord for help like they hesitated in the 1st GW. If they did summon daedra then I don't think the empire would win, and then the daedra would probably turn on the dominion later on. So yeah, hopefully no sacrifice ever happens lol
How does Daedra summoning even work? They shouldn't be able to summon large quantities of Daedra after the Oblivion Crisis. I think Thalmor would just rely on subversion & shadow warfare, which won them Valenwood & Elsweyr. It plays into their strengths. Open warfare in the first Great War was an utter disaster for the dominion, which needed Daedric artefacts to make any gains as a military power.
Knowing this, I don't really see how the Stormcloaks have any argument that the empire hasn't been harsh enough to the Aldmeri Dominion. It seems like they did everything in their power to fight them
I'm not really sure what else they could have done though. They narrowly fought themselves out of being completely decimated, and barely got themselves to the point where they could negotiate a truce on (pretty much) equal footing. I get that banning Talos worship is bad, but at the same time you now have time to work yourself back up to a better point of strength where you could one day disregard that rule and/or fight the Thalmor again
@@kman1759 I have waited so long for someone else but me to type this. The Stormcloak rebellion is playing right into the Thalmors hands pretty much every player knows this but you still have idiots yelling SKYRIM IS FOR THE NORDS
This video is so well done. Like genuinely, it’s like one of those history videos in class we all watched when we were younger. I can actually comprehend and visualize what is happening.
Wow this really shed some light on the great war for me! The imperials really could of won if they didnt have that orb but now that it is destroyed I do beleave that the imperials will have a really good chance at winning the second great war.
Lol no skyrim couldn't defeat the Dominion. Whether the empire can is dubious. On land maybe but at sea? Quite possibly not. Skyrim couldn't do either.
@@samersinno1623 Skyrim after the civil war couldn't even defend itself from hight rock or hammerfell... if they ever chose to invade it, much less the dominion... in reality, the forces of the human kind united were only able to get a stellmate agaist the dominion, you really think a broken skyrim with no soldiers could hold off agaist a army that pushed Cyrodill, Hammerfell, Skyrim and Hight Rock combine?
The best way the Empire can topple the Dominion is by using the Penitus Oculatus to stir up dissent in Elsweyr and Valenwood. The Bosmer have never been particularly nationalistic or loyal to the high elves, only remaining under the Dominion for the sake of benefits given to clans that kiss high elf ass. The Khajiits could care less about the Thalmor, except for their claim of bringing Masser and Secunda back during the Void Nights, but if that can be disproven, then the Khajiits will be pissed real quick. Hell, even the Summerset Isles themselves aren't totally loyal to the Dominion. I guarantee some high elves are dissatisfied with the Dominion, because some were alive during the days of the Empire, where they were pretty much free to do whatever they pleased, compared to a fascist totalitarian government. Bring strife to the home front, and I guarantee the Empire can gain the upper hand.
It's better to rest today and fight tommorow than to fight and die today. That's what the Empire did at the end of the great war. They didn't surrender, a fact the Stormcloaks won't acknowledge.
But the Dominion had no more attack troops and couldnt attack. So its idiotic to sign the treaty and it was a surrender that wasnt needed. The Stormcloaks are right. The day the WGC was signed , was the day the Empire died.
Tranz Cat Had they not signed the Concordat, the war would be a disaster for the Empire, because the war never affected the Dominion's supplies or population, the Empire would never be able to hold Cyrodiil if another offensive came from the fresh Reverse armies of the Dominion, and the Imperial Legions were nearly completely destroyed, most of their veterans dead and recruitments were low,the Empire just didn't have the supplies, resources or manpower to continue the war any longer
The Dominion wouldn't likely be able to conquer cyrodiil, yes, but the empire had no way of fighting back. It would have just weakened the empire further and risked destruction. Men reproduce faster; the empire needed time to recover, it knows its playing for time. A few decades down the line and it will be ready for round two while the Thalmor are still rebuilding. It wasn't a surrender, it was a peace treaty, and the empire gave up little of value; Ceding Hammerfell was a null term and the empire knew it, their own legionaries would fight in. They regained all the lost lands of cyrodiil so they could begin rebuilding and agreed to make Talos worship de jure illegal - but don't bother enforcing it at all, and underground talos worship is massive (it's literally only because ulfric kicked up a stink in skyrim that the empire was forced to let the Thalmor come in and crack down.)
@@samersinno1623 Not even timber septim himself atacked summer set isles because that would be suicide, and unlike the empire, the Aldmeri still have planty more soldiers to send there for a second compaing, The empire was ruined, they lacked supplies and a army, if they wanted to rebuilt they army to be able to protect thenselves from a second wave, they needed to sign up the concordat
I believe that one of the books in the Thalmor Embassy says that they are trying to keep the war going for as long as they can because if either of the armies win they are going to become a serious threat to the dominion
This has helped me understand the Great War.This video is presented flawlessly and professionally!Well done Imperial knowledge

The Forgotten Hero? That sounds like a player. I bet once technology allows big armies, Bethesda is planning on making this into a game. EDIT: and I don’t mean a damn card game haha
Great work man, thanks for your dedication to the lore and making content. Hard to find some good lore content sometimes. I have watched every episode of most of the other channels lol.
Re immersing myself in Skyrim recently have started to watch your videos much more frequently. Great content as always man and I can remember when this channel only had like 300 subscribers it's come a long way much respect for the videos
I have watched ES lore videos For nearly 14 Years now and This one is certainly one of all Time Favorites have watched it multiple Times over The years
Oblivion is before the war but it’s almost the direct cause to the Empire’s current state since it destroyed it, imagine the Western Roman Empire against Attila the Hun, that’s how it was
As someone who has been playing "TESV:S" for over two years now (after having bought it, but never finished it, back in 2012 or so?), I think this is an excellent video. When I'm done with that pesky dragon here up north, I'll pay a visit to those snotty elves, but in the meantime, I ask everyone to stand firm. May Talos guide you.
If the Redguard Civil war hadn't been in full swing already, the Empire would've had significantly more troops to fight with. I don't think they would've won, but it have been a significantly different outcome.
Imperial, your visual aids remain the best I have seen in any lore videos, it is clear you put a lot of time and effort into them. And I love the intro!!
Imagine a return of the sword singers. SwordSingers are capable of taking a fraction of their soul and making It Into a ghostly sword. There have been stories of 1 swordsingers taking on battalions. But since then SwordSingers have simply become a old relic. Can we have a swordsingers lore video????
Thank you. I've just started playing Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls for the first time (yes, I am culturally deprived) and had been wondering what all of the fuss was about. Being just a poor Khajiit I had to go back to school for all of this. This will teach me for running around catching butterflies as a kitten I guess...
"I killed a lot of high elves in the great war, and I didn't die. I...guess that makes me a war hero. the great war...there was nothing great about it. thousands died on both sides, and where did it get us? did we really save the empire? or did we just plant the seeds for ulfric's uprising....and another war." -Brunwulf Free-Winter
Empire is so much more powerful compared to conventional view that we hold from the games...but so is dominion. Altmer battlemages are a military logistical nightmare for any enemy. I see why conquering Summerset Isles would be impossible without Numidium. So much arcane power, ancient knowledge from the direct divine ancestry and long life span...and they also have Psijics.
the Empire isn’t even half or quarter of its power from the time of the Septims, Titus II inherited weak and crumbling Empire and miraculously and in genius move he saved it against the greatest danger since Molag Bal, the Empire is on its knees and they know the Dominion more powerful and will attack, my bet is ES6 is the Dominion will attack Hammerfell again but the Empire will come to its aid
The Dominion dontbhave the Psijiics. The two are enemies to the point that the Psijiic order teleported the isle of artaeum away so the Thalmor couldnt get them.
I think this is a great summary of the events of the war for someone like myself who isn't as familiar with the lore. I don't want come off sounding like an asshole but I just think that the voice over could have definitely turned out a bit better with some more slow and annunciated takes. Besides than that I think this is great!
Really really hoping hammerfell rejoins the army and works together with the imperial legion (and possibly storm cloaks) and fights off the Thalmor in the inevitable second great war
The empire should still look up for more allies, they should try to turn the wood elves and the khajiit agaist the dominion. Otherwise atacking summerset isle would be suicide.
@@brunoraoni Valenwood is a long-term ally to the Aldmeri Dominion. I doubt the Bosmer would ever turn their backs on the High Elves. The Khajiit are more likely to fight for the Empire though.
would be a neat spin-off game, an Elder Scrolls RTS that uses the great war, Tiber septim's conquering of tamriel, Akiviri invasion as campaigns, and a free play mode, which is like Risk/Age of Empires but with TES races.
What many people forget is that all of the basegame Legends Lore is only storys told by someone around a campfire. It is not completely clear how much of the stuff with the forgotten hero, if any, ever happened.
The visual editing and mapping of this video is very nice, but you really need to work on your narration. Way too much stuttering. Also, why is Mojang's Scrolls listed as the game in the description?
Cowardly Emperor threw it all away. The Dominion was beaten, its main force wiped out. They had the skrying thing of Meridia. Hammerfell threw the Dominion out on their OWN, and achieved peace. Why couldn't the Emperor get a white peace? Because of garrison troops, and a border? Wow.
Moral of the story, I guess, is that if the Aldmeri had chosen to reinforce Lady Arannelya in Hammerfell rather than put everything towards Lord Naarifin in Cyrodiil then the Aldmeri might have been able to maintain their occupation of Hammerfell, giving them the advantage in the second great war.
All fanboyism aside, people who passionatelly hate the Altmer and complain how "empire should have just sailed towards Summerset Isles and finished them off" tend to forget several facts: 1. Summerset Isles is a home to the Psijic order and the Adamantine tower. 2. It is also home to the best mages, sorcerers and battlemages in Tamriel. 3. The only time empire stood a chance against them on their soil was when Tiber Septim used fucking Numidium to conquer them. 4. Wisest, by far the longest living, most intelligent and magically gifted race on Tamriel won't just die off without at least a backup plan...
1. Psijic order is Neutral they wouldn't support the Thalmor! Also the Adamantine Tower is in High Rock the Summerset Isles has the Crystal Tower which has been deactivated for hundreds of years then was destroyed in the Oblivion Crisis. 2. Bretons and Imperials have the Best Battlemages in Tamriel Altmer debatably have the best Regular Mages...What does that matter? We've seen time and again Warriors and Rogues take out plenty of Mages! Nords and Imperials are the Greatest Warriors, The Redguards excel at swordsmanship and they have the BEST Navy in Tamriel, Bretons can match the magic in a combative form! 3. You say that's the only time...Sure it's the only time they TRIED to invade it without further attempts you're simply making an assumption! Talos and his Empire the same exact Empire of the Mede's could of taken Summerset WITHOUT the robot. They didn't because it was quicker and smarter to use the weapon NOT because it was the only way! The Summerset Isles ISN'T a Fortress it's a few Islands with Elves that is all! The might of every single races of Men could take it down! In fact I'd easily argue that Valenwood and Elsweyr would be tougher campaigns! 4. Wisest and most intelligent my ass...Imperials, Dunmer, Bretons and Redguards all match and even surpass their intellect! Magic can be used and mastered by any race...Bretons, Nords and Dunmer have had mages just as powerful as any Altmer! For fuck sake I never saw any Altmer become a Living God! The Altmer could be wiped out by the Races of Men or Sload or Argonians! They're NOT Gods or Invincible they bleed like everybody else! This belief they can somehow just use magic and all their problems would be solved is complete bullshit! They don't have the numbers or resources to last an invasion of their homeland! If the Imperials gained the help of Maormer and Dunmer they'd fall with certainty as well. The ONLY reason they even got as far as they did in the Great War was because of a Daedric Artifact! As an Army and People they're nothing compared to the Empire in a straight up fight of tactics or attrition!
@@javierslytherin9898 An yet only Three Chimer and One Human have ever transcended to Godhood. Most Powerful is whoever became a GOD and/or realized the reality of the universe's actual state of being (Achieved CHIM)! Don't BS here the Altmer *THINK* they're the most powerful but that isn't true they're just overly cocky supremacists...Maybe in magic they're powerful but even then have been passed by an Nord (Shalidor) and Yokudans (more powerful than Thu'um users capable of using One single magical attack to wipe away an entire continent at least 4x the size of the Summerset Isles) and Dragonborns themselves a single Dovahkiin could end the entire Thalmor Army single handedly.
@@flamesofchaos13 I mean as a Race and people in General, not some particular individuals. As a general rule, in general, as a race, the Altmer are obviously the most powerful race. They are not immortal or invincible, and there may even be some individuals stronger in other races, but as a general race they are the most powerful
@@javierslytherin9898 If they were truly the most powerful race then exceptionally powerful human mages rivalling and surpassing them statistically wouldn't really be possible. For example, the difference in muscle mass between men and women is on average 50%, which happens to coincide with starting magicka levels between Altmer and the other races. Consequently, the men's deadlift record is almost 500 kilos while the women's deadlift record is just under 290 kilos, the latter of which doesn't surpass any male record since they started recording them. In the Elder Scrolls universe however, you have powerful enchanters from all across time like Neloth and Azhidal who are/were allegedly the best in their craft during their respective eras on the continent. Neloth is supposedly the only enchanter to ever create a staff enchanter. Azhidal artifacts so powerful they were the driving force behind Ysgramor's genocide of the Snow Elves (an off-shoot of Altmer, I believe). Many of the artifacts you can find in Saarthal, and perhaps even Wuuthrad itself were possibly his making. I think that would at the very least make them powerful enough enchanters to put them in the 1st percentile of high elves, but I'm assuming they were the best. Savos Aren, a dunmer, is the Arch-Mage of his college rather than the two Altmer who attend it and his master wizard is a breton (granted, that isn't a particularly large sample size, but the location would be slanted towards more powerful magic-users). Given this evidence, regardless of what game statistics would indicate it would be nearly impossible statistically for Altmer to be easily the most powerful race in terms of magic, and even if they were it couldn't be by much. Otherwise, Altmer as a race don't excel in any other category except the navy which I imagine is more so due to their capitol province and homeland being an island and perhaps nautical traditions from their Maormer ancestors.
The white gold concordat makes no sense when you find out the aldemari dominion was only winning when they literally had 100% intel on the imperial movements and ran right into a brick wall when more forces were mustered and their intel advantage was lost.
The Empire will probably stave off death for a little while longer before falling apart but I don't think the Aldmeri Dominion will have success, more likely the Aldmeri might weaken themselves in fighting the Medeian Empire

@@fristnamelastname5549 Seems like the thalmer benefit by numbers and spies... sounds like a modern nation lmao
@@Callsign_Prophet The problem with elves is that they take long enough to recuperate their population pool. I assume it takes longer for their children to grow. The adults probably average around 300-400 years old.
Frist Name Last Name penitus oculatus. Imagine the empire doing something like how they did..... sending an ambassador to ask them to cede large parts of Valenwood and Elsewyr to the empire and adopt the 9 divines religion and when they do not agree, just show them the heads of every single Thalmor agent in the parts owned by the empire and then sending the Dragonborn to FusRoDah the walls😂😂.
i cant wait for ES 6. The birds roam its located in Hammerfell. So, it could be the downfall of Aldmeri Dominion. Long live the Emperor.
I'm pretty sure that it will be cannon that the emperor dies by dark brotherhood assassins. Ironic right
BP Reason true, but another Emperor will be elected. Here’s to hoping the next Emperor craving to strike at the heart of the Thalmor
i think TES 6 will be during the hammerfell campaing to fight off the the Aldmeri dominion and we will also get to solve the civil war there.
Technically, we already have the technology to allow for big armies in future Elder Scrolls games, look up the Mount and Blades video games.
I think that too my guy
I feel like with this knowledge and the empire more prepared then there's no way the empire would lose a 2nd Great War, but I also feel like the Dominion would take a city and would not hesitate to make a sacrifice to a daedric lord for help like they hesitated in the 1st GW. If they did summon daedra then I don't think the empire would win, and then the daedra would probably turn on the dominion later on. So yeah, hopefully no sacrifice ever happens lol
But they wouldn't unless they are willing to sacrifice their own populations which would just result in revolt and rebellion
It seems like they did everything in their power to fight them
Because the Stormcloaks are idiots led by the biggest idiot in Skyrim
But they still signed the White Gold Concordact after fighting them anyway.

The end picture of Tamriel from space is stunning

Wow this really shed some light on the great war for me! The imperials really could of won if they didnt have that orb but now that it is destroyed I do beleave that the imperials will have a really good chance at winning the second great war.
Skyrim alone could destroy the Dominion.
Lol no skyrim couldn't defeat the Dominion. Whether the empire can is dubious. On land maybe but at sea? Quite possibly not. Skyrim couldn't do either.
@@syphonfillter speculation
Give legend's story mode a chance before shit talking it.
Kaelan Swan I’ve played legends story and I can sympathize with the pickle, I would much rather have it in an actual game then just a card game
Legends actually has a great story mode and it's super fun.
I'd prefer Bethesda put significant bits of lore into games like Blades and Legends (great game, by the way) instead of leaving them empty.
Yes but depending on what alliance you pick it will change the outcome that would be cool
This was pretty cool and your editing is very entertaining. I like the machinimas as well. Great job!

Great video on The Great War friend, thank you. It was very informative and well set up!
Outstanding. Never got into Legends but have played Oblivion and Skyrim a million times. Always had trouble understanding the Great War till now.

If the Redguard Civil war hadn't been in full swing already, the Empire would've had significantly more troops to fight with. I don't think they would've won, but it have been a significantly different outcome.
Salute to the 8th legion and there suicidal defence to buy time for the other legions to escape and regroup.

the great war...there was nothing great about it. thousands died on both sides, and where did it get us?
did we really save the empire? or did we just plant the seeds for ulfric's uprising....and another war."

Empire is so much more powerful compared to conventional view that we hold from the games...but so is dominion. Altmer battlemages are a military logistical nightmare for any enemy. I see why conquering Summerset Isles would be impossible without Numidium. So much arcane power, ancient knowledge from the direct divine ancestry and long life span...and they also have Psijics.
the aldmeri dominion and the psijics have rocky relationships and do not like each other.
the Empire isn’t even half or quarter of its power from the time of the Septims, Titus II inherited weak and crumbling Empire and miraculously and in genius move he saved it against the greatest danger since Molag Bal, the Empire is on its knees and they know the Dominion more powerful and will attack, my bet is ES6 is the Dominion will attack Hammerfell again but the Empire will come to its aid
i hope so
Psijics are the magic police. They don't really care about mortal politics. They're a recluse monastery.
The Dominion dontbhave the Psijiics. The two are enemies to the point that the Psijiic order teleported the isle of artaeum away so the Thalmor couldnt get them.
this is my favorite video on your channel
congrats. A great change from visuals and quality of mic.

I think this is a great summary of the events of the war for someone like myself who isn't as familiar with the lore. Besides than that I think this is great!
still awesome I use this alot when thinking of new builds 10/10
Really really hoping hammerfell rejoins the army and works together with the imperial legion (and possibly storm cloaks) and fights off the Thalmor in the inevitable second great war
The empire should still look up for more allies, they should try to turn the wood elves and the khajiit agaist the dominion. Otherwise atacking summerset isle would be suicide.
@@brunoraoni Valenwood is a long-term ally to the Aldmeri Dominion. I doubt the Bosmer would ever turn their backs on the High Elves. The Khajiit are more likely to fight for the Empire though.

Wow.
Titus Mede was such a badass.
I wish we could take the fight to the Thalmor as dragon born
Agree they pretty much kept the whole civil war aftermath out
Just get the Companions to retrieve all the pieces of Wuuthrad 🤣
Moral of the story, I guess, is that if the Aldmeri had chosen to reinforce Lady Arannelya in Hammerfell rather than put everything towards Lord Naarifin in Cyrodiil then the Aldmeri might have been able to maintain their occupation of Hammerfell, giving them the advantage in the second great war.
I hate how, near the end, the Empire had the upper hand but still signed the White-Gold Concordat, making the entire war pointless.
@@flamesofchaos13 Altmer are the single most powerful race, just calm down...
@@javierslytherin9898 An yet only Three Chimer and One Human have ever transcended to Godhood. Most Powerful is whoever became a GOD and/or realized the reality of the universe's actual state of being (Achieved CHIM)!
@@javierslytherin9898
If they were truly the most powerful race then exceptionally powerful human mages rivalling and surpassing them statistically wouldn't really be possible.
I made the terrible mistake of enabling subtitles.

The white gold concordat makes no sense when you find out the aldemari dominion was only winning when they literally had 100% intel on the imperial movements and ran right into a brick wall when more forces were mustered and their intel advantage was lost.
The fact that the Empire managed to hold their own inspite of such a Daedric tampering is inspiring....

the empire is really strong, and it kind of annoyed me int he ESO cinematic trailers that the imperial soldiers where shown as these morons who can easily be disposed.
the ESO version of the empire is an embarrassment. the Daggerfall-Skyrim era of the empire was far superior and actually feels like, you know, an EMPIRE. a huge powerful faction that isn't to be trifled with.
