I youtubed 'teenage dirtbag cover' with a really specific type of cover in mind. Clicked on 5 or 6 of the top ones and was like naaaaaah. Then I clicked this one. As soon as the intro played I was like THATS THE SOUND
I wanna know how you feel about Dorian Electra's cover of this song. Pheobe does it in a really interesting way but i have to say Dorians top any cover I've ever heard of literally any song 😂
Perfect as usual What is it about this song? Even at my somewhat advanced age (62) it brings back all the crap I had to live with back in the early 70's when I was one of a small handful of guys with long hair Give the Sahara Beck cover a listen as well, also truly amazing
Luv the Americana strum and feel! Very nicely done...voice smooth a well aged cognac with just the right amount if raspy-ness. Tickled my auditory nerve no doubt.
This is a master class on how to do a cover. The Wheatus original is perfect as seen through an insecure teenage boy crushing on a girl way out of his league. Phoebe’s perfect cover brings a whole different feel now that it’s sung from a girl’s perspective.
@@n0-one0 boy i am not talking about the singers, i'm talking about the energy of the song fucking chill. i didn't pigeonhole anyone, i said "wlw" do you even know what that means? nothing has been ruined, clearly my community liked my comment you're mad about people "thinking they know everything about everyone" while vastly jumping to conclusions
When I first heard the song I was on a plane to the other side of the world listening to the airline's selection on repeat. I had no idea who it was by and genuinely thought it was being sung by a woman! When I eventually saw the video and realised it was a guy with a high pitched voice and a standard high school rom com story I was quite disappointed. Girl crushing on popular girl who turns out to be into her too and wants to take her to a concert was a better story in my opinion than the cliched 'nerdy guy wins in the end' story.
"Oh yeah, dirtbag. No she doesn't know what she's missing"... Hearing it in this cover just smacks so much harder! What a cover. Lizzie does do it justice. But damn, this cover is just sublime!
This is exactly what I felt like hearing! Well done! I love this :)

I'm very grateful that Phoebe Brigers's voice and can penetrate through a crudely healed broken heart, and start piecing it back together as it should be. I'm just discovering all these new songs by her such as Waiting Room, this cover and Motion Sickness being some of the new songs that I've heard today. My introduction to her was about 6 years ago with her rendition of Steamroller. I Guess I wasn't ready for all these other songs until now, my broken heart didn't have the strength to be able to hold the fragile emotions of these new songs, until now. I never forgot the impact that her voice from Steamroller gave me, I'd listen to it on Spotify several days for a week, for some weeks, when I came across it. I'm glad that Spotify removed it, because it was TH-cam's suggested clips that have taken me where I needed to be at this point in my recovery from the heartbreak of repressed grief. 💔❤❤🔥
omggg yes, it’s so annoying when they do that in her first album she has a song “you missed my heart” and it’s a cover but she doesn’t change the pronouns and it sounds so good
@@WegrennerX Yeah, I don’t see it, melody isn’t similar, notes aren’t similar, it’s not even a similar tempo. About the only similarity is that they’re both being played on acoustic guitar.
I just listened in this order: the original, the pmj Janis style, Amy shark, then this one! That was a fun ride, you definitely need to cap it off with this version for sure!!!!
Oh my god. YES. This cover is everything. I like the original just fine, but this cover just gave the song new life for me. Also, def adding this to my list of Het Songs That Become WLW Songs If Sung By A Woman. See also: Fell In Love With A Girl by The White Stripes, and I’m On Fire by Bruce Springsteen.
cant believe im THIS far into my phoebe bridgers pilgrimage and ive only just found this omg
Welcome to the dirtbag party 🥳

I love this. thanks for this.
please how does she turn every song into a heartbreaking ballad
Her voice is something else. It’s beautiful, far off and close all at once, and it connects.
Hello Julia how are you doing hope you’re having a great time with your family may God bless you and your family
it kinda rings hollow hearing a pretty girl sing about being an ugly boy
cause she's a goddess
this girl could cover anything and make it sound original

I thought this said "a girl could cover anything and make it sound better" because I am not sober, and I was like "wow so true"

The earnest passion with which she sings “teenage dirtbag “fills my heart with inexpressible joy and sorrow.
that's beautiful
"Teenage dirtbag" was always a metaphor for growing up queer in the suburbs, nobody will ever convince me otherwise
@@antikinetic I really doubt that
im fully convinced that this is exactly how this song is supposed to be sung.. i thought i liked the og version but i can never go back
yeah everything she touches turns to gold, i would honestly faint if i met her ha, she is a fucking goddess to say the least.
Sure, "let's take away the irony, and completely lose the drama of the last verses."
@@EnoVarma it amps up the irony to ten for me, especially the line about iron maiden and shit. it's soo melodramatic and so is the narrator.
th-cam.com/video/ZvIzmTiYoPo/w-d-xo.html a little toned down version by original band cpl years ago so much better than original

I'm 62 now but I was a punk rocker. Phoebe shreds
this is literally the most incredible cover i’ve ever heard… impeccable performance is a crazy understatement
better than the fake plastic trees cover????
Better than Lizzy McAlpine?
i think that this is by far the best cover. it's insane, she turned it in to her own song...
Seen wheatus in 2003 and this song has so many teenage memory's to it for me.
I have to say pheobes done it massive justice.
Amazing cover ❤
It's weird how she takes a song that I don't necessarily care for and turns it into something I can't stop thinking about
It was a well written song and she does it justice - better than the original performance imo
Everybody covers this song. Phoebe brings a very different and soul touching feel to it. Love it!
I am different than I was 4 minutes and 10 seconds ago 🥺
#betterdifferent
let’s be honest, one direction stole this song from wheatus, and now phoebe bridgers has the best version no contest
There's a one direction cover to this? Never knew. Only know this and the original.
The one direction version is really weak compared to the original. No power
Idk I also really dig on Mary Lambert’s version. Something special about a woman singing it though.
they didn't steal it they just covered it at their shows and it is good as well
Idk about no contest, Kathryn Gallagher and Jen Damiano's version is about on par with this one imo
What I really need out of life is to hang out with Phoebe Bridgers.
Can she do NO wrong?! LOVE.
what if she was to commit multiple atrocities??
@@georgesmitherson4721 Well then the answer to the question I asked would be, "Yes. Yes she most certainly can do wrong" 🤷♂️

this begs to be on the soundtrack of that new movie The Half of It
the definitive version of this song
The is the definite article
This a great reference
it’s like you can feel how good it feels to sing with her voice by just listening to her.
she could make All Star by Smash Mouth sound like a sad beautiful song about heartbreak
Greatest cover of all-time. (Start at 2:07 if you're having any doubts.)

This is the best cover of this song. I'm here for it.
O.k. now I'm smitten. I've been on board for about a year now and now I'm smitten. She rules I hope she keeps singing songs.
haha this is so awesome who would have thought someone could make this AWESOME song into something to cry to
Your name kicks ass
Two years later and still as good as the day it came out :))
a perfect pop song sung by the world's best new singer/songwriter
For the last 15 years I always thought the lyrics were “got gym class in heaven with her”
Paul Bancroft, wow- i like that
Me too and honestly the truth disappoints me
She tweaked the lyrics on account of being a folkie.

The reverb on these tracks is so subtle and dreamy...
It’s twenty to three in the morning and I’m here. It’s worth it.
This is absolutely phenomenal.
Wow! Special kind of wonderful right here. Fly high Phoebe. Your awesome.
This cover shows what a great “overdrive voice” she has besides the angelic stuff we know from her albums
I always thought he started the bridge with "I need air" and that was my favorite lyric in the entire song. Now I learn he was just saying "Oh yeah"
I love how she sings with such angst. Like she’s really hurt and really in love with this person but she’s just this dirtbag.
I enjoy how she didn't change the pronouns or cut any of the lines out like so many covering this song do

Is Teenage Dirtbag secretly just a cover of Tom Pettys' Freefalling? If so can Phoebe just cover Frefalling? That would be amazing!
