Anytime it started to get scary or interesting a character would wake up the next day. It had to happen at least 6 or 7 times. There would be great tension and build up only to end with a character waking up the next day wondering what happened.

@BamaShanks I completely agree. It was a big fail for me, and i'm a long time Lover of anything vampire movie. Everybody has their own thoughts and opinions. It's just crazy to think that the majority of the people really liked this movie. I just thought it was kind of a dark comedy. I was laughing my ass off throughout the whole thing. My wife kept slapping my arm. Telling me it's not a comedy. It's a horror movie.🤣🤣🤣🤣And I would say,Well babe its funny to me, And another thing people are talking about, Oscar performances.Which one was an Oscar worthy performance? It was all over the top None of the performances felt real at all. They all felt comedic. I really
think they're just trying to get johnny depp's daughter her first oscar, In my opinion, this one wasn't it. Horrible she should go back to acting school

@ everyone I watched it hated it. Everyone around me in the theater seemed to hate it as well. I thought it was beautifully shot and there were some good performances and some bad, but the pacing was the only thing horrifying about the movie. I thought the scene with Orlok and Thomas at dinner was great until it cut to Thomas waking up on the floor. Nicholas Hoult acting scared in that scene was great. That is really the only scene that I thought was exceptional, but it was ruined by having Thomas wake up on the floor. At that point it was the 3rd or fourth time that had a character “wake up” after experiencing something.

      @BamaShanks Completely agree
The only thing that i've told people that I liked about it is that it was visually stunning the set pieces and just the world itself We're all well done I just don't feel like everything else fit the tone of what they were going for,Too many Comedic performances

Dracula in the novel had a mustache but Eggers only included the mustache on Orlok because it is historically accurate that Transylvanian noblemen had mustaches at that time period.
Vampires that have a mustache don't bother me at all so I don't get why everyone is bitching about it.

I loved the movie, but I also agree that Adam is trying really hard to be funny and used the same Roger Rabbit 'joke' twice in his review. Oh wait I mean- yeah... Everyone has different opinions... Sometimes a thing can be trash, mid, or peak as Gen Z taught us. The barometer for art we should all live by. Ermahgerd soooo boring and cringe. Am I crazy? Is it just special me? Am I the only one? Btw I didn't like Long Legs, but saying Maika Monroe's performance was "ass burgers" tells anyone with a working braincell all they need to know about your takes/criticisms ADAM.

Went to see it because everyone was raving about it and it was a snooze fest. Beautiful photography but frustrating watch, performances were kind of funny at times, not scary at all (wasn’t it supposed to be?)… orlok looked like Jim Carey’s dr robotnik with that mustache… one of my friends actually fell asleep… also it got kind of disgusting after a while, I’m not a prude, but all the moaning, hornyness, etc got annoying really fast. And what’s up with the necrophilia?? It was SO unnecessary and it didn’t seem like logical for that character to do that, to me it seemed that they didn’t know what to do with his character.

I didn’t have a bad time at the film. That said you are pretty accurate in your comments. This is a movie that is more style over substance. The issue is everyone wants to be a part of the next masterpiece. Every movie that is on the “artistic “ side of cinema will have its film snobs praise it to a point of hyperbole.
I also agree that the Lily performance was borderline goofy. It felt like she was trying to act possessed during a game of charades and her card was The Exorcist.

I really wanted to like this movie, but I really, really don't. It was boring, not scary at all. Depp's seizures, if can call it that reminded me of the Exorcist, especially when she was in bed. Orlock sounded asthmatic. Why such a healthy mustache on such a dead person? The "atmosphere" got to be oppressive, no breaks, just unrelenting. And if anyone thinks the costumes were spot on please take a look, and you can find them on line, of fashion prints online. This was not a Victorian era. Victoria didn't take the throne until 1837, just a year before the year of the movie's 1838 time. And men's pants did not have zippers! But that's me being picky. The movie left me feeling like I just lost 2 hours and 15 minutes of my life that I won't get back. I believe the audience felt the same, the guy behind me kept nodding off. I saw another leaving, I ran out as soon as the movie ended. I didn't leave because I thought something, anything would happen and it didn't.

I agree, this movie's story just never connected with me and when I wasn't cringing, I was either rolling my eyes or nodding off. The acting was over the top or even at times just a slog to listen to. People say Willem Dafoe took them out of the movie but I say Lily Rose Depp was so much worse and she's supposed to carry this film. As soon as Lily Rose started talking I knew it was going to be a bumpy ride, she was a complete caricature and all I could see was an actor reading lines.

When Orlock was finally revealed the entire cinema broke out in laughter. That was my experience with the movie.

While some of the scenes were hard to watch, I never felt fear or dread. And I agree that the movie could have been more fleshed out. For example, when the twins are killed, what could have been a terrifying moment, elicited no feelings in me. At the time I just thought my expectations were too high with all the hype, but it really didn’t live up to what should have been a horror movie.

The main protagonist was such a downer, always looking like she was about to cry to the point where I was thinking why is everyone obsessed with her? I thought the movie was beautiful to look at, but the story-telling was lacking. At some points, I thought Ellen needed an exorcist; maybe a Max Von Sydow would have been more helpful than Willem Dafoe. Nosferatu was very menacing to Ellen and those close to her, but I didn't feel the menace extended beyond that (despite the plague rats). The movie just fell flat for me overall.

@@-kdot-2332 Peter Jackson's King Kong was supposed to be a large cinematic spectacle for the progression of CGI which it still looks great to this day. Del Toro's Nightmare Alley was a classic Del Toro science fiction thriller with a winding story with twists and turns around your brain a bit. Calling both of those movies popcorn flicks are super disingenuous, even to King Kong when it's like 3 hours long if not longer I don't fully recall. Popcorn flicks would be something like Boy Kills World or Killers Game. Nosferatu is definitely an acquired taste when it comes to film. I'd say it's more of a visual centered film than story oriented which isn't bad, but it leaves everything feeling lacking and the story that is presented does little to hold me to the screen. I'm glad it's being praised so maybe he can create something new that I will enjoy, but this was just very disappointing and I do think it comes from people constantly droning on about it being something of greatness and award worthy.

Then it felt like a retelling of coppola's Dracula. The narrative unfolded very predictively and the ending left me unsatisfied. Like Adam, I found Niholas Hoult's performance wanting but I rather think it was the way the character was written. I kind of wished they gave that main role to Aaron Taylor- Johnson and as he has more emotional range. The gypsies were interesting and wish they added more to them in the story. And they should of further explored alchemy with Willem Dafoe character. I prefer the The Last Voyage of the Demeter over this film.

The pacing of the film seems off, the time frame should seem like a few months passed but it feels like a couple days. Also I wasn't a fan of orlocks design. The mustache to me was laughable, it looked like a janitors 13 year old push broom. I left a comment , said something about a24 being almost like a cult and personally I found the film in question a recycled 70s horror film in both the style and the script and it worries me how there's nothing but praise for their projects as film critics should not do promos for movies but review them. And there's always something to be critical about regardless of how great you might think the product is. She replied with the nastiest word salad I've ever seen and even said she would find me on her Patreon and block me because she doesn't want financial support from someone who doesn't love A24. After that I've stayed away from comments under those channels. It's really scary how they behave and how fast a simple comment gets a completely unhinged response.

@phoenixkirchoff5268 this version of vampire does a good job of highlighting the animus of the Victorian-era female sexual repression. She came of age and called for a fantasy and it festered into a monster. Her sexual desires were so sinful, it brought about a plague. And once she finally atoned for her sin, the city was saved. You can see Eve's original sin, the smiting of Sodom and Gamora, as well as Inqiluisition-era witch-hunting being reflected in this story.

I really do not understand why anyone would be so hyped about this film, it has endless issues, from weird uncomfortable twisted diddler like bedroom fun fantasy's that I found just laughable then gross, to even more sinful thing's like terrible pacing, plot amounting to the main characters not changing a single thing that was written, they couldn't make Nosferotu doubt for even 1 second that he would succeed, the film has a horrible way of showing the passing of time, it was so difficult to gauge if time had passed for the characters, like them being aware an time going by, them doing the usual daily stuff that even this film didn't want to subject us to, or if they became aware during the scene at hand, an they saw what we saw an only that, it was never made clear,
then there was the ultimate sin, it was just freaking boring,
so much so people walked out of my theater an never came back, something not even the red one- managed to do.
The ending was just so unsatisfying an not in a- the bad guy won bleek kind of way, it was just an atrocious story, shame to because they had amazing actors, ok crisp visuals, but the script man, it was just bad,
Plus it had endless scary movie skit moments, it made me wonder if they actually want the writers of the next scray movie to have lots of material, they basically wrote the jokes an skits for them, idk man it was awful in so many ways, plus I hated the way Nosferotu looked.

I didn't like it as much as I expected to like it. Out of the 15 people at the matinee with me and my daughter, at least 3 walked out halfway through. I think sitting through, literally, half an hour of previews, then sitting for another 2 hours and change of movie didn't help my enjoyment. Im going to give it another watch when it streams to see if I like it better. I agree with the points you brought up about what you didn't like about it. There were so many choices made in the course of this film that I didn't understand. His mustache was the icing on the strange cake that was this movie.

@elihyderart not even close to being an impatient viewer. I am a lifelong horror fan who, along with most subgenres of horror, loves found footage. I dont think I haven't sat through hours upon hours of crap that any normal person would shut off. If Im seeing a 2 hour plus movie in crappy theater seats, dont tack on an extra half hour of previews and crap. Im going to watch it again when it streams. Stop attacking with the same old nonsense that people dont have attention spans or patience when they aren't in 100% agreement with you. As any horror fan, I've given everything I decide to view a fair chance, even watching multiple times to really get into a story if I felt I've missed something. This movie had issues for me. I didn't hate it, but I wanted to like it more. That's why I will watch it again when it streams.

@@mrsmonster7020I had extremely high expectations for this. I was disappointed

@@mrsmonster7020you made good points. Funny how the people who love the film have only one response, which is to be condescending and say you're just a Marvel fan. That's rubbish because I am a huge fan of vampire/ gothic horror, have seen both previous Nosferatu films. This version is, to me, dull and cliched. But I would never abuse someone for liking it.

Gonna be an interesting review, most reviewers have praised this, like Long Leg's which was tripe.

After extensive research, I found out that the blonde in the movie is not hot af. And that Nasferatu is a rapper from the 90's turned Count in another country. The more you know.

I think it's all about what kind of horror affects you. I wouldn't call Nosferatu a scary movie, but I found it atmosphericly horrifying. Crushingly oppressive is how I described it to my wife. I can see that some will not enjoy how this is presented, but it carried me the while way through. I enjoyed the acting and presentation, and yes, the pacing. I haven't seen the Northman and didn't like The Witch at all. The one thing that really did bother me was how it seemed to snow relentlessly but the ground was always barely covered.
I did love the movie though. It just clicked for me in an old-school, almost fairy tale (albeit a dark and horrible one) way.
