Chocolate Fudge Pudding Cake

  • There’s a special type of magic when it comes to this chocolate fudge pudding cake. A quick batter is mixed together, and liquid is poured over the top. Once baked, the two layers flip, and a gooey pudding layer settles to the bottom while a fluffy cake layer floats to the top. It’s easy to bake and hits all the right chocolate notes!

    00:00 Intro
    01:03 Preparing the batter
    04:32 Preparing the chocolate topping
    07:55 Tasting the cake
    INGREDIENTS
    For the cake batter:
    - 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
    - 1/2 cup white granulated sugar
    - 3 tbsp Dutch process cocoa
    - 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
    - 1/4 tsp kosher salt
    - 1 large egg
    - 1/2 cup whole milk
    - 2 tsp vanilla extract
    - 4 tbsp melted butter
    - 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
    For the dry mixture
    - 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
    - 1/3 cup light brown sugar
    - 1/4 cup Dutch process cocoa
    - 1 1/2 cups hot brewed coffee (or hot water)
    INSTRUCTIONS
    For the cake batter:
    - Preheat oven to 350°F. Butter a 9×9 baking dish and set it aside.
    - In a large bowl, combine the flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Whisk to combine evenly. Add the egg, milk, vanilla extract, and butter. Whisk until completely combined and smooth. Add the chocolate chips and fold them into the batter. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
    For the dry mixture:
    - In a medium bowl, mix the white sugar, brown sugar, and cocoa. Sprinkle evenly over the prepared batter. Pour the hot coffee over the dry mixture and batter.
    - Place the baking dish in the preheated oven until the cake is puffed and set on top but jiggly around the edges and underneath the cake layer, 25-35 minutes. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and cool for 15 minutes before serving.

From my farm to your home. 🏡
My name is Kaleb Wyse and here, you will find delicious recipes, videos from my farm, garden, and fun home projects. My knowledge has been earned from years of home cooks and farmers in my family. wyseguide.com
A farm is much more than a house to live in; it’s a lifestyle. My passion for gardening and landscaping came from outdoor work with my mom in our expansive farm yard, my love for baking came from innumerable short walks to my grandma’s house to make cookies, and as a farmer, my dad taught me that we are the stewards of our land.
So whether you live in a city center or have decided rural life is for you, I hope to inspire you with the projects and recipes I use in daily life. We can’t all live on a farm, but we all need farms in our lives. From the dirt in my vegetable garden to the flour in my kitchen, I’ll show you everything I love to do.

    So glad you made this.
I am from West Virginia. My granny called this Brownie Pudding. She used coffee for the liquid as well. It is delicious. Granny also put a small amount of flaked salt on top. That makes it delicious as well.

I'm from Quebec Canada and we have a dessert we call "Pouding Chomeur" which is typically a French Quebec staple and reminded me a bit of your recipe…except it’s an easy homemade white/yellow cake in which we pour over a hot maple syrup, brown sugar & butter mixture and then cook in the oven - simply delicious! Does the same thing - cake floats to the top with a beautiful crispy edge because of all the delicous syrup and the maple liquid thickens at the bottom. You must try this! Of course eat this warm or reheat your pice every time YUMMY!

Coffee is the secret ingredient I use in my brownies. I brew decaf so my kids don't go crazy or stay up too late. It makes a big difference in the flavor. I sometimes add a very small dash of cinnamon too for more kick. Thank you for you the recipe. I love desserts like this that can be whipped up quickly while I'm making dinner.

@@mariannasharp3662 sorry for the super late response. I don't always get notifications from TH-cam. I replace the water with coffee, so usually about a cup depending on the recipe or if I'm using a box mix. It is not a substitute for butter. Butter is important. My Hungarian grandmother made this when I was a kid over 30 years ago, it was always my favorite dessert. Once when I was 10 or 11 I made it myself, and I decided that I wanted to add coffee to it to add a new dimension to the flavor. Well me being the naive pre-teenager, I used the Folgers brew coffee thst my parents had instead of instant coffee. Needless to say, my first try at the dessert was quite.....grainy lol. Lesson learned on my part.

This looks soooo good!! I haven't made chocolate fudge pudding cake in so long! But seeing your wonderful video made me see the light! lol Have to make it and with your recipe. I love it. Love lemon pudding cake too!! Both are yummy DELICIOUS!! Oh, as you were making it, I was thinking I'll bet that would be great with some expresso powder or coffee. 😊And there you go! Thanks!!

Cooked for my family, who loved it. Was hoping it would last more than one night. Nope. I added espresso coffee and Kahlua. Delicious. 😋

I remember the sheriff brand pudding cakes that we made in the micro. I now make it in the oven
I even have a recipe that is made in the slow cooker ,havent tried that yet though. I however will be trying your recipe.
