Sometimes when I hear people ask "how often should I upload per week?" it makes me think that people think there's only one type of videos created: their type.
It depends on so many factors! Your niche, but also your free time and the amount of work/effort that goes I to each and every video.......
Some of us shoot on location (outdoors) that needs some scouting, for 1 or 2 days. Then followed by multiple days of editing (hello, cinematic mood!) after a full day of work, so once a week is already proving to be pretty hard but doable because putting out videos is a real passion.
My two cents: create and upload as much as you can, as often as you can, without forgetting real life in the meantime ^_^
@PLAY FUN GAMES FOREVER you mean it's too little or too many? :) we're a super small niche, silent hiking and cinematic vlogs... maybe one day we'll grow, for now it's really a passion project.

@@missrelaxed3872 as often as you can means as often as it's possible for you. How is that not possible? Once a day, once a week, once a month or even less. That's as often as one can, depending on their time. We just think nobody should be pressured to publish at a certain rate. You're doing a great job btw

I started at posting 6 times a week when I began because I wanted to hit the ground running. 3 months in and I’ve dialed it in to 4 times a week (mwf and sat). This has helped tons with staying motivated, not getting overwhelmed, and having quality content for the viewers.
wow! i post twice a week but no one really watches my videos. I just have to be consistent and patient.
Itz LB keep going, man! Posting about certain subjects such as “how to ...” or answering questions, or even doing the basic TH-cam search for ideas. I’ve started doing search based content and it seems to have helped a ton.
Congratulations on continuing your journey on YT as most of the small channels I've seen have just lost motivation and stoped uploading be happy your one of them that hasn't that will give you huge success in the future I assure you of that.

Uploading more frequently has helped my channel more!
I just started my journey - not focusing too much on schedule, but trying to get out at least 1 video per week. Hopefully this will work out for me in the long run!
I've been posting twice per week for the past couple months and my average views per viewer is 2.9. My channel is definitely operating in a micro-niche, so that might help. Love the channel and appreciate what you do. Scott
So much truth here. Specifically about making a lot more videos in your earlier days and then once you're established making less new videos but in high quality. Also, I've recently made some videos that were top-notch but underperformed kompared to what I think they should be doing. Whereas videos that aren't that great are overperforming. That's always frustrating.

@@vidIQ Sure did. Back in April. I've sent you emails since, maybe that's why you've ignored me haha 🤣. I decided to make the TH-cam channel kind of its own unique subdivision. Maybe I should sign up for a channel audit again. You could kompare and kontrast the original you did from 2 years ago and how things have changed. But you have to wait until my merch store is opened first haha.
im uploading once a week and rn im getting half the views that i normally would
I can relate to this, my most popular video as of right now has 2.3k views and it took me like 20 mins to make it. On the other hand most of the videos that took me hours to make reach around 100 views or less.
I post twice a week, and it hasn't been working too well. I've actually been LOSING subscribers, I've lost 4 subs in the past week. Otherwise, I would be stuck at one number. I just have to be consistent and patient.
Well I upload 3 times/week and it worked out for me so I think I'll stick to that

It certainly helps develop watching habits with a community. But sometimes you need to be flexible.
Yes, it holds you accountable for keeping the schedule and gets viewers to anticipate your releases. I have plenty of content that I watch every Monday.
Some great tips here, thanks Rob. I think the last one around having a non-time sensitive video or two in reserve each month is a great suggestion and something I am going to try and do. As someone who is just 2 weeks in to the TH-cam journey I think this could be crucial for remaining consistent and having a sustained approach. 👍👍👍
Thank you very much for the info! I started my channel about 10 days ago. So far it's a means of getting the music I compose. It's been slow, yet steady in the number of views, and I post 2 or three times a week so far.
I am beginning to post every Monday at 7:00 A.M. because I also have to edit a podcast for my school newspaper Friday’s. So I’m pre-filming. I can’t wait for spring break, where I can have more free time.

I can for sure say that uploading more (it's easy for me since I'm a gaming channel) has helped me fine tune! My thumbs are getting better after practicing, and I'm able to see in my videos what could be better so I can fix it for the next one

I think every channel niche can be different and it's important to learn what your analytics are saying for your channel specifically. I started my channel with a heavy emphasis on variety so that I could then identify what people like the most. Now I have a good idea of what to double-down on, and when I make those videos I can see the real difference in Analytics!! Now I plan to schedule two videos per week, one being directly consistent and related to what people seem to like and then one with a bit more variety to see where I can grow and branch.
I uploaded a video just yesterday. It got 60 views in the first 24 hours, which according to TH-cam is around 8th place. It has a click though rate of 6%, which is a bit lower than usual, however those who watched the video, watched 50% of the video, which is a lot better than usual.
As an art channel, I think this suggests that the art is not the best it could be, because if it was unbelievably good, many people would click on it. But the video quality has improved, which is why people watched it for a while, and why 27/60 people liked (nearly half) the video.
So I think I should focus on the art, after all no matter how good the video's engagement is, if nobody watches it in the first place, that's obviously not good.. I find myself getting caught up in the numbers too much, not focusing on the art, which is the heart of my videos..
I only upload once every 1-2 weeks. I would like to upload twice a week, but it seems like once a week is all that is possible for now. Not sure how this relates exactly to the video, kind of just my personal experience.

Very insightful. Art channels can be the hardest to make more content for. You can think of ways to make more content out of individual pieces.
After you release a video, could you do a much faster time-lapse of the process? Or create a montage of moments where you're doing a similar technique? The editing takes time, but less energy than creating more works of art.

I’ve had a TH-cam channel since November and have been posting TH-cam shorts almost every day. They’re short art timelapses. And to be honest, it has been stressful because I also work full-time and I like making other art pieces too.
I think I’m gonna experiment with another channel to see if posting maybe four or five days a week might be more beneficial for my sanity and keep me motivated, because it’s getting more and more tiring to keep up with making more content on that channel.

Always you have something to add, THANKS a MILLION, I've been following for two years and every video added something to me.
I keep changing my upload frequency (mainly because I'm not very decisive and keep changing my mind) but whenever I've switched back to daily the watch time goes upwards - each video generally gets around 20 views (some go a bit higher every now and again). But I think most people who watch my channel probably watch it in the background whist listing on eBay (pretty common with reselling channels). I did a video once looking at the analytics - when I tried switching to weekly and it showed the watch time racing downwards and got feedback on that video that the smaller daily vlogs were easier to catch and look out for than the longer weekly ones which meant setting aside time to watch (and sometimes forgetting)
And totally get the random video getting all the views (again very small example views wise but I was testing out a toy dog to see if it was worth listing (it wasn't) - it probably took less than 10 minutes to record and not a huge amount of time to edit and now it's sitting at almost double the next most popular video (which also happens to be a testing video which also didn't take very long to produce!)
My channel can be so random sometimes I'm surprised it has any subscribers to be honest!

As an animator shorts are your absolute friend. It can give short snippets of what your working on. I try to do it a bit out of context just for laughs and so it doesn’t give away what I’m doing. Shorts have been amazing for my channel and to anyone who is hesitant I would say do it and see what works for you.

That's so key for small channels. You need to publish for experience and data, but you also need to make sure you understand your community and have a plan to grow your skills.

Also really appreciate the note at the end about the not putting expectations on video success. I've experienced that with most of my videos. My most watched video was one I wasn't even going to publish because it was really just a preview of a video I was making. Lol.

here's my take on this i started youtube "seriously" around a year ago but my upload consistency was bad and i took a long break and returned on yt again uploaded sum trendy videos which got views and I still maintained the bad consistency so even though my videos got views but the viewers were not prompted to subscribe to me cause I had bad consistency but I started to upload daily videos on my channel with good thumbnails, good seo and the next thing u know yo boi hit 100+ subs in about a week of consistency and now its been 2 weeks almost i guess and im growing daily and the views, the watch time and SUBS are increasing day by day , I think the major factor here is THE CONSISTENT UPLOADS, GOOD THUMBNAIL AND GOOD SEO good luck on your YT journey

I upload 3-4x a week but after I hit 100 videos, I'm going to take some time to really comb thru what works and what doesn't work.

ive been doing youtube for two years now, have 288 subscribers and was so close to quitting but saw your videos and they've been helpful for my mindset and I look forward to making a plan to better my channel. over the past 90 days I've has 56 returning viewers, 780 unique viewers and 25 new subscribers
on the point of quality, I'm hoping to have better quality videos but that needs money and equipment so it will take time, however, I will do better on editing and videography and hopefully, that helps..

Do you have any advice for uploading courses? if I upload a course on "how to make a game" it takes several videos in order to cover everything, but since each video depends on the previous one then later videos perform really bad, which I'm guessing hurts my channel overall (?)

I mainly do reaction videos to music and movie trailers, so for me uploading videos vary. If there's something I need to react to that just came out earlier that day then I will upload it. Also it's hard when working Full Time with the Mouse so sometimes if a music video comes out from one of my favorites artists and I'm too tired or don't have the energy, I'll do it the next day. Sometimes there's a day where there's no videos to react to, so I just don't upload that day. It's very inconsistent. But that's Full Time life working for the mouse

Hey Rob I just had an idea for TH-cam shorts. Can you use shorts like a trailer for an upcoming video to get your subscribers excited and then post the video a few days later. Bc by then the yt short trailer will start to gain traction bc it usually takes a few days for yt to show it and once that short is on the yt shorts tabs then new viewers will watch the trailer and then check out the video you just published? Can you test this out please

I played around with mine to see where I got the most views. 3 saw a slight drop off, 2x week seems to get me max for my channel size. I haven’t tried to drop down to 1 per week, as I think that’s too far apart for my niche

With the good content that you have in your channel, you should do it everyday I think! I saw your last video, it's very informative!

My average is currently 1.1, but I know that's gone down since I started publishing shorts. However, as I've been gaining subscribers from them, too, there's a balance that, as a very small channel, I think is worth it.
Interesting how the experience of youtube videos you DON'T put a lot of work into are often the ones that are successful, the same thing happens to us songwriters. Probably true with any form of art I imagine.
