    I have no doubt, NO DOUBT, that the girlfriend knew all about his scam. She knew because otherwise how did the plaintiff know to come to her. She had every right to ask where her merchandise or money was. Every right. If you scam someone, you have to expect that they're going to confront you about it. The mother was correct that a box that big with tissue paper would absolutely weight about 8 lbs. It's not a small box and the bigger the box, the more it weights. The average shoe weights 2.5-3 lbs each. That's 6 lbs roughly. If she had 24 pairs of shoes that would weigh 144 lbs. 8 lbs isn't anywhere close to that. He has a record and that means he's done this before. This is why you don't do deals with people you don't know. Good on JJ that she was able to help the plaintiff recoup some of the money.

    • @those_eyes

    A ream of paper is clear intent to deceive. Even if a quarter of the shoes were in that box it would weight more than 8.2lbs. Clearly this was a scam. Good job on the plaintiff for really proving her case.....

    • @darlenefraser3022
      @darlenefraser3022 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @alyssaheller7860 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Some people think they are smart/clever and then make real dumb mistakes. For example, there are plenty of examples of people committing fraud thru the mail like this case (i think the internet has embolden many people, and they dont realize some basic things about regular mail) and they claim to mail something, and dont realize the importance of why the post office and other mailing services weigh items. It is not just for charging more for heavier items, well, may officially be for that and the innate more difficult-ness of moving heavier items for delivery, but that isnt the only thing it is used for and also, can tell people some important information about whatever was shipped, or NOT shipped.
      You know, it is a lot easier in MANY ways, to just live an honest life and treating other people fairly and with kindness and consideration. Seriously. And scams are trashy. They are a shitty way of existing in the world. Scamming and defrauding others. It isnt hard to just be a decent person. It's just not.
      But if you are gonna do something like this, some advice, ALWAYS prepare for someone confronting you and atleast try to make it harder to get caught by LE.

    I’m disappointed in Judge Judy on this one. She seemed way too confused about the weight of 14 pairs of shoes. Even if the order was split into 2 boxes, as the scammers claimed, there’s no way that half of that would only weigh 8.4 lbs. Clearly a ream of paper and the box would weigh that. She could’ve put a scale on her bench and weighed it right there. The 8.4 lbs on the shipping receipt was the smoking gun. Not just his rap sheet. She almost ruled wrong, until his criminal record came into play, however she didn’t pay attention to all the evidence that was there.

      I completely understand what you’re saying. It seems like everyone else is slow or confused and it’s saying oh that rap sheet really turned it around, but I agree with you. There was plenty of evidence that showed he did it and not some Fed ex worker in the beginning after she said that she took the box back to FedEx and they weighed it. That was sealing the deal for me. If the box weighed something different when they initially sent it off, I would have agreed that a worker may have stolen it, but he was acting and doing too much stuttering.
