I’ve always been captivated by Nancy Wilson and her voice is so beautiful.

The summer I was 15 I spent in California with my father, who I hadn't actually seen since I was 5. I had gotten the Dreamboat Annie album for my birthday and I must have run a needle through that thing 1000 times that summer. When I hear any Heart song it takes me straight back to that beautiful, scary, sunny, short, endless summer. I still know every song word for word.

Hi! I get what you're saying! There is something about that Dreamboat Annie album that just takes you to a place that no other album does. Love it. Thanks so much for listening! I really appreciate it.

Breathtaking version of a beautiful song. The significance of this being in Seattle is of course that it's their home town. (Ann took quite a few of the grunge heroes under her wing in the 90s, perhaps most notably Jerry Cantrell, whom she remains close friends with). But yeah, the hands of Bernie Taupin are apparent in these lyrics - they stand out among their songs of the era.
EDIT: Their change of style in the 80s was mainly pushed by their label. From what I understand they were quite happy with the success that followed, at least initially, but that they eventually felt estranged from that whole aesthetic. To my ears the production of that era is of course often very dated, but songs such as These Dreams (1985) are so good that they transcend the production, at least when performed by these two incredible sisters. I mean, this live version is not that far removed from the original in terms of arrangement. It's just that the drums sound like drums and not like your typical 80s gun shot style of drum sound.

I was at this concert...it was at the restored Paramount Theatre Diwntown....Ann's opening in the video from Alone was filmed upstairs in the lobby of this theatre.. The theater is very intimate, they were very casual, it was a wonderful night...great talent....

Ok, now I'm officially jealous. Saw them many years ago, so it was nice to hear that this song (which is a favorite of mine) still sounded so great.

IDK if it's physically possible to sound better w/age? But, goddamn these two sure do. Nancy is a top notch vocalist right up there w/Ann, just a different style and approach. beautiful voice.

Hey Bob. You mentioned Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/Starship. Yes ,These dreams was co-written by Bernie Taupin. He co-wrote it with Martin Page, who also co-wrote We Built This City by Starship.
You have reacted to a song by Halestorm, lead singer Lzzy Hale has said that Heart is one of the first, if not the first, band she heard that showed her that ,yes, girls can do this too.

A couple other songs from this same concert..One is Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters sung by Nancy which is a cover of Elton John's song..Another one of my favorites is Dog and Butterfly by Ann..Another The Battle Of Evermore cover of Led Zeppelin no one has done a reaction to it..All 3 is up here at this same concert..Check it out..There great...

Dog and Butterfly is another one that would have fit perfectly on Dreamboat Annie. Mona Lisa and Mad Hatters is one, if not my favorite, Elton John song. Marren Morris also did an amazing job on that song.

I don't know if you mentioned this or not (I may have missed it), but some extra info: These Dreams was first offered to Stevie Nicks, who turned it down, then Heart picked it up, and it became their first and only #1 Billboard song.

Hi Bob, are you familiar with Hearts sideproject The Lovemongers ? they made a crackin cover of Led Zeppelins battle of evermore for the movie Singles in 1992

Hey Tom. No. I'll definitely have to look into that. I can see Ann cranking that from her vocals!

You may have noticed a tiny difference on the voice of the studio version, which has just a hint of raspiness in it. (Think Kim Carnes.) Nancy was a little ill during the original. There is a little different "color" to her voice (not worse, nor better,..,just different). I think the "sweeter" quality in great.

Heart is such a great band. If you haven't watched their tribute performance of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center, it would be nice to see you react to it. It's fabulous. You mentioned how bands like Jefferson Airplane lost their way when they become Jefferson Starship. What about Chicago Transit Authority?

    • @ModernLifeForThe70sMind
      @ModernLifeForThe70sMind  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Chicago fell into the same trap that The Doobie Brothers did. They went from these cool rock bands into soft, mellow rock. Personally, I think that move destroyed those bands. Just my humble opinion. ;)

@@ModernLifeForThe70sMind you can add Fleetwood Mac and Roxy Music to that list as well, Bob.

@@jerrylarocque9600 I agree! I'm not a big fan of the 90s. Not saying that all the songs were bad. I just wasn't crazy about the "sound". They took away the sound of a "band" and replaced it with electronic sounds. Just didn't sound genuine to me anymore.
