“The king lingering long in his prayers when he should’ve in battle”, got me thinking about AD Robles recently talking about how our theology of what is good for a man today or what is really pious is to spend ALL of your time reading your Bible, praying, consuming very high theological teachings, in short, to be a Pastor. All objectively great and necessary things, but not every man is called to be a pastor, which is what we’re led to believe is the only way to be a good or obedient Christian man.

People always talk crap about Christians for the Crusades, yet they completely ignore the fact that the Crusades were the very first time in history that Muslims were on the defensive. Their entire history is full of them constantly conquering non Muslims and subjecting them to slavery and butchery.
They call Muslims peaceful and innocent during the Crusades even though Europe was attacked FIRST! They sacked Rome, Constantinople, and conquered the Iberian pennensula and would of conquered all of Europe if not for Charles Martel (Charles the Hammer) crushing them at the battle of Tours. All of which happened BEFORE the Crusades. Not to mention, the Middle East was also primarily Christian until Islam took it by the sword.
Europe was full of warring nations until they got tired of the Muslim abuses and decided to band together to deal with the threat once and for all. It was literally a counterattack, but again, modern people just want to rewrite history and act as though Muslims were the victims.

As to the "staying in the prayer closet point"--reminds me of Exodus 14:15, where the Lord says to Moses who is on the banks of the sea ready to cross, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the people of Israel to GO FORWARD." There is a point when it is time to leave the prayer closet and move!

“Is not this the word that we did tell thee in Egypt, saying, ‘Let us alone, that we may serve the Egyptians? For it has been better for us to serve the Egyptians, than that we should die in the wilderness.’” V.12
The battle of the English vs the danish wasn’t won despite extended time in the prayer closet, but probably because he was in it. Providence demonstrates that they were not needed in the battle at that time until the fleeing of the danish. I disagree with their point here. I can promise you that praying too much is not an he current issue that the church is facing today.

@cristinamIn historical circles, "revisionist" refers to the removal of incorrect ideas and sticking to the cold, hard facts. For example, a LOT of people online today claim they descend from Edward III. If they have English ancestors, chances are good this is true, but it's no guarantee.
A revisionist would go through all the paperwork and other documentation and piece together the facts. If he finds no relation to Edward III, the family might accept the facts, or they might complain that he's wrong, saying, "he's just a revisionist." Yes, he's revised their false history, but he did so using facts, not feelings, and his work is correct.

This is actually a subject I'm very interested in as the history of the Crusades, and the historical figures, demographics of the soldiers, geography, and even the reasons behind it, are quite comprehensive. One aspect I was reading about a few months back was regarding the various heresies they had to confront and how they went about handling them. I found that fascinating. It takes time to learn and research it.
It's definitely true, which is very bizarre in American Christianity, that it is either whitewashed, scorned, distorted or ignored altogether. I've personally taken to collecting books and following folks, many of whom are Christian, who go through this history. I'm nowhere close to being where I want to be yet with knowledge of this history. It's quite interesting and quite valuable overall.
    Anyway, good segment and discussion.

I believe it is more a case of God “turning us over” to our deviant desires ( as in Romans 1:18-32) God has reached out to us for over 2000 years, but His patience with us is waning. Certainly, judgement and wrath IS on the way, but for now, as we live under grace, our biggest enemies are ourselves, our own wicked hearts.

Don’t underestimate the ruthlessness of the female nature. Women of valour are seen in the Old Covenant. Deborah, Miriam, etc. And they are actually ruthless when necessary.
But while that response may be called upon in certain situations such as the defence of her children, the required ruthlessness damages and wounds her nurturing soul.
It’s also wise to consider that the desired ideal of male protector and authority is not always present or even visible on the horizon…..

A king lingering in prayer when they ought to be at battle, and yet coming out tops, seems like a good thing happened, right?
Seems like Providence at work, if we are to think biblically. But beyond that, it offers us no generally or widely applicable principle.
He lingered in prayer, for we do not know what reason (probably God's restraining hand so as direct the succession in a certain way and to take the glory that belongs to Him) a good thing. And his brother fought a mismatched battle, weighed against his side, and won. Couldn't we simply say the persevering prayer supplied strength? And courage? To those at the front? Like Moses praying and Joshua fighting? And all things worked together for good? As to that singular occasion? Can't we say those and move on, without canonising the moment as a post-millenial moment? Doing things trumping lingering prayer?
    Extra-biblical History isn't Scripture.
In Scripture, we saw where prophet Samuel lingered, clearly on the side of God. And we saw that Saul took steps to start the battle, afraid the enemy would get the upper hand due to Samuel's lingering. And we saw God's judgement on Saul for not waiting. And trusting that God is never late and that His purposes cannot be thwarted.
So, no. While I like that story, I do not like the stretch it's being taken to. Seems contrived: finding a story to affirm a preferred post-millenial narrative.

Theology, just like politics, makes for strange bedfellows. So when are you starting a crusade against unbelievers, Joel? Lol. Just joking. But I now see why on other videos why you stated that you thought that Christianity started a downward trajectory starting with the Reformation. A Baptist minister opining over the halcyon days of the Crusades … who woulda thought? But I did enjoy this video … in a weird sort of way.
P.S. Just went back and re-listened to some of the arguments. Couple thoughts: 1) Interestingly, just heard a dispensationalists making similar arguments about the suicidal tendency of contemporary America. So dispensationalists don’t necessarily disagree with much of the cultural analysis of these post-millennialists. I mean, it’s not as if dispensational baptists are voting for legalized abortion, LGBTQ rights, and wokeism. So there seems to be much common ground in terms of social analysis and voting patterns between these post-millennialists and dispensationalists . And 2) I think much of the political problem in the United States revolves around the structure of our constitutional democracy. I sum up our government this way: the winning candidate is the candidate or position that convinces the most number of sinners to vote for them. The United States, like every country in the entire world, is populated completely and wholly by sinners. And they vote to legalize their sin. And that’s the United States in a nutshell. So don’t be surprised that conservative evangelicals are fighting a losing battle against abortion (according to the latest FOX news poll, 70% of Americans support legalized abortion with few, if any, restrictions), Social Justice, LGBTQ rights, and various other aspects of the woke agenda.

Another term it would be helpful for you to define for me would be “Christendom.” what do you mean by it precisely? I feel like as Protestants, that is something worth mentioning. And whether you like it or not, Muslims *have* contributed greatly to science, math, and literature. Even paper and the musical instruments we enjoy come from them. Protestantism didn't exist during the Crusades, so it is strange you would defend them. Also, these "defenders of the faith" sacked Constantinople. The British Empire may have done some good, but it also oppressed other Christians like the Irish and the Boers.

"It is not you [Samuel] that they have rejected; they have rejected me as King." America was the first nation in a long time to succeed at being what Israel was meant to be: a Christian constitutional republic. Atheist republics are the chaotic copy-cat thing not the original. The truth is that Constantine was just as antichrist and evil as all of the other Roman emperors who opposed the truth of God. History is written by the victors, and the false Roman church acquired the political and ecclesiastical power to control the narrative. It portrayed its history as Christ conquering paganism. However, traditional Christianity ironically became the means through which all of the sun worshiping religions kept themselves alive.

The truth about Constantie is that he barely converted to Christianity towards the end of his life. The only thing he did for Christianity is make it legal in the Roman world where Christians had to hide, celebrate the Mass in the catacombs, and eat the Eucharist is secret. He did see, however, that those Christians were good people, and peaceful who always helped those in need. So he legalized Christianity( and lets be clear. When I say Christianity I mean Catholicism), he returned to them their properties which had been seized by the Roman pagan government.
The whole idea that he's the one who invented the Cathlic church and forced everyone to be Catholic is a Protestant fallacy constantly told by people who hate the Catholic Church, like the guy who replied before me.

@@cristinamz2137 I have been studying history for decades and already have a degree in it. I referenced a historical, primary source. What 'hate' are you talking about about? Is it 'Protestant hate' to critique the papal Crusades while holding to just war?
Is it because I referred to the Confessional Protestant position, in the Lutheran, Presbyterian, Baptist confessions (and historically in the major leaders of the church of England) that referred to the papacy as an institution, a succession of men(not some individual Pope) as the Antichrist? Who else is the Man of Sin who seats in the Temple of God, that is, the Church? Who else is the city that sits on seven hills and that is symbolically called Babylon? What other city has been drunk with the blood of saints besides pagan Rome and Papal Rome? I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only Head of the Church, as Scripture teaches. I dont believe the bishop of Rome is also the Head of the Church, as that is a unique office that can only be held by the Meditator who is both God and Man, the Lord Jesus Christ. For anyone to claim to hold an office that only the Lord Jesus Christ can hold is offensive to Protestants. I would also note that the followers of the Pope of Alexandria or the Russian or Greek Orthodox don't think the bishop of Rome is the Head of the Church. Be clear, do you?

What is clearly showing is your biased education against the Catholic Church. It is evident that you are incapable of assessing it with fairness, which all that we as Catholics have ever asked. And just to be clear, please understand that Catholics believe Christ is the head of the Catholic Church, because HE founded it. The Pope is only His vicar, meaning His major domo. And yet, even with your proclaimed disdain for the office of the Pope, you make yourselves mini- popes, claiming all authority to interpret scripture and invent new dogmas, dogmas that had been unheard of before the Protestant Revolt of 1517. You declare yourselves heads of your own churches and give yourselves authority that was granted to you by no one. Yea, I'm speaking of Luthetans, Baptists, Calvinisys... and the list can go 100 names deep.

@truthisbeautiful7492 All of this to show how utterly ignorant you are of Catholicism, even with your advanced degree. 🙄 No, the so called " Orthodox " bishops don't recognize the pope's authority, they are the original Protestants. 😉 They are heretical in the sense that their loyalty is placed with their nation state before it is placed to Christ. This is why the name of their countries come first. This is also why whenever there is a war between those countries, they take up their flags, just like the Ukrainian Orthodox is doing against the Russian Orthodox rigth now. They will eventually destroy themselves, if the Muslims don't finish them off first.

    • @cristinamz2137
      @cristinamz2137 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@truthisbeautiful7492 Let me now tell you what we Catholics think about the office of the Pope. First, Jesus Christ himself is the Head of the Catholic Church, bcause He is the one who founded it. The Pope is a major domo, simply an overseer of the Church. The major domo is always given the keys, by the King Himself, to His Kingdom, to keep affairs in order while the King is
"Preparing a place" for us in heaven. Yes. CHRIST IS KING. And the Pope is His Major Domo, meaning Christ left him in charge.
As an American Protestant, this whole thing about submission rubs you the wrong way. It's as if rebellion was baked into your DNA. But God requires submission to authority, to HIS authority via the Apostles and their successors whom He left in charge of His Church. Humble yourself, stop rebelling you prodigal son, and come back home to the Catholic Church.

Reigning queens are contrary to scripture. The people who had them probably justified it on the grounds that there was no direct male heir, but it was still wrong. In the case of a king with only daughters, the daughter should have been required to marry, and her husband should have become king. That is how it is done in fairy tales. In fact, I recall reading that Prince Albert was actually king for all intents and purposes, so the greatness of the morality of Britain during that time is probably due not to Victoria as such, but to the clean-up operation that Albert led when he moved into the palace. It's a shame he died so young, and that Parliament refused him even the title of King Consort due to him being a foreigner..

    1 Timothy 2:13
13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve, 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman, because she* was deceived, came into transgression.
Women are easily deceived. Look at the mess the West is in.

@@cristinamz2137That is a phrase used by Nazis. I don’t think it is a good thing to encourage that.

You guys say "calculus" but I'm pretty sure you meant "algebra". The term algebra sounds arabic as indeed its origin is from the time before Islaam destoyed intellectual pursuits in the region. Calculus is like 500 or so years later when Europeans used algebra and real numbers to understand calculus. Elements of calculus were known to experts thousands of years ago, like China, or Archimedes.

As an older Christian cop that has to go out in the street on a daily basis in a city that has been over run with criminals, its nice to see masculine pastors that are giving us strong Christian role models that real men can draw strength from in a daily walk where most men are content to be feminized.

We're supposed to reach out to the Jews, not condemn them and there is nothing wrong with our late brother Tim Keller
