The short answer is that most of the easily accessible sources are outdated when it comes to Chinese submarine numbers, and the number 6 has been floating around for a while. The US government has estimated that China had 6 active Type 094s (both variants) back in early 2021. However, in April 2021, an additional Type 094A was commissioned publicly by President Xi (a very rare occurrence for new PLAN ships), along with a Type 075 LHD and a Type 055 destroyer. So at the very least you now have 7 vessels, if the initial US assessment was accurate. Furthermore, a photo is available with what appears to be 4 of the original Type 094s in the same frame (although to be fair an old Type 092 can be easily mistaken for a 094), and we know from the PLAN footage I have shown in the video that there was at least two Type 94As in service. This again makes 6 boats at the start of 2021, assuming that PLAN hasn't upgraded the Type 094s into 094A. Plus the single newly commissioned 094A will again yield 7 boats. There are also more up-to-date western sources that estimate as many as 10 boats that are either in service or launched, and these are from fairly well-informed people. Personally, I consider 10 too high given the paucity of footages and other evidence, however. Anyway, sorry for the wall of text, and hopefully it illustrates where I got my 7-8 figure from.
@@EurasiaNaval please cite those sources. The 2021 CMPR from last Nov still had 6. USSTRATCOM/Admiral Richard has said multiple times this year there are only 6. The estimate you're referring to from early last year was already counting the last 094A that was about to be commissioned...
If you look up the third link under my references, it will show a breakdown of the photos the authors analysed of the Type 94. They estimated 8-10 boats. They even labelled their photo assessment of the submarines (persumably this includes the number of subs they quoted in each photo) as "indisputable data" - perhaps a case of bad translation from French, but the point stands that they are confident of their assessment. In the thread on SDF on the Type 093/094 submarines, the general feel I got from reading the posts is that people believe there are more than 6 boats. Also, just know I am trying to respond to a lot of comments from my phone, and its hard to link stuff on this device. China is dependent on automation in their military, but very few of its military members know how to maintain these devices and many of China's military advanced hardware is out of service for repairs or upgrades.....
Are their Yuan class diesel submarines the ones that use German engines? They had some trouble selling one to Thailand which insisted on their sub having the original German engine instead of a Chinese made engine?
I don't believe the Yuan class uses the German engines. This is because the Germans stopped supplying their MTU 396 diesel engines for the previous Type 039 Song class, and China built the last few boats of that class with its domestic Shaanxi diesels. It wouldn't make sense for the Germans to supply new engines for the subsequent Yuan class, and China can make its own engines anyway. I won't speculate on why Thailand insists on China honouring its original contract to include a German engine. There's too much variables in that to spell out in a short comment.
As a country i wouldn't buy submarine made in China. Their highly secretive government kept development failures.several reports of crews trapped failing to surface.submarine operation is sophisticated, even on the engine used they could not copy german know how.any country who would buy its submarine at its own risk. See what happened to their fighter jet development.
Well in Taiwan we frequently had American made helicopters crashing and killing everyone inside, because they are low quality products that were bought for political reasons rather than having any practical value. A top general and his staff were killed a couple of years ago when his black hawk crashed. Our government should be suing the US for the lives their bad equipment had claimed.

I won't suggest whether or not Thailand should buy this submarine - that is Thailand's decision. What I will say is that I don't think Thailand has actually made up its mind on what they want, because of the internal political situation, as you say. If Thailand doesn't want this submarine, it should just say that to China. Yes, there will be diplomatic consequences, but if Thailand want to cancel the deal anyway, it is better to say this now rather than later. China I am sure can use the submarine in its own navy, or sell to another country, so there is no lasting financial losses except a loss of face.
as with everything, it depends on what you buy. if you buy the cheapest of the cheapest, the quality will be bad. most of my electronics(and probably yours) are made in china either partially or completely. so far i havent had any issues.

CHINA'S defence technology is modern & no. 1 ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🇨🇳🙏🙏🙏🙏
@@EurasiaNaval at first this contract sign in junta era and RTN got pressure from junta to buy yuan class even all time RTN was go to learn know how in Germany which is the decision that make public opinion were suspecious and criticism navy hard even so navy try to still the project with hard lobbying in defense committee of parliament and hide many data to the public. In the topic of engine many times Chinese can use civilian sterling engine in thier submarine but with new green light coalition with green foreign minister had to sight on china and ban the engine export to china completely.
Right now , they have some rumors to give song class or use Chinese engine but it really hard to happen because submarine always watch by anyone and with a lot of scandal that expose in recent years so it is uneasy situation to continue the project without risk of government collapse.
Buying submarine in Thailand always negative in Thailand for two decades but choosing china submarine is going to the worst.
The deal like these was happen before with some surface ship that china make alot of that but submarine in that time alot of submarine proposal mostly new and never use or built such as China Korea Sweden (except Germany)
From current public opinion or may be parliament are more support to built another Korea frigate in Thailand for investment return benefits to Thai and submarine project must be cancelled nevertheless this fiasco hit relationship between RTN and china hard and ruin RTN in public eye alot as the most focus internal research and development brance of military in Thailand.
Do not say how strong just say how weak is the chinese navy submarine ,because china does not have any subs in any previous wars got it?
Don't ask go and find out, yourself
If they are rubbish, then nothing for the USA to fear about.
Like an old rusty truck driving down the road
Neither u nor i know how strong is chinese navy unless they r war proven...😂😂😂
China beat the shit out of US in Korean & Vietnam war without a navy and airforce. What do you think about now?
I’m gonna go out on a line and say that they’re not that good
You got that right.

Do you mean that Russian submarine?
@@tforaodg not all submarines are Russian like arihant claas, kalvari class , sindughosh class etc
You mean those communist made diving coffins ?
@@suyashpandya540 those are german and French . Theres nothing called 100% indian made submarine.
They are good enough to sneak into neighboring and regional backward countries territorial water without any detection, i would not be too surprised many of these countries are unaware when Chinese submarine sailed around their coastal water. Since they don't see it, they never know it ever happened. 👮🏼♂️👨🏼✈️
Chinese subs also sank a US sub months ago
Same applies to the devious USA.

五常都有的,英国有前卫级,法国有凯旋级,单从094的技术水平来说确实五常吊车尾,但是改型后的094B,以及传说中的096我倒觉得确实有一定可能性进前三。

Just an advise, I suggest you not to use NATO codenames of PLA subs, those names are so ridiculous and unclear, at least for me.😐
I think it's worth mentioning the NATO codes for each submarine just once, for informational purposes, but I agree for an overview video like this, it is better to stick to the original Type 0XX name for all subsequent references for consistency, because there are many classes to cover and it is easy to get confused. For a video on just a single submarine class, I would feel OK with using the NATO and Chinese terms interchangeably. Feel free to disagree
@@EurasiaNaval Oh sorry, my point is that NATO codes of Chinese subs are somehow unreasonable and chaotic, like they just put all those subs together and randomly pick one of Chinese dynasty names to them and it always make me confused. Great video, my apology if you feel offensive🤢
No need to apologise - no offense was taken. Thanks for your support

A lots of people don't know that submarine don't need engine to move. Underwater current can actuarially move one to three knots. Though I like the image of submarine in river.
water noise in river are way nosier than the ocean, it make Chinese subs seems quiet.
