    In fact, we don't really know that we are taking this much amount of energy in an hour.
    But if we had to think about it, one guess would be that it would take about 50 years or so to produce this amount of energy. So storage solutions should be prioritized in this urgent problem.

    JUST one thing. Energy storage not involving BEV, so a home unit or grid storage needs to be made using two different technologies. The technology here is fine for home storage units.
    NO lithium solution is good for grid storage regardless of the fact it's being used already. The amount of grid storage needs is much too large to use any of these elements.
    The only GOOD solution I've seen for grid storage is iron REDOX flow batteries, where the main two ingredients is water and iron. There ARE no rare earth materials in it. And while lithium isn't rare earth, the demand based on BEV will already be great so using lithium for grid storage too just doesn't work well. It would take too long to get to the amount of grid storage needed.

He is simply someone willing to step outside the box when it comes to technological thinking. The best solution is to use redux flow batteries for grid storage and lithium based batteries for automotive.
    Flow batteries have 30+ year lifespans without degradation. But lower energy density.
    This allows higher energy density batteries to focus on mobile applications. Allows for faster scaling of storage solutions and less resource competition.
    A 4000 cycle life for a battery is only a 10 year life if charged daily. Not great for grid storage. Ok for a car.

    • @rogerphelps9939
      @rogerphelps9939 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Actually 4000 charge cycles is 4000 full charge cycles. Daily charging will only rarely be a full charge. Suppose a car has 300 miles range and the battery lasts 4000 full charge cycles. The expected number of miles that the car can cover in the battery lifetime is 4000x300 = 1,200,000 miles. This means that the battery will outlast the car. I believe current lithium ion batteries are good for 1000 full charge cycles; that still gives 300,000 miles lifetime range and very few cars are going to get anywhere near that.

    • @hugegamer5988
      @hugegamer5988 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People are dumb.
      EV batteries need to have very high specific energy and power density, both on a volume and mass basis. They need to withstand vibration and be extremely tough, they need to charge or discharge fully at very high rates of just a few minutes. They can be quite expensive on a kwh/charge cycle lifetime.
      Grid storage batteries have no energy or power density requirements. They can be extremely fragile and not handle vibrations at all, and are fixed in place by rigid installation. They only need to charge over hours or days and discharge the same way. They need to be extremely cost effective on a kwh/charge cycle lifetime.
      They couldn’t be more different design requirements yet dumb people go duhhhhh um lithium! Maybe on a minutes to hour they can be short term cost effective in niche locations but the reality is we need better grid storage solutions that aren’t lithium based.

    • @rogerphelps9939

    1,800 times recharge at high temperatures comes out to 4.9 years of daily charge battery life for 1,000KM or 630mile range. I’m sure those kilometers/miles won’t be consumed within a day but perhaps a week of extensive use. If battery is recharged weekly it would give a life expectancy of about 34 years which is more reasonable. If Tesla develops an easy swappable battery pack to renew batteries after “X” amount of time to extend the life of vehicles for a reasonable maintainable price, this would be an indefinite game changer.

    If it provides 240 Wh/kg and a Tesla model Y gets 3.26 miles per kWh, then to have a 326 mile range, it will require 100 kWh, but since only about 80% of charge should be used, it'll actually need about 125 kWh which will require about 520 kg of battery (excluding the weight of the battery charging and monitoring system, the inverter, the battery case, and the associated cabling).
    An ICE car that gets 32.6 mpg can achieve that same range with 10 gallons of gasoline, but let's similarly expect you want that range with 20% reserve, so the tank will need to hold 12 gallons and 12 gallons of gasoline weighs about 34 kg. That's 484.5 kg less than the EV battery. The gasoline only weighs 6.7% of what a battery weighs.

      And all that heat has to dissipate somewhere, and the oceans are already at their safe absorption limits. The basic nurseries of our oceans, the reefs, are already bleaching and dying because of excess heat. It is all a system, kill one piece of it and it all dies...and us with it. The Earth can reach a new stasis without us.

LFP doesn’t charge in freezing temperature, and any variants that does do so at very low C rate. Unless LMFP matches cold weather charging performance similar to MNC this video is advertisement for Gotion.

    Tesla has several battery factories. I don't think they'll start buying batteries from a company in China. Tesla may be planning to produce their own LMFP batteries. The USA will be the top lithium producer in a year or two. Tesla has a patent on a new lithium extraction process. They drill a well kind of like an oil well. Exxon Mobile has already announced that they are drilling for lithium in south Arkansas. The new lithium refinery in South Texas should go into production in 2024. This will end the lithium rock ore mines in the USA.

    4680 production at Hawthorne ramping, new 4680 production in China, and Berlin back in Tesla's battery plans. Tesla is not committed to any single battery chemistry, as long as it's safe, reliable, efficient, and can scale with Tesla's production needs. Tesla still needs a large US battery supplier because Panasonic has not scaled its US operations to meet Tesla's demand, which is why Musk decided to do the lithium refinery himself, ..."like printing money". Who doesn't want to supply batteries for Tesla? [WATCH OUT ...] if Tesla gets the 'dry' anode/cathode chemistry working, because that will be a game-changer. Tesla doesn't care who supplies the batteries as long as they fit in Tesla's packs.
