  • Important front end maintenance for all Super Duty owners. We have been taking our 2019 F250 to the dealer for oil changes, i don't think they have put grease in the half shafts! We also put full synthetic oil in this engine since new! We recently switched to AMSOIL full synthetic, check it out - • If I DIE my son WILL K...

    Many thanks for this video. I forgot where they were and was just under the truck doing an oil change. Like you, I had been taking the truck in for oil changes and decided to do it myself because of the time spent going to get it done and now the cost of gasoline. It's almost 50 miles round trip to the mechanic in my rural area. That's just about $16 of gas in May, 2022.

    If you’re not in 4WD, there’s no stress on those u-joints. Also, in 2WD and hubs on Auto, you can turn the u-joints by hand to get the grease fittings in a good, accessible spot.

      ahah ! Thanks for the tip on the unlocking the front hubs on my SD. My OBS 7.3 I don't have electric and always unlock to roll highway, but the newer truck is like you said. My truck had front end done over and has fittings everywhere.. But, they put them on upper ball joint and the half shaft makes it impossssssible to go on straight, mabye need a 90degree zerk IDK. Figuring it out.

    I went under my 2023 F350 XL STX CC today looking for these; found out that apparently they don't have the zerks anymore. Found a thread on the Ford Trucks forum also that confirmed. I was disappointed; was ready to do some simple maintenance!

    Crazy how much grease you had to add in order for it too ooze out of the joint. Good thing you got this, otherwise it would be an expensive repair. Only two grease fittings on a C6 Corvette too. Rear link.

    The simplest way to loosen stuck wheels is to relieve the lug nuts about 1/8th inch, turn the front wheel to induce stress, and drive slowly. Works instantly and no damage.

    Just found frt u joints grease fittings on my 2008 f350, seeing that nothing else (ball joints etc ) had grease nipples, took it for granted that there were no fittings anywhere, just ordered a syringe with fitting for a grease gun to inject grease into rubber on u joints and what ever else it can do, thinking the auto companies want your parts to wear out so they can sell you them, sad , trucks of the old days were lube friendly.

    • @steveroutley9127
      @steveroutley9127 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Forgot to mention that after injecting grease into rubber on ball joints etc, use permatex silicone to cover the hole

      NLGI 2 has a good drop point and will be good. Grease works it's way out , even sitting, and even with expensive moly additive or what, u still should be greasing 5-6 pumps every 6 months, couple pumps every 3 months if you really care, and every 5k miles if you drive lots. Our trucks sit, a lot, and we watch the grease slowly drop in level. The expensive grease's only benefit is if you go beyond the needed interval, based on your use, is there is some anti friction modifier that theoretically will help provide some protection, but not grease, and if you really care, make sure there's grease. It's not worth it to buy $6 tubes. Get a good case of Tutela lithium cheap grease NLGI 2 for $2/tube, no need to waste money. Keep a second gun with high temp drop point around for bearings if you have on trailers and what.

    Tip #1: Specify 10k, 15k, 30k, 45k, etc. Service writers create tickets for vehicles and leave the line item as a 10k, instead of the proper 30k or 40k service.

    I worked at ford and they did not Teach us to grease these. Also they didn’t provide grease guns. I had to have parts order grease and I purchased grease gun. so I can do it for my customers. I would say its hit or miss with getting greased during works package i would request every time you go.

    • @scottfordjr3822

    What grease did you use? Our old Duramax I used the typical GM Valvoline red stuff but I hate it. In the summers the red stuff runs and thins. My older Ford's I used MolyEP Valvoline. Seems better all the way around and doesn't thin out and run.

    • @CarlosRodriguez-hb3vq

      I’ve got them on my 2011. Also, it doesn’t matter if they are facing out when you go to grease them. If you’re in 2wd and the hubs are unlocked (i.e. auto) the u joint will spin by hand.

    I would think your Owners Manual would specify ALL greaseable joints. Did you look carefully at driveshaft joints? I would be very upset with your dealer, your joints may fail because of their neglect.
