  • An update on the restoration/repair of my Horizontal Boring Mill. Progress has been slow as I have been busy in my shop. However, I did manage to get a few things done.

Being busy in the shop is a good thing, and good to see some progress on the HBM

    Hello,
Thanks for the update... It is funny how some ways are hardened and others not.
    Take care.

Thanks for the update on the HBM. Looks like you have a winter project on your hands.

I like the coolant labyrinth. Makes you wonder how the coolant can be so smart to find its way back to the tank :)

Kind of like a Thermos. How does it know to keep coffee hot and iced tea cold.

I have just purchased a b75t Wotan, the manual I got with it is an operating manual and all in Spanish, did you get a manual with yours that's
    English?

Sort of. I got a manual that was cobbled together from several different manuals. Some of it applies, some of it doesn't, some of it is missing and some of it is in German. You could try google translate. I have had excellent results using it to translate German words and phrases.

Is it possible for me to give you my email?

One issue I'm having, is on top of the headstock. There is a plastic dome to show the oil jet as it says in Spanish. I have no oil flow through there when it's running, I even when I hit the hand pump on the bottom to pump oil manually it doesn't shoot oil up. I'm wondering how hard it is to pull that whole front panel off with all the levers?

@@mikeromanetto2624 Hello Mike. It is possible to take the front off but it is a lot of work. First I would check the sight glass on the front of the headstock to make sure you have enough oil in the headstock. Assuming you do then I would take the top off the headstock and underneath the top you will find an oil distributor plate. Remove this as well and you should see the oil pump near the back mounted on the end of one of the shafts. You should be able to remove the pump, the discharge line (the one that is supposed to spray on the dome) and the suction line. Either the pump itself is not working or the suction line is plugged. The hand pump on the bottom does not spray oil on the dome. It draws oil from the headstock sump and forces it to the ways, leadscrew nut etc. When you have the distributor plate off you should clean it and make sure all the drain holes are open. Every one on mine was plugged. Ken

Thank you! That sounds like an avenue. I am going to check out tomorrow. I just don't want to be running this too much without oil flowing good. There is plenty of oil in it. It is up at in the site glass. And it's pretty clean looking. I did see on your video where you said about running kerosene through it. I am going to try taking that top plate off first though. Thanks Ken. I hope you don't mind me bugging you.
