    You should always mod the exhaust. 911, R8, doesn't matter. Sportexhaust is a MUST HAVE!

    Really easy actually, if you prefer 8 cylinders over 6 ;-)
    BTW, nice to see 2 different philosophies so evenly matched. That 2 little over steers at the end might have cost the Audi the draw.
    My choice, for the weekends the Audi, for everyday the Porsche ;)

    From wikipedia:
    On 5 July 2012, Volkswagen AG announced a deal with Porsche resulting in VW's full ownership of Porsche on 1 August 2012. The deal was classified as a restructuring rather than a takeover due to the transfer of a single share as part of the deal. Volkswagen AG paid Porsche shareholders $5.61 billion for the remaining 50.1% it did not own.

    V8 and V10 got same exhaust pipes now. The double-twice ends from the V8 are gone just as the big oval tips from the V10. Much more difficult to distinguish now.

    There is one thing that the R8 does better than the G and that's ride comfort, especially with magnetic ride. Many owners of this type of car want to have the option to daily drive it and it is something to consider for some customers.
    You could say it's another issue of cost (in that they can't afford a second car after buying their near-exotic R8, whereas a G owner would buy a luxury car for daily use), but some people do want to drive around in their sports car everyday.

  • @Chimpware
    @Chimpware 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I was referring to my view on the aesthetics, but to be honest I also view the exclusivity somewhat valuable to me as well, which may be somewhat shallow. In my area there are hundreds of look alike 911s, but very few R8s and for me that is valuable as well.

    I am 26 as well and I am lucky enough to have been able to afford one of these cars. I test drove a bunch of cars and my final verdict was to get the 2009 997 Turbo Cabriolet. The electric steering of the new car just cannot compare to the old hydraulic set up.

  • @TheCruizer
    @TheCruizer 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I do and perhaps, you are right in terms of looks and show. But as I owned several Porsches before the R8, a 911 is a much easier car to live with and sometimes it's better not to get all of the attention. Never before, I've had so many damages on purpose on my car.
    The 911 ist the better allrounder, even on that matter! :)

    Damn good question! Honestly, I went for the fun side at 26 (with different motorcycles), but I had to work 5 years more for my 1st Porsche at 31. I don't like the Turbo, it's always ugly and somehow too much, but I don't like the V10 either, bc it doesn't sound as good as the V8.

  • @TheCruizer

    Hm, you guys should either get a perfect lap together that you then compare or say that the cars are dead even. But saying twice in that hot lap that time was lost due to a driver error can't be the then taken for the statement, that the cars are seperated by 0,2 secs. They aren't, obviously, since during the Porsche lap there didn't seem to be any too late braking or too early on the power (oversteer in last corner).

    You are correct I was always in lovewith the v8 some of the 1st reviews of the v10 said its kinda looses its character since its heavier and yeah the v8 sounds better too, even though v10 sounds like a gallardo. now that the new gt3 is out, I think I wont be buying an r8 lol, since the gt3 no does 0-60 in under 3.5 seconds.

But Still when you talk about presence when you put an R8 beside the porsche people will only look at the porsche after they are done looking at the R8, I saw a Porsche as soon as they came out was amazed then I saw a 2007 R8 and I was still wowed. Problem with R8 fans, is that with the Audi R8, you always get the sense that the owners wanted a Lamborghini Gallardo or a Ferrari 458 Italia, but couldn't afford one (or in the case of fans, the argument of, "It's cheaper"), so they chose to buy a car that looks like them and drives similar to them.

  • @ellasOLE22
    @ellasOLE22 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    it actually looked like he was working harder in the Audi with it kicking out on a couple of turns. The Porsche never got sideways. Engine over rear wheels gives good traction.

  • @TheMegaCONARTIST
    @TheMegaCONARTIST 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    R8 single clutch had jerky changes and that's it. Advanced gear changes are at present in all manufacturers so nothing new. Porsche in fact has is fallowing Audi, helped Porsche to implement the very strong DNA that has made it to perfection, it has been and is in calibration with Audi throughout many of its projects where Audi has helped to develop some racing strong success in past of Porsche and making RS2 together for example, Audi is more advanced but they focus on different targets.

  • @theyamanote
    @theyamanote 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's a huge compliment to Audi you're giving there then, comparing it to a Lambo! At its price point IMO the (downtuned, FYI) V10 is supposed to compete with the 997TT, and still slots in under the G in the VAG family.
    Perhaps we've grown too accustomed to the look of the 911 over the years but anything short of a GT3 doesn't turn heads. I'm not saying it's ugly, but it's not a very exciting design, and if you asked someone which one is more expensive they'd point out the R8 every time.

    Yes! :) I was sick and tired to finance the local Audi dealer every single week with 40 Euros a litre, for the barrel it was 9 Euros.
    I did mod my 1st 911, but only the suspension. Never ever! I don't see any sense or reason any more to make a sports car more sporty. ;)

  • @megglehippi
    @megglehippi 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    how cold you prefer a R8 over a 911?

  • @theyamanote
    @theyamanote 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    If it's one of the (3 of every 10) 911s that are still sold with the MT, sure. But 7 of those 10 have PDK. So why didn't that 70% of owners buy a GT3 if they wanted natural aspiration and an awesome exhaust note?
    You're right- most R8 owners buy it because it's cheaper to own and maintain than the Gallardo. But if it looks exotic and drives similarly as you say, is it really a bad thing though?

  • @misterpacha1

    Yes it's the V8 and high revs are indeed the explanation that came from Audi as I wrote them. After 2 months, it was annoying like hell, so I bought a whole oil barrel of 200 litres. ;)

  • @rousseau327

    I will concede that the R8 is a better daily driver than its Italian rivals. I believe your comment was, people buy the 4S because they can't afford a Turbo, to which I replied with my given reasons. The reason were not to answer, "why don't they buy a GT3 if they want a N/A engine and nice exhaust note?" On paper, with performance and maintenance and all relative to price, the R8 is great, but my problem with it is that its trying to play with the wrong crowd, but its fans are oblivious to it.

    it doesen't matter the number of cylinders a car's got, it's the liters it's got, 3.8 from porsche, 4.2 from audi.
    that's why mercedes get a lot of power from v8's, they're 6 liter v8s
