    This review is even more interesting today, when the choice becomes between a $35K Jag and $75K Porsche. Love the Porsche but not more than two Jags. :)

    Ok now do the test again with an AWD F-Type S. :) The 1 sec track time difference should vanish. Add the ceramic brake package on the F-type as well...

    F - type over this for sure, yea it doesn't have the best interior but its interior is still a 100K interior and that sound and design is far more eye catching / exotic. Same thing with the new Z06.... The 911 is great but compared to a front engine, RWD, and a SC V8.... the Z06 and F-type just have it. more soul, more sexyness, more noise.

    Currently have an '09 C4S cab with tip and for grins & giggles just test drove a 2017 F-Type S and R - OMG, pure muscle, even the V6S. Been a Porsche guy all my life, but the new Jag just blew me away. The low end torque is incredible and it just drips sex appeal. Sure the 911 may be better on the track, but my next car may very well be an F-Type.

    Why would you compare the 4wd porsche instead of the much more comparable rwd?

  • @67ES335
    @67ES335 11 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I'll take the Jag. It looks so good and looks like a lot of fun. It might beat the Carrera S. The Carrera 4S is all wheel drive compared to Jag's two. All wheel drive will always be more stable in corners.

    wins what? Going around a racetrack one whole second faster? wow! Well, I chopped in a 911 Turbo S for the new F-Type 5.0 and tell you what, as great a car as the Porsche is I'd have the Jag any day. The 911 feels ordinary by comparison and having driven both to the south of France and back can say the Jag experience is miles better. How many people spend most of their time on a racetrack!? Jag wins, hands down.

    Great review, great video. It was obvious to me how much more the reviewer was smiling in the Jag, which indicates WAY more fun to drive, as good as the Porsche might be. I just don't trust the Jag will hold together over time like the Porsche will. Just depends on what you like.

  • @themuhami
    @themuhami 10 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    F Type looks prettier, has more torque, costs less (even with the full kit), more luxurious, more comfortable, more fun and is only 1.2 seconds slower than the "precision track car" porsche on a track... tell you what, i think i could live with only being 1.2 sec slower, and make myself feel better by spending the $16,634 price difference on a huge holiday :-p

    • @x0lamborghini0x
      @x0lamborghini0x 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ...but then realise your broke when you come to sell it, because its depreciated three times faster than the Porsche.

    • @themuhami
      @themuhami 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      ... oh yes i forgot about that particular point. thanks for reminding me...you know i notice there are a fair few different variants of the 911's are on the market aren't there?...oh and ahh Porsche seems to release a new 911 series quite often don't they .... say ah the F type how many different variants are there on the market? you could count them on one hand i think...oh and it's the successor to the E type right...tell me when was the last E type made...quite a while ago, i think 1974-75. And you know it just seems like Porsche makes a new 911 every time the sun rises... so if we have a good hard look at the elements that contribute to depreciation of a car's value ... I think you can see where i'm going with this...
      PS. of course as the jaguar is cheaper than the porsche off the show room floor it will ultimately be cheaper than the porsche when you sell it after you've owned it. but i'm sure you've worked that out too. you know common sense.

    • @x0lamborghini0x
      @x0lamborghini0x 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aguy F Not to state the obvious here, but I think there exists a strong correlation between any new model line and exclusivity...so your argument is somewhat invalid. I also believe, just because there are a number of Porsche models, it does not detract from there superiority as a vehicle (Each is very different). Taking nothing away from the E-type, I just get this horrible feeling it will end up another XK...Cheap and therefore common...so in actual fact, you will find in the long run Porsche's once again prevail in the categories discussed. When depreciation is concerned, unfortunately Jaguar falls very short of Porsche's reputation and always will...depreciation will be huge factor on the F-type. Sorry.
      P.S depreciation is non relative to the purchase price, it's a rate.

    • @setoain20

      Aguy F
      Tyler Durden
      you should not buy a car acording to the value the car will have when you sell it, you should buy it with your heart, the one that puts the bigger smile in your face is the one that should go home with you.
      If you like acurate driving and "discretion" probably you are looking after a Porsche.
      If you are looking for a car to put a smile in your face, and in the face of the rest of the people in the streets, a car that not only is gorgeous but it also sounds like a goddess! then you are totally after the jaguar.
      I'm a true Porsche Fanboy but Jaguar has earned my heart with this one, I just wish they offered a manual gearbox as an option, plus if i had a Porsche it would be RWD, more challenging = more fun!
      That being said if this jaguar is properly build, it would not loose its value as previous jaguars. This is the ULTIMATE JAGUAR so expect it to have a great value over time

    Jag big time!! Something new

  • @jeffpuha8187
    @jeffpuha8187 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    What bothered me most about the Jag was the relative sloppiness of the chassis during the timed lap. It seems to be more softly-sprung than the 911 and the body was leaning right and left quite a lot in the transitions through the corners. I would say that the Jag really isn't a track car. I'd be interested to see what these folks say about the "real world" performance of it. It may have a more comfortable ride than the 911 as well.

    • @joaosoares3719
      @joaosoares3719 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      ewt415 You seem to be missing my point, dear sir. If all that Porsche could offer was the Cayenne Diesel I'm confident they'd postpone the test. That's also what they should've done in this case.

    • @rousseau327
      @rousseau327 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      João Soares Your example is terrible. Tell me why they would cancel it if all Porsche had was a Cayenne Diesel. Isn't it because it's an SUV, it rides inches upon inches higher than the F-Type, it weighs significantly more than the F-Type, it has less than half the power, it's performance figures are entirely off from the F-Type, it seats five comfortably, it has a huge trunk, lots of storage space and MORE. In other words, it's a different class of vehicle. In the case of the C4S? The ONLY difference is the 2+2 seating (which all 911s other than GTxs have), and the AWD. You really think they'll turn down the offer because of such a difference? Especially seeing as the Jag has significantly better performance figures, it'd be logical to think that a C4S wouldn't be too far off. Of course, they knew this is still not a completely fair comparison, so they took the liberty to tell you that a C2S is available.
      And honestly, did you expect the Jag to fare any better against a C2S?

    @stevengensert8814 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    a 991 without 4wd would probably have been a tiny bit faster than the 4s. rear engined cars have great traction and - in most cases - don't even need 4wd, especially on a smooth, dry and relatively warm track.

    these cars are more suited for cruising the beautiful winding roads between St. Tropez and Cannes than setting lap times on a circuit, but a good test nevertheless! if money was no object, I would take the Porsche hands down, however, from what i saw there's almost 20k between them. that's a lot of money even for people who have lots of money!

  • @vika0194
    @vika0194 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    that is not important when a car weighs to much. More weight means more HP and torque. If the porsche weighed as much as the f-type it would easily need more than 600 HP

    The 4 wheel drive makes a car slower on dry road conditions. So yes it is a bit biased but it's in the Jaguars favor. It would been a bigger win for the Porsche if it were 2 wheel dry.

      Sounds better, more fuel efficient, safer, mechanically more reliable (JDPowers) I can keep going...at the end of the day, you'd only buy the Jaguar to impress other people, frankly I'd rather impress myself knowing I've bought the superior machine. If you've never driven a Porsche the word "refinement" will mean nothing to you.

    • @timozomerman

      The sound of the jag is much better and the interior too, how often will you take your car to a race track?

    • @sidescrollin
      @sidescrollin 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Durden from my experience on this earth Porsches are usually bought to impress other people or by people who aren't very creative and immediately jump to a corvette or 911 when they want a sports car.
      I'd buy the jag because its better looking and because it is a jag, it has character. I've driven 911s and boxters and they aren't "refined" if by refined you mean the pure definition of them being improved each year...okay. But grace,space, and pace beat out a porsche any day in my book.

      +john marsh GT3 and Turbo the best looking 911:s? Maybe if you're 14 years old and like big wings and air intakes. If you're grown up then a 50th anniversary 911 looks much much more sophisticated and refined. The jag is nice, but time will tell if it's a classic like the 911.

    Porsche 911 C4S Cabrio is about 120,000 starting in comparison to 79,000 in which you can get a F-Type. Jaguar made the F-Type so people can buy a relatively cheap, but powerful sports car. In relation to performance to dollar, the F-Type is superior.

    what americans are you talking about? american english is usually much more respectful towards the original pronunciations of foreign words than british english, which usually pronounces them as they would be if they were originally english words.

    Or you can skip the Porsche, save some money and get a ZR1 or a GT-R. Both are comparable in setup to these 2 cars. And they are arguably faster. Who is making Jaguar's engines now by the way? For that matter who owns them? Tata Motors? Or is that Aston?

    Cayman all the way... they are not even in the same price bracket actually. You are probably looking at M3 at Cayman price.
