    Solid though process, the air suspension is a crutch for the rear 5 link suspension. The rear coils are nice for offroad and daily driving. The soft ride rear coils are really nice and make a big difference. But you have to do weird things to fit the rear 3.0s like the dominator kit. the 3500 is the way to go if I where to buy a 5th gen.

    Timing could not be better on this video. Good job. I'm going back-and-forth my self on 2500 vs. 3500. I have some people telling me to get 3500 SRW and throw the Carli progressive leafs on the back. Others telling me I'm crazy for considering a 3500. I live in the NorthEast, no high speed desert running for me. I will most likely put the Pintop setup on there though. Trying to be realistic, yet, not compromise on what I may do in the future either with towing/hauling. I want to see more about this "wag" on the 2500s.

      For some reason there’s this strange stigma that you can only have a 3500 if you tow extremely heavy, but with the Carli full rear pack a 3500 rides like a dream and is a great zero sacrifice setup! • @Gilbertll
    @Gilbertll ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice play on words to push your CJC suspension and decieve potential Ram Truck buyers. FOR THE RECORD.... a Ram 2500 with the self-leveling air suspension has a distinctly softer and more comfortable ride than the standard coil spring setup. Hands down, no doubt. You should consider the fact that not everyone is dying to put your aftermarket suspension on their Ram 2500. So the BEST option for the guy/gal who does not want to buy your aftermarket suspension is the self-leveling air suspension option.

    • @CJCOffRoad

      There's no deception here, just truth. We cater to an off road focused market. The air system is great for on road driving, but we've seen too many failures off road or in cold areas to recommend those trucks for customers seeking that kind of usage. We offer systems specific to the air Rams if people want them, but only recommend those trucks to customers focused on road driving in warmer locations.

    Excellent Video as I was getting ready to buy a 2500 Ram and now maybe I need a 3500. My plan is to put a Lance camper (2500lbs) in the back of one. You quoted a max payload of 1800lbs but The specs for the 2022 2500 is 3200lbs (quadcab short wheelbase) is it not? In the end is it just better to buy the 3500 with the leaf springs or modify the 2500 (since 2500’s are easy to come my in my area). Again thanks for the video as I had not considered this potential issue.

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For your needs, we highly suggest getting a 3500. Most diesel 2500s have a max payload around 1,800 pounds. The claimed 3,200 pounds you're mentioning is ONLY on the most stripped down, 2wd, gas engine single cab trucks sadly which isn't what people get. With a 3500, you also have a much more stable, better handling rear suspension design.

    Hello. I have a 19' 1500 with factory air. During winter I put 1/2 ton plow on front (probably little over approved axle weight) and quite large snowblower in the rear. I'm also thinking about getting salt spreader for the rear. Aside from that, I use the truck routinely throughout the year periodically hauling dump trailer or the like. Most of the time, I use it for paved transportation and REALLY enjoy the nice ride--compared to my old F150. I'm thinking of getting a truck that's a little more capable but really don't want to compromise ride comfort. Can I get away with both, and if so, what do you think would be the best setup? Thank you!

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We'd recommend moving up to a Ram 2500 with the air rear end. That should be perfectly suited to what you need to use it for as long as it's a small salt spreader under 500 pounds!

    Getting a FWC camper Grandby (about 1700lbs dry). With a family of 4, and gear, I’m thinking payload around 2500-3000 likely. Sounds like you recommend the 3500. Is there a particular leaf pack you would recommend for this rig that would not be an awful ride without the camper in the back?

    • @CJCOffRoad
      @CJCOffRoad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sadly air systems are never the smoothest option. It’s a bit long to explain in the comments, but the short version is that coils will always offer the best ride. The advantage of air is the ability to vary your spring rate, which gives you the functionality of carrying a range of weight in the truck without squat. You basically trade ride quality for that though. That’s why air suspension is used on Semi tractors and coil/leaf springs are used on off road vehicles.

      As far as ride is concerned, there’s no difference between a Hemi and Cummins truck with a Carli system. That same thing goes for the PW vs 2500 as well since you’re replacing all the suspension. While the Power Wagons have a lot of hype, the factory suspension is lack luster compared to the rest of the truck. They’re capable of a whole lot more with some real suspension under them!

    • @CJCOffRoad

      Our recommendation is to go with R1 coils and this airbag kit for standard usage, and then R2 coils and this airbag kit for trucks with in bed campers etc: www.cjcoffroad.com/collections/dodge-air-bags/products/full-travel-rear-air-bag-kit-2014-current-ram-2500
      There's no reason to have more spring rate than needed, so if the truck is empty most of the time, you'll want R1 coils and then the bags to supplement. The bags inside the coils pretty severely impact upward suspension travel, so we try to avoid them.

  • @iakona3358
    @iakona3358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Bags are 100x better for towing heavy loads. I've had all three systems and Ram's factory air suspension is far superior to any leaf or coil suspension when towing. Get coil if you're not towing anything heavier than 1000 lb tongue weight once in a while. Over 1000 lbs or frequent towing you should have leaf springs or air bags. If you're 5th wheel or truck camper you should definitely have air bags to level the ride. Ram factory air bags are designed to work with a different leaf pack than the leaf spring only suspension. Factory bags function much better than a 3500 leaf sprung truck with aftermarket Air Lift or Firestone bag system.

      We'd HIGHLY recommend a 3500 leaf sprung truck for your application. It will have more articulation and travel off road than a 2500, and offer your the paylaod you need to tow a trailer comfortably. With a 2500 of any trim you'll have the same issues as your Power Wagon.

    I want the softest ride what should I get. Towing is going to be very light. Mainly a daily so I want a soft ride not stiff.

      The air 2500s ride fantastic on the street so that's what we'd recommend. Pair that with a Carli system and you have a VERY smooth truck!

      I agree with MoparProud, given time a lot of folks will have issues with the glitter gun, I mean CP4 simply because they are junk and time is not on your side. If you are to buy a new truck with the glitter gun then I would recommend swapping it out for a CP3....though I dont think its that easy. I think you have to rebuild the CP4 with CP3 internals, but I'm not sure.

      Of course it will. As long as you keep the factory specs in mind. A lot of people buy a Wagon assuming it’s a regular 2500 and end up with a truck that squats and doesn’t tow the way they expected. They fail to understand the suspension is tuned WAY different

      There’s no such thing as a 5th gen Ram HD, they are still 4th gen. And a CP4 is garbage regardless of the vehicle it’s on. Will the Cummins application prove to be better than the other two? Guess we will all find out together.

      We’re pulling payload numbers directly from the Ram website for a new 2020 Ram. The older trucks are a whole different ball game. 90% of our customers own a Laramie or higher crew/mega 4x4 Ram with a 6.5 foot bed so those are the numbers we quoted. Here’s a link to Ram’s website to compare: www.ramtrucks.com/towing-guide.html
