    I was looking for an easy DIY candy dispenser to add to my craft selling venture and found yours to be the perfect first time project. You were right, using a router to carve out the drop tray is the best way to go. I made a template from 1/4" HD material and I was able to make all six bases in less than 10 minutes. Took some pics but can't include them with these comments. Thanks so much for your video!

    I’ve seen several versions of this but I like this one the best very basic and simple to do for a quick project. I’m going to make one using a 1 gallon pickle jar so that should be fun. Thanks for sharing.

    Nice project! Btw, you commented on my candy dispenser over at my channel a few weeks back and I accidentally deleted your comment today when tried to edit my reply! Doh! But anyway, thanks for the comment, I appreciated it. And yep, I like to get my girls in the shop and help them learn hands on skills instead of watching some kind of computer screen all the time. There is so much value in what we do and we need to pass it on to the generations to come! Thanks again!

    When rout out the indented tray for the candy. Is it half way on the length of the base?

    • @fouroakscrafts7240
      @fouroakscrafts7240  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, you don't have to indent the tray as much as I show in the video. Actually, it's better if you stop it a little shorter, otherwise the candies might get stuck in the gap that's formed if you make the tray too long.

    Can you make a mason jar ground coffee dispenser for the proper measurement for one cup of coffee?

    • @fouroakscrafts7240
      @fouroakscrafts7240  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question! I suppose you could although I haven't made a dispenser that will do that. It might get kinda messy since ground coffee is a much finer consistency than jelly beans. I have made a coffee grinder with a small mason jar attached to the bottom. Got a tutorial for that on my website.

    Looks like it's hard to grab the candies from underneath the protruding slider. If I make this I think putting the receiving tray in the bottom piece further forward, and then adding a small ramp in front of the middle slide holder board to shoot the candy forward would aid the functionality of the piece.

    • @fouroakscrafts7240
      @fouroakscrafts7240  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! I think that would be a great design change. The biggest challenge I have with the dispenser is that sometimes the candy gets "stuck" or "wedged" together and won't fall into the hole. I'm not sure how to improve except for maybe making the hole a little bigger.

    Does it ever get jammed when pulling it out with candy?

    • @fouroakscrafts7240
      @fouroakscrafts7240  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, mine does. It may depend on the hardness of the candy and just how they drop down into the hole. I've notice that it's worst with jelly beans. And jelly beans will tend to stick together in the jar and not even drop down sometimes.

    Loved the video and I made one myself. I struggled with the tray but finally got it pretty good. Also not much metal on that lid to drill thru and my four screws are visible a little bit. Several people saw mine and want one too so I guess I'll make a few more. . I wish there was a better way to make the receiving tray with less time. I don't have much experience with a chisel.

    • @fouroakscrafts7240
      @fouroakscrafts7240  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comment! There may be a few other ways to make the tray. A router is one possibility. You could also just glue/nail some small pieces of wood around that area to create a tray. Anything to keep the candy from rolling away from you and onto the floor.

    Thank you, I am going to use mine cat treats. Leave it on the coffee table. I'm going to modify the plans because I am using pallet wood. .

    Don’t the candy get stuck at the bootom

    • @fouroakscrafts7240
      @fouroakscrafts7240  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it can. I think it depends on the type of candy you use and how much candy you go through over time. Jelly Beans will sometimes stick together and you may occasionally need to shake them loose.
