    This was fun to watch. I got a few recommendations here based on your comments. I wasn’t sure about Planetside but I see you liked it so that’s a good sign that I should give it a try.

    That was a very cozy decluttering vid! Glad you were able to make tough decisions to get that top shelf to where you could fit everything and still see them all, the final shelf looks great!

    This was awesome Niki! I love how detailed you were about sharing your thoughts on each one as you went along. I always consider this when I buy nice hardcovers as well.

    Nostalgia is a killer for this type of thing. I think you have to be more ruthless than you want to be.

      For sure! I’ve surprised myself at how many things I’ve been willing to let go over the past few years, but I’m still in the infancy stages with books. I still have a little room left, but once that’s gone I’ll have to make some tough choices.

    I suppose if I ever get to my Dawn Cook books I can finally say I've read Kim Harrison. Lol
    I tried that Elizabeth Hayden series many years ago and couldn't get into the first book and unhauled the series.
    I loved those Melanie Rawn books when I read them years ago. I did try to reread them a few years ago but couldn't get into the first one. I'm still keeping them for nostalgia. Plus I may try another reread them again later.
    I also like that Brent weeks series but haven't gotten the new one and probably won't. Like you, I don't see me ever rereading them but I'm going to keep them. I only have the first book of his Lightbringer series and I don't know if I'll ever read the series. Keeping the first 'just in case.' Lol

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haha it does that count?! It probably does but feels blasphemous to the Hollows series. XD
      I don’t recommend the Haydon series often because that first book was a huge mess. It takes over 100 pages for the story to start and has a lot of weird elements. From there develops into one of my favorite things I’ve ever read. Such a hard sell though.
      I want to love that I read the Rawn books but I just can’t muster the enthusiasm. It’s a good thing they’re pretty.
      I’ve committed to trying Lightbringer… we’ll see how it goes.

    I often struggle with letting books go, like you said, even with books that I read and didn't even enjoy all that much. And for the last several years, I haven't really had to, as I expanded my shelf space a couple of times. However, I am now at probably about 99% capacity again, and really nowhere else I want to expand, so I am going to have to start making some of those tough decisions myself. So thanks for the inspiration at least. 🙂
    I think your unhaul choices are mostly wise. The only ones I particularly disagree with are the Kameron Hurley books. Although I didn't realize that you didn't have a copy of the first book, so I guess that makes it a bit more justifiable.

      As it happens, I ended up saving those. I’ll wait to see if I can find the first book as a bargain, but for now they’re staying. Unfortunately they’re stacked in front of the shelf, wrecking the feng shui haha.
      People keep telling me to expand to other rooms instead of curating, but I’m determined not to do that until I’m down to just all favorites and out of options. Do you think letting some duds go would feel good freeing up space or does hoarding aspect appeal to you the most?

    • @johnnyp2002qq
      @johnnyp2002qq 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheObsessiveBookseller I do let the duds go, for the most part. Now I'm down to deciding whether I start letting 3 star books go. I don't really consider myself to be hoarding books, but maybe I'm in denial? I like having a large library of books at my fingertips. At the same time, I'm quite organized and largely a minimalist in a lot of areas of life, including in home decor. So some of these tendencies are kind of at war within me. I don't know, I guess I'll just figure it out as I go!

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@johnnyp2002qq I can see the duality there. And even though you have a ton of books they're all neatly displayed. I think if you can let duds go, then you don't qualify as a hoarder haha. I have a hard time getting rid of the three star ones too. I do have a few flagged for "when I run out of room" that I can let go. Beyond that, my hope is that eventually I'll expand my read section into my unread section, but unread doesn't seem to be shrinking like I thought it would haha.

    • @johnnyp2002qq
      @johnnyp2002qq 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TheObsessiveBookseller Well, if you're like me, you accumulate new books at least as fast as you read them, so the unread pile never seems to shrink at all. I'm lucky if it manages not to grow!

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller
      @TheObsessiveBookseller  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@johnnyp2002qq I haven't thought to hard about the rate, but your comment has me realizing I'm bringing in books about twice as fast as I'm reading them. XD My plan wont work if I accept reality.

    This was very satisfying. You made some big(for you) moves. Hehe. I definitely think it's important to keep some sentiment magic sprinkled in there. After all, it's an imaginative genre. To hang onto some imaginative memory seems fitting :)
    I totally agree on the Salvatores. I dnf the second one. I feel bad because he considers this world to be his greatest work. I just can't get into it. I've tried later books and didn't like them either. Out of respect, I may try the middle group, Transcendence, etc.

      Thank you! Yeah I’m baby-stepping intentionality with my books. I actually let go more than I thought I would. Many of the ones I’m keeping make me so happy, even though I also have hardcovers.
      Glad I’m not alone! The Child of a Mad God trilogy was so good it made me want to try the whole series again. I’m still not sure what I want to do there. It’s going to be a month of hard decisions when I reach that shelf in my RBH project.

      @@TheObsessiveBookseller He wrote the middle books, the ones after Demon Wars Trilogy, when his brother was dying. He said they are very special to him. Also, I will continue to urge you to skip a good deal of Drizzt Haha. I will never stop ;p K, wait. I just looked at the list. Yeah, you made it past a lot of the (in my opinion) crap. Still. You could totally skip the hour called The Companions Codex. Ha

    I have been working on getting rid of books... one of my current rules is if I can easily get it via the library or e-book then no worries about getting rid of it :) Melanie Rawn betrayed me... no third book for Ambrai :)

    • @TheObsessiveBookseller

      I used to work as a bookseller. Some of these books would cost the publishers more money to send back than it would to just "strip" and destroy , mailing in the covers for credit. We got to take home a handful every month!
