Happy Place is my least favorite of Emily Henry’s. 3 out of 5.

Self-indulgent is a good word for Starter Villain. Near the bottom of the list of Scalzi books that I've read, but I still thought it was fun. It felt like Scalzi trying too hard to stuff so much of his silly humor into the story that it became a bit of a detriment to the plot.

I got sidetracked on most of my reading and have been binging Annette Marie's Guild Codex series :)

Exact same critique of Drizzt. It's a shame. There's so many villains I just wait for paperbacks and skip to just the Drizzt parts. Around that era, he feels like a tour guide to water Wizards of the Coast is pushing. Can't remember liking Last Threshold. He lost me shortly after he was trying to make orcs possibly good. I hold Salvatore as fundamental to my life but I just fell out of love with Drizzt shortly after Sea of Swords. But you've already heard me rant about this so. I'm super stoked you're continuing and can't wait to hear your critiques. 😊

How many R .A, Salvatore books are there?

I needed 3 weeks of audiobook listening for Wind and Truth in December.

I had a similar experience with red shirts Which was also an audiobook by will Wheaton I think I'm just not into will Wheaton As a narrator I think I'm just gonna read Scalzi in physical format

I have similar feelings on Happy Place - I liked the supporting cast better than the MCs, and I really didn't care for the formatting in this one.

Happy New Year! Daniel Abraham and Ty Frank definitely have a strange marketing situation on their hands. It would not shock me if they walk back that statement. I’ve been reading 5 books (I need to simplify my reading life 😅😂) and they have all been delightful. Im trying to finish up Franz Werfel’s Star of the Unborn before finishing Ian Trigilis’s The Mechanical. Then I am going to finish up Assassin’s Quest before finishing Curse of the Mistwraith and Barbara Kingsolver’s Poisonwood Bible.

So far for the Secret Projects, I’ve only read Tress. My husband read them all and the Wizard one was his favorite. 😂 Everyone else I know says Yuni was their favorite.

Have you had the chance to try Charlaine Harris's Gunnie Rose Series ?

Some really interesting books on your Qtr 1 TBR, Speaking Bones is definitely one I want to get to sooner rather than later. I am so pleased that you're still focusing on reading for pleasure more than it becoming more like a job requirement. I think the whole 6 book Dune series is not for everyone, personally I love them and I've read them 4 or 5 times now since my teens but much as I love them don't worry if you don't love them too. Before I forget Happy New Year and your shelves are looking very snazzy and ordered behind you 👍😁

I'm one of the few who liked The Martian better than Project Hail Mary....it was fine, but the whole interaction with the "other" being was just an easy excuse for the main character to get out of every scenario....his own handy Deus ex Machina.

Books from the same author are always connected somehow. It's the same mind behind those books. ;-)

I read Sookie as it was coming out so enjoy :) Wind and Truth is on my TBR for this year but probably will be in 6 months depending on how soon I start my reread.

I remember a long time ago reading Chapterhouse: Dune, the 6th book and that was the end of the series at the time. I wonder if it is worth to read more books in this series. The review for book 7 aren't good.

Project Hail Mary is excellent--the audiobook is fantastic as well!

I loved the first 3 books of the Echoes Saga by Philip C. Quaintrell, and I am starting the 4th book. I started Otherland by Tad Williams years ago, but I never read past the first book, so I will need to read the first book again.

My last dune was God Emperor of Dune and I thought the series is getting better in general but I'm not loving it. It's interesting. Worth the read for the ideas, definitely

Couldn't agree more with what you have said. I am just over half way and the only reason I will continue is because my wife bought me the other 2 books. I dont actually know what I am reading and had to find a review on it lol. You were generous when you mentioned his last 5 books as I actually think it went back a little further, probably to Talon of the Silverhawk which i enjoyed. The prologue was an amazing set up and following this genre you knew there was going to be a survivor even before they mentioned it, but to then skip 17-18 years or so - ridiculous. The sex simply isnt needed in the book yet its the only topic where hes actually put some effort into it. I feel hes tried to create this amazing female character that nobody has ever seen before by sticking her and her 'sisters' in a brothel, cos thats what they all do "thats the female role" and I want you all to know that my newly created original character is a strong, unique woman that isnt going to be in that role. We didnt need this, she was developing fine as she was. The explanation we got from the person in charge was that she was put in that position so that she would know she would never want to be in that position. These are her teachers and were told that they go and do what they are told based on their skills so why would it even be an option, it would be like taking a 4ft tall guy and letting him play in the NBA just so he knows he doesnt want to when the plan for a 4ft person would be something completely different. We got several pages talking about roof tiles then a chapter or so on another bunch of pages of the character jumping across rooftops - WTF! If you stopped at 30% I am further on than you got and trust me it gets worse. This coincidence with the smith and his heritage, my god its just cringe. Anyway nice review, will sub and see if you have covered other books I have read :)

As we’ve talked about for about five years….your unfinished series list gives me anxiety 😂 - so I love videos where you make that list smaller. Why don’t you make a list of how many books you have to read in each series, sort that list in descending order and then knock of the series where you have the least amount to get caught up (kind of like the snowball method that’s talked about in finance circles)

Watching your video I can see that some series wake up your interest more than others, start with those.

I have been absolutely strict about not continuing series I'm not too interested in. I have buddy reads in my Goodreads group set up in April, July and November to finish the Shadows of the Apt series. Appart from that I will probably start/finish just few series more, but only series that start at 4-5 stars from book one.

I’ve never watched your videos, nor do I know why you popped up on my feed, but hot damn. The second I saw you holding those books I just HAD to click it. I haven’t read this series since I was like 14, and now I’m downloading them on my Kindle and convinced my brother(13, we are 18 years apart lol) to read it. I’m actually pretty fucking hyped up right now. Thank you for the dose of nostalgia I never asked for (but needed), you have amazing taste.

I am also going to be working on continuing reading series I have already started. As an eclectic mood reader I bounce from one to the other; fantasy, hist fic, sci-fi. Ugh, so many books, so little time. Haha!

Dang it, I need to read Otherworld, Kelly Armstrong. I read almost all of the Iron Druid series. I agree. I gave up with 2 books to go. I didn't mind Dresden. Read all of those. Ok, Ill be quiet. I hope you read the Mercy Thompson book 😃

Ooh, Patricia Briggs has a new one out? I need that! I didn't like Mistborn, I tried 3 times and gave up on the first book. Im participating in a read along from Janny Wurtz. Book tube channel is The Talking Story. One book every other month. I've never tried the wayward series. Kim Harrison is still writing books. It's been over a decade (or two). I remember a Pixy, Jenx?? I've read Charlaine Harris" other series, really good. One is Midnight Crossroad, a trilogy. Loved it, and the Gunnie Rose series too. Im on book 2, also love. I'm trying to read more Urban Fantasy, even older series. I didn't love, love my reads last year, so 80% Urban! You have great series to catch up on. Go girl 💪

I can help you out here, Andy Weirs books are not a series. Not "not technically a series", really really not a series! Also, Artemis is very meh! You could bump those guys off your challenge. Dude! There are loads of not-a-series books here, you are not helping yourself. 😂

Happily I do not do this. I am only waiting for a given author to publish the next book.

Hi! I am a new subscriber who has spent the past week absolutely binging your Read/Burn/Hoard videos. I do have a question for you. If you have so many books that you genuinely want to read, why keep books that you know you will only read if you are forced to? That doesn't sound like a fun/enjoyable thing.

For Pern which one do you consider 'next' Nerilka's Story which is a companion to Moreta or Dragonsdawn (probably my personal favorite).

I liked Bloody Rose better than King's of the Wyld. It was a better traditional fantasy book.

I'll definitely have to check out Chorus of Dragons.
