I Let Go of Over 300 Books! Declutter your book collection, see how I did it!! Slow Fashion Friday
#declutter
Welcome back to another Slow Fashion Friday video!! I am diving head first into the mountain of books that packed my bookcases to the max! I'll be sharing some personal stories about some of the treasures I find and why I decide to keep things...or let them go! Let's declutter together!!
Since you’ve had water in the basement before, you should move your photo albums to a higher shelf.
Good idea! Thank you!
Ya agree .
I also donated my dad's baseball book collection to a local highschool. the librarian said they always need books that boys would enjoy. they even put a label in each book, and there were 4 boxes, stating that they were from the personal library of John Damiano, my dad who had recently passed. it made my heart happy
I’m sure you will donate to those in need, like teachers, schools, but don’t forget the elderly residential or senior citizens centers!! Great job Lori & Jay!!
That's a nice idea! Thanks Connie!
Loved Lumpy’s participation and Jay’s laughs! You are amazing Lori 🌺
Jay is hilarious! It's such a good series, Lori. I look forward to each Friday.
I’m really enjoying these slow fashion fridays😊
Omg I love Jay!!
I couldn't have done this without him! He was cracking me up!
Good job. Books are special. I still buy them because I love holding a book while reading. Looks great.
I adore you and your husband! Jay is hilarious! Fun watching you de-clutter and love that Jay jumps in and helps!
Love your supervisor 🐕🐾🐾 Nice to see Jay in the video! Love the memories attached to some of your kids books, and the family photo of the first family outing. You're doing amazing, Lori!
Lumpy's mellow reaction around the books, shows how magical books are. You got a few shots of him here that are worth framing, then adding to the bookshelves.
How nice to see Jay in the video, and hear his thoughts on the process.
You both did amazing thinning out the books.
Oh Lori this was so fun to watch.
If this reselling thing doesn’t work out for you, you and Jay can always do a series on cleaning people’s houses. Of course Lumpy would have to supervise.
Between the three of you, I was cracking up. 😂
Amazing! You are inspiring me! A retired teacher who resold part time until I had to do a medical retirement in 2020 after 30 years of teaching. My reselling took over our home! Your videos are inspiring me to gain control again! Thank you!
Books are so easy to list and ship. Your books are in such good condition!
It might be nice to donate children's books to an inner city school that may lack funding for library books. I did that, and the school was thrilled
As a mom to a 5 year old…I need that ask me why series! We are at the endless questions conversation phase and I rarely have the actual answer 😂😂😂
He is cute! Lori, I see why you married him. You both are precious💖!
Jay’s books look like my books. This was fun to watch and inspired me to clean out my books!
I saved so many books for my future grandkids! Finally was able to send a big box of books to them and free up a ton of space!
My two boys went to Catholic school from preschool to college. We had probably 3000 books. I let the boys pick whatever they wanted to keep and then I donated the rest to the Catholic middle school library. Sad but it was really rewarding knowing they were going to a really good cause.
Absolutely loving these videos. As a fellow reseller, former teacher, and mom I can relate to you on so many levels! I have a love of children’s books and have thousands, I am inspired to weed out a few more of mine after this video! Keep up all the hard work. You are doing great!
I sell all my kids books to once upon a child, they almost always buy them all - and that’s where we buy the next levels and such. They sell books for $1-$5 and typically pay out 30% so it’s not a lot but if you have one locally it’s worth a stop before donation!
WOW! You must feel great on getting that project done Lori! I feel great for you! Thanks for sharing as it is much appreciated.
Nice to hear you lived in SF. I did as well age 21 in 1969 till I relocated to Roseville. I also lived in San Mateo and Belmont! What great life experiences at that young age and the Diversity I was exposed to. ☮️❣️lots of California history in that time are my memories. I relocated to Fort Worth for work in 1995.
I left my heart❤in San Francisco.
Books are boring, but I’m here for it. Lol I have loved your decluttering episodes.
Thanks for being here Jamie! Decluttering is exciting!
Jay is the absolute best. You guys are so cute together Lori
Glad you are keeping the Dr. Seuss. Parents are having a hard tome finding them. I love old books. You did a great job.
We love them!
Give each of your kids a copy of Where the Wild Things Are so they have books to pass on to their own kids
Good idea! They all loved it!
I have all the Robert Sabuda pop up books! And that Seinfeld Halloween book is hilarious! Mine has the CD and Seinfeld narrates it! The best!
That Seinfeld book is hilarious!
Lumpy is having a great time!
You can have that picture of your family revolored very easily.
Fantastic! I love the black and white bookcases. You did a fantastic job. And the finished product is perfect!!!
Thank you!!! I can't believe how many books were in there!
The shelves look great. I love the kids' artwork. P.S. I love Lumpy so much!
Thank you!! Lumpy sends his puppy love back at you!! xo
You are doing amaziiiiiing💪👏👏👏tip, check out the pokémon book. Pokémon is huge in USA right now. I watch a lot of resellers from usa and australia. I live in sweden and resell only books, but think it'is fun to watch other sellers😊 I think it'so fun and inspiring to warch you purge your house. Thank you for letting us in your private life!
Lots of love from Sweden, Rosa❤
Alright, you guys need to have story time where you read to us an hour each week from children books.
My daughter loved the Angelina books when she was young.
I love this because I just did this same thing! You inspired me to declutter and one of the rooms I started with was our “quiet room”❤️ Four built in bookshelves filled with books, photo albums, Bibles, diplomas, who-knows-what-else 😳 I put all of my husband’s things into boxes and he is struggling with separating himself from them. Your husband did a great job!! I am going to have my husband watch this!! Thank you!!
Heck check cost on Star Wars books before donation you will be surprised at worth! Love your shows!!
I will! Thanks Judith. xo
Great job, Lori!! Your bookcase looks lovely.
This had me laughing. You two are adorable. Book decluttering is one of the hardest areas because people can be suddenly so passionate about some book they haven't read in 30 years and just absolutely need to keep hahaha. Love this Friday series alot!
I lost my husband 19 months ago. He had about a thousand books. My daughter got rid of all of them! He had a basement full. I have a lot of books, but I try to purge as I go! Once it’s read, it goes to the library book sale!! Good luck, Lori!! ❤ hugs from Michigan!
There's just something about books for many of us. Sounds like your husband had his own library. Sounds like a nice relaxing space.
I've noticed that books even have a calming effect on animals. I was still surprised to see Lumpy so mellow around all the books.
That looks great, your killing it lol. Love this series
I absolutely love it!! I have so many books I don’t even know where to start. So proud of you.
Thank you Sandy! One book at time! You can do it!
oh man! I've been stopping the video every so often and shopping on amazon for some of your books! the shadow books are over $50 each and SO cool!
The bookshelves look amazing!! Such a great job👏👏
Thank you!! 😊
Love that Lumpy is ‘helping’ he did made me laugh when he used the books to get on the sofa 🤣
Eeek! Again, I just have to say that I sold Mary Kay, Pampered Chef...bought lots of Creative Memories and Usborne books! Two peas in a pod! Oh, and so glad you pulled Snowmen at night for Kim! That is such a cute book!!
My virtual twin!!!
Most of the books you saved, I love as well. I have a hard time parting with books. I get rid of fiction except for series I really love. Will I read them again? No. But they make me feel good!
Some editions of Harry Potter are worth big bucks so if those are in the donate pile make sure to double check those.
Every time I see a new video of yours, I immediately click to watch. Love your content Lori ❤
Omg I love Jay’s accent!
Jay really is cute on camera!! It was fun to see you both
I can recite The House That Jack Built. Love that story!
Shadows of The Wind 🥰
You must keep all the books that they have banned in the schools
Haha. I doubt she has any of those😊
I’ve been waiting all week for this! ❤
Thank you Samantha! I hope you enjoy it! This week was a heavy lift!
My favorite, so far! I LOVE seeing all the books (former Barnes & Noble store manager, here!). Still loving seeing your process. The bookcases look fantastic, and what a great feeling!
-Donna
Looks lovely books and memories are hard 😊
Loving these videos. Feel like I'm snooping, great fun. I don't think I'm too bad with books. For me it's the kids stuff, schoolwork etc. I seem to do it in phases. Throwing out a little at a time. Can't seem to do it all at once.
Omgosh! Please hire me to inventory your books, see whats worth anything, find places in need to donate 😍 This is everything i have a heart for ... education, books, and thrifting, in that order. What a collection!
You're HIRED Monica! lol!
I was a Mary Kay Counsultants . I remember thoses before, after.
Regarding saving books for grandkids... you can get most (if not all) of those books again and dont forget the library too. Plus there's so many new amazing books coming out for kids.
You did sooo good!!!!
I read My Father's Dragon in some of my TH-cam videos. I love that book!
Looks great! Books are hard to part with (I say as an English major)! My strategy is that I have one book shelf and I try to only keep what I can fit on it. When I want to get something new, I have to part with something else!
Thank you so much for the inspiration! I’m downsizing and getting rid of a ton in prep to move in with my boyfriend. Watching you has helped me give myself permission both to let things go and to keep what I’m not ready to let go of. ❤
Thank you for this message Amanda. I think being too hard on yourself can really backfire. Slow and steady has been working for me! You can do it!
Looks wonderful!! have some of those usborne books - in the nest was a favorite and apparently for our dog at the time as well. But now the chewed up edge is a sweet reminder of that doggie.
Sometimes those "loved" books are the best ones!
Ugh, I have to go through my books…I have several hundred…it will be hard but you inspire me, Lori! Your bookshelves look great and I think a few bookends would look great besides being functional. Cheers, Katia
Wow! Great clean up!
Thank you Susie!
Amazing job! Give yourself a big pat on the back!
Thank you so much Mindy! I'm feeling a little lighter every week!
Lori! I would buy the Schulz books from you! Also, great job!!!
Hi Lori, With the books, always check to see if its a first edition. I admit I have a book addiction. I will see something and say wow I really want to read that book...so that now ...well I did clear out boxes of books already when I rehabbed a big part of my house...and now I have re-bought much again LOL - so do be careful of that. Its hard when you are shopping basically for a living. But yes always check for first edition of any book, and also children's pop up books can go for GOOD money. I sold a large pop up I found at our Savers Value Village at $2.49...I sold for $75 on ebay. I was quite surprised, but think about it they don't make as many pop up books as regular ones and used childrens books get torn or ruined often, so if you have one in excellent shape it can be worth more. Also "SETS" of books do well, esp. if they are complete. Ah I see you are Lotting them up. Great to see your progress! I am doing so little compared to you, but we must not compare LOL.
Lori that looks so great!! Well done 🎶🎉🤗
You did an amazing job!!!!
Thank you Sylvia! One week at a time!
Wow!!! Looks fantastic ❤
Thank you 😋
Lumpy is so adorable
If you’re a good mom you’d want your kids to have these books. That’s what the traveling salesman said to me 28 years ago. Around $300 that we couldn’t afford. I get it.
My favorite so far😊
Lumpy really was a star for this video 🐶 ⭐️
Books have a lot of emotional attachment to them. I just did a full clean out of my bookcases, as well, & had a difficult time getting rid of a lot of them, but I did. I know I still have the memories. You did amazing, Lori. You’re making so much progress! I’m proud of you! 😊🫶🤗
Thank you Linda! I'm proud of you too! I think that taking a moment to enjoy the memories has been helpful. Having a laugh or going through the pages was sometimes enough to then let it go. Congratulations on your clean out!
Love love love this video! Awesome work.
Thank you so much!
WOW! That was impressive work!! Didn’t see that you kept the Griffin & Sabine Trilogy. That one was sellable. Sad that so many books only resell for just a few dollars. But it’s great you’re able to share with friends, the schools and libraries. Great job. 👏👏👏 I need to do the same😬😬
Great job Lori! I got a fridge cleaned out this week. Doing another one on Monday.❤
25:48 Her hair is gorgeous. I wish my hair was that thick.
Thank you Vickie!
Oh, Lumpy is so adorable! ❤ I just love that little puppy!! I am getting anxiety about all those books!! 😂
You and Jay are the cutest
Save those books that you want to read with your grand children. Save all the ones that make your heart sing. You can also share them with your kids to share with their kids.
I love books so this was my favorite of all your Slow Fashion Friday videos. You did such a great job reducing your collection of books. The shelves look fantastic!
Thank you Kimberly!
So awesome! We have so many books. I need to channel my inner Lori and go thru mine.
Thank you for sharing your decluttering journey because now every Fri I declutter my own home and inventory during your video. I feel so much more at peace 😊
Great job!!!I love slow fashion Friday. We were a military family , so with all the moving I’ve always been great about getting rid of stuff as we had weight limits for the movers. Now that he is retired and we’ve been in the same house for seven years, I have to make myself act like I’m still moving every few years. My house is not cluttered, but my garage is my absolute shame. 😬
Lori this is my favorite video, I have three grown children and we moved from Fl to Al when my youngest graduated high school and I did the same with my kids books along with being a Preschool teacher you have the most amazing book collection . Another great video and I know it is sooooo hard because of the memories .
Great job Lori, Jay & Lumpy! Your bookshelves look amazing!
#teamtata
OMG!! 😮😢 First, I need to borrow the Dune series!! This is a BRAVE conquest. I’m a book nerd. Books are LIFE to me. I’m on Jay’s side…
Jack Kerouac too!! I keep coming back/forth (watching/writing my comment) because my heart is racing!!
OLIVIA was my alter ego!!
Where the Wild Things Are, I’ve always wanted to own a copy!!
OKAY, I’m done with the book drama. Congrats on your donate pile!!
I love your husbands accent!!
It's pretty thick!
I loved seeing all of your AG books. Definitely interested in purchasing a few of them!
I am glad you are saving some of the Usborn books for😊 your future grandchildren
I love that series!
Wow you did an awesome job clearing out all those books!!! The book shelf looks AMAZING ❤❤❤😊😊
