Lui manca al panorama operetistico come non mai!Grande voce, grandi doti interpretative ed una simpatia innata, oltre,naturalmente, alla bellezza fisica
Bravissimo, ma la pronuncia non è perfetta, molto lontana dalla perfezione. D'altronde è anche vero che la lingua italiana sia molto difficile, ma ci sono altri baritoni stranieri che hanno una pronuncia migliore quando cantano quest'opera

Io l'ho conosciuto un uomo veramente affabile e carismatico ma anche profondamente intellettuale conosceva le poesie di Leopardi a memoria e anche tutta la Divina commedia di Dante.

His breathing technique is absolutely astounding. If you watch with the sound off, you can even tell when he's taking a breath, because he doesn't let his shoulders rise dramatically, he keeps it all in his midsection, which is textbook breathing technique. Amazing.
He's always been my favourite baritone! I've seen him live and he never disappoints :)

Not a very responsive audience. He looked puzzled. He would be spectacular in this opera. He knows exactly how to do the comedy. Dmitri (with or without Juan Diego) would be the hit of the season in any opera house in the world.
Threre's another, much better version, but he already shows here he'd become unbeatable!

@ivanplazacic I think it doesn't matter. I guess the difference between La ran la le ra as written in the score and what singers sing today is like the difference between Miau and Meow- style. Who cares what people in the 19th century substituted if they didn't sing words? At least no one's going to mistake Lalalalala for lyrics.

IMO if he had been trained differently to have a more foreward tone .more squillo. .his voice would carry more in the houses...Nancy great Italian baritone didn't have humongous voices. .but due to training could be heard through the house they didn't need freakishly Huge voices like McNeil,Warren,guelfi etc .think of tagliabue, capucilli,malaspina, protti,bonelli.they weren't huge men with huge voices. ..but the carried.

@ForAll23 LOL Under what credentials are you to be critiquing someone like Hvorostovsky? If you actually knew the translation, then you'd understand that the way he acts this out is nearly flawless, as is his singing technique. Plus lets face it, Dmitri is WAY better than Serville. If you want to compare someone on this aria, try Hermann Prey. The only thing I would have liked to hear is an elongation of the famous Figaro passage. He seemed to rush through that a bit, but that's interpretation.
It must be pain in the ass for the singer, altering between l and r, plus a and e. Sorry, I've encountered both versions of lyrics, didn't pay attention. He sings "La, re, la, la, re, la" every time, I believe. Whizz!

It`s a pity, that he started to darken his voice by force and because of that became heavier. He has a great voice, great stage presence, he doesn`t need to do that... voice is supposed to darken with age and improving breath control. Great talent, but somehow wasted in a "dark" way...

He sang the Count's aria at this very concert, check it out on my channel. There are also I think two videos from the opera with Bryn Terfel. But I think he fears that he would be too heavy for Mozart now.
