7:28 My 1990 Legacy Wagon just split it's (I know now) original water pump elbow hose as of 2018. 28 years is one hell of a good run for a rubber coolant hose. I overheated but no damage was done. I can't kill this thing lol
i have a 2nd gen legacy (1996) it has a frankenstein ej22 since the motor that was in it didnt run right (cracked block if i recall) and i got a motor from my uncle out of a 93 legacy with a bad cranskhaft. My shop rebuilt it it but it was done on the cheap so i have a ton of miscellaneous issues ive been fixing over the past 5 years and 22,000 miles. Most recently the crank pulley was worn and im lucky it didnt break but it did solve my issues of the car randomly shooting up to around 1400rpm when i put it in park after driving next is the injector seals since my mechanic said they look a bit flat you just never know with a engine that was abused and the other sat in a shed for 10 years. Even still i love it its a quick car and the engine has been reliable aside from its quirks that keep popping up
Those head gaskets keep me awake at night. Shame the japanese manufacturers no longer make anything to the reliable standard they did back in the 90's when they had something to prove. Just imagining the plastic intake manifolds on the new Subaru's in 20 years. What a joke. Quality in general has gone down but cars are more expensive as an added insult.
Lol mines got 266,011 on her runs great checked the belt when I replaced the water pump. Belt looked amazing. Tensioner had a lot of lire left did all that about 20,000 miles ago. I love my subie runs great never let me down
Wow! You guys are in the Northwest?! In Washington State? Wonderful! This has been a great series, great fun. I have fabulous memories not an old Nissan SE-R, and would love to again possess a stealthy, sleeper pocket rocket. A Subaru may be in my future. Subbed here in Seattle. Done. Mahalos!
I picked up a 96 Legacy wagon with this engine that I am daily driving. It has no maintinence record, got it for a $200 value trade in parts. needed to fix a brake leak but it drives nice, 250,700 miles at the moment. It leaves cool rainbow puddles on wet days like today. Now I am a bit worried I may have to just go ahead and pull the engine and re gasket it.
252,533 as of now. Fuel pump went out 2 weeks ago, easiest fuel pump I have ever replaced though. If it still runs and drives as good as it has I will pull and re-gasket it this fall. Time will tell, it could grenade before then ha
I have a 1990 legacy and I just checked the fuel pressure before the fuel filter (new fuel filter) and I got 29 on idle and 31 psi with elevated RPMs. The manual says it should be at 36psi. Is this enough of a drop in pressure to give me the hesitation that I'm getting?
Wow! Did you get any sort of discount on parts by featuring AWD Auto Kirkland? All in all great series! If you ever need a helping hand on your Legacy I'm in. Subscribed
¿where can i find literature for restoring this car? i loved this video, i want to get started on restoring cars and i got this legacy 1.8 gl (1990) with 200.000 kms (inherited from grandpa), im a civil engenieering student and when i finish my career i want to start restoring it, i mean real full restore, i want those 130 hp back if its possible. any help will be welcomed :) greetengs from Chile sorry about my english. 55
Nope. Still runs great. Slayed the streets when we had a big snowstorm last year. Have a set of WRX brakes to go on next but haven’t had the time to get it filmed.
@@drivingsports excellent. I'd love to see more as time allows. Thank you for the quick reply. I've been following your channel since subiesport magazine roughly.
If you already have the engine out why not replace a few more things? Oil pump, crank and rod bearings, piston rings with hone? This stuff is cheap! Where is the important work? Machine work, assembly, diagnostics?? Did they even do a compression check? or check oil pressure with a separate gauge? Spending the entire episode sifting through predictably worn out seals and parts is a waste of time.
Loved the breakdown of what was replaced, why it was replaced, and possible age. Looking forward to more!

when the engine dies. throw in a phase II 2.2
I'm excited to see more of this! It's amazing how well these old cars hold up.

you should make a list of everything your doing to the car and where your getting them done also what kind of power are you trying to get
omg you have no idea how dope this is for me i got one of them in my yard
My legacy postal has just under 360k and is still running strong
Is it a good idea to get one with around 293,000 miles on it?
I've always wondered why 1st gens have noninterferance engines and later models do not. Can you elaborate?
finally sad its so short but thx you
I have one of those cars that has 325,000 miles.
Is it worth getting one with 293,000 miles on it for $1k?
Great video, side note, You sound like a math teacher with erry curls, then out of no where it's a bald huge muscle dude with a beard, lol

my family has one that has just under 500,000 miles on it..
What about 56,000 miles on a 1991?
+Cooky_ 20 that’s crazy-low mileage.
