I also got unwarranted higher grades twice. The first was just by asking the examiner about things I didn't understand - not to change anything. After looking at my test the examiner told me that I got 1 more point and didn't have to take the test again. To this day I don't understand why the examiner did that.
The second was more like the opposite of the video. I had done everything right in a task, except a small careless mistake with signs, and lost half a point which made me also lose one grade. I admitted that I was wrong but that I found it rather hard to also lose a grade. The examiner agreed and gave me the higher grade. Totally unwarranted, but very kind indeed.
All this took place at the university about 30 years ago.

When I was young I was one of the first kids in my school to have Internet, even before the school itself. So I would sell Cheat Codes for 50cent each game's worth. This doesn't make sense today, but I made over 100 bucks with this and when you're 8 years old that's good revenue. Also how I bought my own PS2 when it came out.

2 things I got away with:
-Parents told me they wouldn't get me any new console systems and I was banned from buying it. Mom came home one day to find me playing on a super nintendo: "I told you that you weren't allowed to buy it!" Me: "I didn't, I traded my star wars cards for it." Priceless look on her face.
-Parents would let me borrow a small TV to play games on the weekend, but I had to return it and do nothing but study during the week. Took some headphones and plugged it into my sega genesis and played sonic the hedgehog without a screen. Beat the first 'set' of stages too.

The one about the bike brings back a simular memory of an event that happened when I was a kid.
I was eleven and my family lived on a sail boat in Cat. Harbor, Catalina Island off the coast of So. Cal. My dad was the harbor patrolman there. We had taken a trip on our boat around the bend to a harbor and town called Avalon to stock up on groceries. On our way there we ended up being tossed around in a big storm that resulted in us losing our dinghy. For those who don't know, a dinghy is a small row boat and to live-aboards (people who live on their boats) it's as important to them as their car. So, losing it was a great loss to us. We lost it going around the bend where the shore was full of jaggid rocks. We never expected to see it again. About a week later my dad met a fisherman on the dock in Cat Harbor who asked if he wanted to buy a dinghy off him. And there it was, our dinghy! The front had been damaged but it still floated and worked just fine. It also still had it's CF numbers on it which is like a licence plate for a boat which makes it illigal to sell it when found. So, my dad said "yes" to the guy, took the dinghy, tied it up to his harbor patrol boat, and then left. The dude never persued him.

OK, This happened to me in the mid 80's...
Back then the McDonalds generally had a order station behind the store and one pay+pickup window on the side. (Note that the Modern stores generally have separate pay and pickup windows on the side.) Anyway, My best friend Joel and I worked at Compaq Computer in North Houston TX.
We had both signed up to take the Dale Carnegie program together. The problem is that the meeting spot was located in downtown Houston and the class began promptly at 6pm. This was a long drive and part of the program was about being on time, so tardiness was severely punished with the offender having to give an impromptu talk on arrival. As you can see, getting to our seat on or before 6pm was always a challenge, often we were unable toeat anything, much less even grab dinner.
The ideal situation would be to drive through fast food along the way and eat in the car before we arrived. However, the time was always between 5 and 6 so, as you can guess, the McDonalds was always encircled by a ring of cars waiting to order, so it was obvious stopping would certainly make us late. Then it hit me...
Don't most people generally order the same sort of meal at McDonalds? Of course they do! At that point, I made a bee line to the McDonalds. Of course, my friend Joel immediately protested, saying that there was certainly not enough time to wait in that long line. "You'll see", I said. Due to the large gap between the order station and the single pay+pickup window, I easily slid into the two car line waiting at the pay+pickup window, completely bypassing the order station. Remember, the order station was BEHIND the McDonalds, therefore the people in the order line CAN'T SEE the empty space around the corner in back of where the paying cars were waiting. Genius!
We very soon arrived at the pickup window and the girl greeted us with "Hello, you had the Fllet-O-Fish and the Dr. Pepper?" "No...", I replied. Shen then looked puzzled and glanced at her queue and said "So you had the McRib, Quarter Pounder and Orange Soda?" Again, I looked at Joel, he shook his head and I said "No..." At that point, she is really confused and looks at her list again... "How about the two Big Mac's, two Fries and two Large Cokes?"... Eureka! We thought! Immediately I replied "Yes, that's us!" At that point we paid in full and were on our way. Only a Formula One Pit Stop could have been faster!
We ended up easily making it to our class on time, AND with our bellies full as well! We wonder to this day if that same McDonalds, which was open 24/7, ever managed to get their queue straightened out... I'm sure they did after a dozen customers or so...

I have a similar bike story except when I found my stolen bike after two years, it was casually sitting on a bike rack without any lock. I recognised everything from the reflector holder that had no reflector to the old seat. Lucky for me, the person brought it to the shop, so it was it tip top shape when I grabbed it and casually walked off with it. I still have that bike today.

Having placed my daughters initials (in permanent inks) on her Big Wheel, she would ride on the multiple sidewalks on base housing. One day she came inside, used the bathroom and rushed back outside........ to find that her bike was gone. I kept on looking for it and in a couple of days I spotted it. I followed the young boy who was riding it, as he went back to his home. His mother started screeching when I told her that it was my daughters (I could see that those initials had been partially marked over). After having her son get off it, she picked it up and threw it in my direction..... she was actually angry that I had recognized it.

Like in #6: in 1980 I worked at a pizza and sub shop with my roommate.
We made the subs. Each one was heated briefly in the microwave before being given to the customer. In 1980 microwaves we’re still a fairly new device with sore warnings about pacemakers too near the machine and no one quite sure if they were totally safe or not.
This night a man came up to the counter to complain that he found a hair in his sub. My roommate, Debbie, didn’t miss a beat.
She put her hands to her head and dramatically cries, “It’s these microwaves! My hair just falls out by the handful and I can’t help it!”
The man went pale, apologized and took off at a trot.
    We all died laughing.

Ha ha. This happened back in the day when only corded phones were around. Being a rebel teenager, I was at a late night party. Realizing I was past my curfew, I had the brilliant idea to call my house knowing darn well my dad was up waiting for me to get home. When my father answered, I replied "its ok dad, I got it" and my friend on another extension at his house, replied " Hi my so-in-so". My father said "I didnt know you were home" , In which I replied, "I've been home for hours dad". Father said "Oh, ok, I didnt know". Yep I got away with it. Never had the nerve to try it a second time.

Before getting married, having kids and careers, my friend (hey Diana) who I’ve known since we were 5 years old (no joke, we had the same babysitter 😂) and I used to love doing our own social experiments. I even used one for a sociology class paper on public social norms. I got in a wheelchair and we both went into Kohl’s. We pretended to be sisters and I pretended to have a physical disability. She pretended to be verbally abusive to me, yelling and cussing at me, I had her run me into stuff, threaten to “put you back in the cage when we get home” and I would cry and beg her not to. I even had her sound and appear to be financially abusing and exploiting me. Not one person, NOT ONE, said or did a damn thing or even spoke up or asked me if I was ok. Conclusion?? Most of the human race are a bunch of assholes 🤣

In 1996 I was with friends at a bar called the Lonely Hearts Club where a guy was sitting there with a bayonet to his neck the whole time. He sat at the bar right next to the entrance to the toilets, so pretty much everyone in there saw him. Bartender just kept serving him drinks and although one guy kept talking to him where I overheard "it's not worth it" as a conversation snippet, nobody else stopped by to talk to him. 3 hours later the guy committed suicide right at the bar, while I was in the bathroom. I walked out and stepped into a huge puddle of his blood. Cops told us all to leave. Were we assholes? Not really. It's not that nobody cared, it's just that we didn't want to face any repercussions. Suppose I had come up to him (I didn't know the guy) and started to talk to him. 3 possible outcomes: he could've been psycho, in which case he'd kill me and then himself OR he could kill himself and then his family would sue me for failing to help him, OR his family could sue me for directly contributing to his state of mind and causing his death. Calling the cops was also not an option since nobody had cell phones back then and the nearest pay phone was far away in the freezing cold. It was the bartender's responsibility to cut him off (pun intended) and call the cops, if anything. Who knows, but this happened on New Year's Eve 96/97 and on the following New Year's Eve, the place burned to the ground.

I had a professor that didn't allow laptops in their room because they thought people would be too distracted by social media and gaming to pay attention. For a school that costs about $30k/year +housing, +food, +textbooks +uniforms for the hospitality campus; no one was going to be that stupid.
So, I went out and bought a desktop, keyboard, and 32" monitor. I got to class early to set it up while the professor stepped out for a coffee refill. When he got back, he tried to get me to pack it up and take it back to my dorm, meaning I wouldn't be allowed back into class. One of my classmates who still had a copy of the syllabus pointed out that he singled out laptops and phones specifically. At that point someone who had a tablet said "oh, guess I'm fine then" and got it out of their bag. Pissed but accepting defeat, he told me to just bring my laptop from now on.
To drive home the point, I played Pirates of the Caribbean on the top half of my monitor the entire class while taking notes on the bottom half. The girl behind me couldn't stop laughing, making it seem like stupid rules can be much more of a distraction. The next term, he had removed that rule from the syllabus and simply put "electronic devices are permitted for educational purposes only".
    I can live with that.

The Health Dept. rules that were in place for restaurants also applied to cookoff booths; things like hot running water, 3 compartment dish sink, separate hand wash sink, etc...things that would be impossible to comply with...IF you were selling the chili. We didn't sell chili...we sold raffle tickets for small door prizes donated by the local merchants. A raffle ticket gave you access to all the chili you wanted. So, the chili was actually given away, and the only thing sold was raffle tickets!
