They gave special powers to the holders. Lara tracked them down around the world, and Willard stole them from her at the end of the Antarctica level. He then used them to transform himself into the spider. Lara kills Willard and takes the artifacts back. Lara never actually uses their power for her own.
When I used to play this as a kid I would use the cheat code to get all the secrets in order to unlock this level. Now I'm determined to get all the secrets legit my next playthrough. Only problem is they're harder to get than in 1 and 2.
@@badassgamez-official When I finish uploading TR2 and the gold levels, I'm determined to go through TR3, finding all the secrets this time. The normal way.

What were the artifacts for? The ones you picked up in Meteorite Cavern?
