I befriended the crows in my neighborhood. Best thing I've ever done for my daily domestic life. They never poop on our stuff, they bring occasional gifts, they follow the car on short trips as if they're protecting us (and we let them believe it), they're a great alarm system, they always bring by their new babies and it's somehow communicated to the little ones that our house is the "cool" house. Also, I never need to worry about oversleeping because if I do, they continuously fly past my window until I notice and wake up. Not crowing -- just doing fly-bys. They stop by to say hello throughout the day and they include me in their occasional but sad funerals. I know I sound crazy but this is actual, typical scientific crow behavior. We have about 50 every day until winter and then it swells to 200 or more. They really are the coolest, sweetest, funniest animals. We feed them twice a day and when they gather there's silence, except for the shifting of their feet along the roofline, as if in reverence. They wait for me in thick, iridescent black lines surrounding my yard -- all along the rooflines, powerlines and branches. When I toss the food around the grass, there's this graceful flurry of wings softly beating all around me, as they spiral around me and flutter to the ground to eat. It never gets old. I keep a large birdbath for them as well because there are no clean water sources around where I live. It's a pain to clean it all the time, but they love to groom themselves and sometimes "wash" their food. I live down south so the water never freezes. I've tried to feed them on a big platter but they rather look through the grass. I'm not sure if the big round object spooks them, or if they want more space, or if they just enjoy the foraging. My neighbors were pissed at first but now they enjoy them too. I think once people realize how community- and family-oriented they are it surprises them. They're not creepy at all and they're so damn smart. Their ability to communicate with other species (not just humans) is outstanding. My dog inadvertently taught them how to "bark."😆 Sorry for the book. I just love the little guys.
I've never 'befriended' crows, but I am cordial neighbors with them. I mimic their caws, and they start doing the same caw back so I can be their own personal echo. When I'm gardening, they sit on the line and watch me. I am free entertainment. They are in every way the superior wild neighbors; the absolute worst are the squirrels, who curse and deliberately aim for my head and throw things at me when I walk under the trees. True and irrevocable a$$holery 😤😠
@@CleoHarperReturns as an avowed crowbro i agree. my crows are on mixed terms with me because i fed one of their babies directly one time while it was on my roof. it fell out of the nest, and i couldn't put it back in the tree (a redwood - not climbable or ladder-compatible), and there are many outdoor cats and off-leash dogs where i live, so it wasn't safe on the ground, and the roof was the closest option. the crows were fine with me picking up the baby. they were fine with me setting it gently in a basket with a towel inside. they were fine with me carrying it up onto the roof, especially when i held the basket over my head like it was some kind of monarch child. what they were NOT fine with was me coming up onto the roof later to set a bucket on its side for the beeb as a windbreak/rain break and putting a piece of kibble in its beak. that part was clearly some form of assault. several years and countless hot dogs later, we are on okay terms again, but that was still one of the most heartbreaking things i've ever had happen to me. worse than any breakup or friend dispute tbh. i was sad for months.

I have not tried this personally, but I've seen from crow-friending folks online that you can sprinkle some cayenne pepper on the peanuts since squirrels have taste receptors for spice but crows do not! Apparently it helps keep the squirrels away from your crow food lol
This was a super fun watch! Don't feel guilty about your seems. Abby Cox has several items in her historical clothing collection from the Victorian era where people obviously meant to go back and finish their seems and just never did, so you are just following in a long line of people sewing for themselves. It is a good idea to finish them for both washing and longevity purposes but absolutely no shame. :)
You look so cute!!!! The top/corset(stay)/ skirt combo is chef's kiss. Have a wonderful weekend, Maksyteers! Rachel, are you going to do anything fun for the 25th anniversary of The Mummy?
seriously, every time i see videos of you making clothes like this, it makes me feel so warm and reassured. So much of my realization that my personal style is vintage and cottagey and historical, came from watching your vids. Getting to see you wearing clothes you've made and looking so casual and comfortable in them made me feel much more safe attempting to do it myself. I never get sick of you making corseted tops or cottagy blouses or big voluminous long skirts, it's always inspiring to me and I'd watch the whole process over and over and over, because it helps me figure out how to do it myself
This comment brought so much warmth to my heart, because I feel exactly the same about Rachel's style. And I am so proud that I do wear some of those styles in public now. not always, but it's not as frightening as it used to be to me. anyways, just wanted to wholeheartedly agree to your words - I could watch that kind of Rachel content for hours on end. all the best to you and your vintage/cottagecore journey!
Really love all three, you did a fabulous job. You have become quite the seamstress. FYI; For neater inside look. Complete your lining as if it's a 2nd piece, sewing all seams. Attach the lining and blouse (or whatever your making) together. Good sides facing out on both pieces. You will fold the fabric to the inside on both pieces whish will create a hem. You can sew it by macior by hand, your choice. This will give your bloyse (or whatever) a beautiful finished hem all the way around, top and bottom. Also, all seamsate now hidden between your fabric and lining, which leaves you with a professional finish.
Looove doing this. I turned a plain white long sleeve shirt and embroidered bees on it. I work in a country club and the rich old ladies complimented it!
Macklemore ref cracked me up. Keep tossing those peanuts. The crows will catch on soon enough. I'm in San Francisco with only a fire escape on which to entertain the local bonded crow pair, and they have me really well trained. They show up on the railing of the fire escape right outside my bedroom window, and that's their signal for me to get crackin' with the peanuts. I put them on the fire escape ladder and the two corbies swoop in and go ham on the peanuts. Watching them up close (okay, from about eight feet away) is a delight.
I recently overhauled my wardrobe in a similar fashion. If you consider dying half of it black and the other half various shades of bruises and contusions similar. Also, after your last vid, I bought a crow caller and have since been trying to make friends with my resident crows. They kinda look at me like I'm crazy right now, but they like the peanuts, so win, I guess. 😅
I've been watching your channel for years, and even on my teeny-tiny screen I can clearly see how your sewing skills have evolved. Nice work kicking those patterns butts!

That embroidery machine is so cool and I never thought I wanted one until I watched this video... Now I have a ✨MIGHTY NEED✨ and all the loving little details and hand work is 😙🤌 chefs kiss! The yellow and white top is adorable and makes you look like a lemon meringue pie 🥧 in the best way possible. You picked the perfect skirt to make into the pants, they're flowy and light and perfect for the style. As always, a very enjoyable video and one that has inspired me to start cutting up my own wardrobe again 😁
Now I kind of want to try making secret pants out of a circle skirt. Imagine the DRAMA... The swoosh... I would like each of my pant legs to be its own individual half circle skirt please and thank you
Pardon me whilst i fetch a handkerchief as a i drool over Rachel's intro outfit! Omg love the combo of the blue skirt and that sweetheart, puffy sleeve top, and the floral stays
The pants and the vest corset look so amazing. I like the yellow and white top, too, but I think the brown ribbon you used at the top makes it look a little homemade. I think you should use the scraps of yellow fabric to make a ribbon for the drawstring and that will pull it all together. If there's really not enough yellow fabric, then maybe find a yellow ribbon that matches to use for the drawstring. Anyway, all the projects look pretty and it's super impressive how you upcycled everything.
I have loved watching your sewing continue to level up over the years- your final garments just keep getting cleaner and more polished. I mean- that 'corset' top?!
Videos of you making your everyday clothes are my favorite videos that you do!!! I love the cosplays, maksoween, and of course, the lil guys birthings, but you making vintage clothing is my favorite of them all!!
Your outfit with the white top, corset and blue skirt is HEAVENLY and I will be keeping an eye out for pieces like that because I just realized how much I love them!!!
Looooove the corset, the texture and structure from the blazer made it turn out sooo great! Also LOVE the pants. I need to do that for myself. I can never find culottes or palazzo pants that fit me right. I love a good thrift flip so I love this type of video! Even better when you're thrift flipping from your own closet 👌
I love upcycling/redesigning clothes! So often I look at something and like elements of it but not the whole thing. Redesigning it lets me keep the parts I love and customize it to my tastes! So fun to see the new things you brought to life! They suit you so well!

Rachel, I also began the side quest for "Crow Friendship," but alas, all my peanuts have brought to the yard are chonky, preggo momma squirrels 😂
Me too! I read crows also like cat and dog kibble so thats what I'm gunna try next!
I have not tried this personally, but I've seen from crow-friending folks online that you can sprinkle some cayenne pepper on the peanuts since squirrels have taste receptors for spice but crows do not! Apparently it helps keep the squirrels away from your crow food lol
sometimes they dont like the food, i saw a lady say to give them apples, they went completely untouched
🎶 _My peanuts bring all the chonks to the yard . . ._ 🎶
Oh, I don’t know. That seems more risqué than intended.
I love the Momma Squirrels. We have one who will take food right from your hand. She is so cute!
Now I know why I love Rachel so much. She is really inventive and could be a designerfor anything, homes, communities, gardens, etc.
This is me once again commenting with hopes that Rachel will see and realize that using projectors for sewing patterns is a huge game changer 👏🏻👏🏻
That cardigan with the mushrooms on the elbows is SO CUTE!!
Yes!! Anyone know where it’s from?
Shein! I have one
I loved it too! but seriously, all of her outfits in this video made me pause the video and stare and try to memorize them hahaha
LOVE this upcycling video!! If it sounds fun, please do more!!
seriously, every time i see videos of you making clothes like this, it makes me feel so warm and reassured.
And I am so proud that I do wear some of those styles in public now. not always, but it's not as frightening as it used to be to me. anyways, just wanted to wholeheartedly agree to your words - I could watch that kind of Rachel content for hours on end. all the best to you and your vintage/cottagecore journey!
same @ both of u guys. i will watch corseted tops and cottagy blouses and big voluminous skirts being made over and over
Really love all three, you did a fabulous job.
The biscuit tin actually having biscuits in instead of sewing supplies! 😮😂
Omfg the cookies actually being in the tin filled a hole in my heart that has been there since childhood.
I wonder if they make videos about the hilarious things non-native speakers say . . .
I've been watching your channel for years, and even on my teeny-tiny screen I can clearly see how your sewing skills have evolved. Nice work kicking those patterns butts!
My favourite part of my Saturday morning (I live in Australia). Thanks Rachel!
Wow!! So you're like, from the future!?! 😂
Hehe same here! Always a lovely wholesome way to start the weekend ☺️
Same here, I'm in Ireland :)
As a goth since I was young I've been cutting up clothes to make new ones forever. I love watching others do this. Im glad you started to record your endeavors.
That corset is absolutely lovely
Absolutely LOVE the upcycling video concept! Also, chatty mending videos would be fun too, especially if they ended with a little creative outfit ~reveal~ at the end
I appreciate that Rachel understands that slurping a warm beverage both improves the flavour and increases the release of dopamine. Long live the slurp!
someone NEEDS to tell this to my husband who keeps complaining I'm not capable of drinking quietly lol
I genuinely LOVE watching your Ads!
That corset top is exactly what we needed for my daughter's Zatanna costume. Thank you for inspiration and just general entertainment while hand quilting.
My leap of faith is to follow the precise instructions of sewing a pant without trying to reason it because if I try to think, I WILL FAIL. Just trust the process
"Put that thing back flip it and reverse it" was expected Missy Elliot remix of embroidery 😂😂 oh my
Loved it 😂 it was perfect somehow
I was waiting for a short audio of Missy there
yes yes same thought here 😂👌
They are beautiful and I am SO IMPRESSED with your sewing!! It’s very clear how much your knowledge and talent have progressed
THE COOKIE TIN! 😂 I don’t think it’s the worst joke you’ve ever made. I chortled heartily
The garments came out looking very pretty. 😁👌🏻 The amount of work was large and you took no shortcuts. 👏🏻
The Go Team drawings were too cute! Why is a drawn Rachel so cute?
She's ADORABLE! I squealed :)
Loved how these projects turned out!! I love when you make clothes that you’ll wear in real life. Don’t get me wrong, costumes, etc are great, but it’s nice to know that your hard work will see the light of day more regularly :) good job!
Ohhh that blazer! It fits you in a way I've been looking for soooo long. That one hurt me, but of course, the end product was absolutely perfect for you!
The sewing kit cookies were just… so perfect. The best bit I have ever seen.
The biscuit-tin turned into a sewing-tin...
As the ancient prophecy foretold!
Who wants to see a decoupaged and decorated sewing tin video from Rachel?
This has inspired me to pull apart a shawl I knitted but don't like. I love the yarn so I'm gonna make it into a scarf. 😊Love your videos. 💖
I love how happy Rachel looks when she's showing off the new looks
For anyone that hates taping printed patterns, I have seen people sew the paper together instead of taping and it works really well 😊
All of your outfits and clothes you make are always so STUNNING
I love these simple more mundane projects she has been putting out
They are good for beginning seamstresses who can't tackle more complicated projects yet.
no the butter cookies bit was actually the best joke i've seen all week
Now I kind of want to try making secret pants out of a circle skirt. Imagine the DRAMA... The swoosh... I would like each of my pant legs to be its own individual half circle skirt please and thank you
Cute!! The under-bust corset is my FAVE!
Kay, i am in love with those secret pants. The swoosh! The drama! She's everything
Thank goodness a return to the old video content! I missed these kinds of videos from you. ❤
My favorite days are Rachel Maksy Fridays!! I love your energy & attitude. And that you must do 3-at-once projects. You did it!! And all so cute!
Those clothes are as you say "So Stinkin' Cute!" You are so talented. Love a secret pant, it fits my gender perfectly.
You're a doll ❤
Rachel Maksy fridays are always the best fridays
I love that your desk chair project is still holding on! Looks so cute!
Pardon me whilst i fetch a handkerchief as a i drool over Rachel's intro outfit! Omg love the combo of the blue skirt and that sweetheart, puffy sleeve top, and the floral stays
Watching this journey of yours in the world of sewing is fantastic. The improvement... THE IRONING! 😮
Keep up the good work Rachel!
The top is very cute, but I wanted to see a bit of yellow on the sleeves.
That corset is SUPER cute. And given how expensive even a basic corset top or bodice is, I must now make one for myself!
The results of all the up-cycled outfits are absolutely adorable😍 I especially adore the milk made top. Thanks for sharing Rachel🤗
I'm so glad you included the eclipse footage, I saw totality and it was so magical
Totality buddies!! Where did you see it from? I went to Texas
I have loved watching your sewing continue to level up over the years- your final garments just keep getting cleaner and more polished. I mean- that 'corset' top?!
I simply wish I had the confidence to make stuff out of nothing!
Those brand new outfits are so beautiful!
I'm in AWE!
Videos of you making your everyday clothes are my favorite videos that you do!!! I love the cosplays, maksoween, and of course, the lil guys birthings, but you making vintage clothing is my favorite of them all!!
You are so right about wearing upcycled clothing much more than things you just don't like
Is it even a clothing video without Rachel kicking her leg? As always, a pleasure.
So glad you swapped skirts, the first one was so cute and smooth, plus secret pants turned out so well
Your outfit with the white top, corset and blue skirt is HEAVENLY and I will be keeping an eye out for pieces like that because I just realized how much I love them!!!
i admire people like rachel who always upcycle her clothes
Looooove the corset, the texture and structure from the blazer made it turn out sooo great! Also LOVE the pants. I need to do that for myself. I can never find culottes or palazzo pants that fit me right.
I love a good thrift flip so I love this type of video! Even better when you're thrift flipping from your own closet 👌
I love upcycling/redesigning clothes! So often I look at something and like elements of it but not the whole thing. Redesigning it lets me keep the parts I love and customize it to my tastes! So fun to see the new things you brought to life! They suit you so well!
I love how Rachel can look more aesthetic in her goblin form than I do on a daily basis
Rachel's definitely leveled up in her sewing! I'm so proud!
Eeeeek I love Fridays! My dose of serotonin has been fulfilled ❤
Actually, I think you making clothes for yourself is my favorite Rachel genre!
rachel: wow i have so many skirts of this color. i should do something with them so i have less.
the skirt of the exact same color in the sponsored portion of the video: *sweating*
I'm really honored to have been hear long enough to watched your style evolve so much!
More, more, more! Love your clothing remakes!
Me too!
Every time I fall into a sewing slump of being unmotivated and too tired to start something, Rachel drops a video of her making the cutest damn pieces and my brain gets inspired all over again
A crow landed on my head as a kid and just chilled there for a while. I had one of those little snack things with breasticks and dip and the crow decided my head was the best spot
Rachel, you deliver the serotonin boost I need right when I need it! Thank you, doll!!
Been trying to get back into recycling and revamping old clothes too 😮
I think Rachel need a Overlock machine. With an overlock sewing machine or overlock sewing machine, seams can be cut, sewn and finished while sewing. They can also be used for applications such as sewing in a zipper and creating beautiful decorations with specific stitches.
SECRET PAAAAAAANTS!!!!
These upcycling video's are ones of my favorite! ❤️❤️❤️
