    Honestly Merida and her mother has a much deeper and well developed relationship than Anna and Elsa I don't know why most people keep referring to "Frozen" as "the one movie" that is not about romantic love when "Brave" came out first and is way better

    • @whitenoisereacts
      @whitenoisereacts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +206

      Yeah!! I totally agree. And Anna and Elsa are not well done at all in my opinion

    • @MarceloSilva-kp7mc
      @MarceloSilva-kp7mc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      I don't think is "better" 'cause Frozen deals with an implicit issue involving sexuality that has been ignored for a long time in Disney, I know, for a lot of people it seems a little unrealistic that Frozen does that, but the way Elsa had to hide her powers for most of her life made a lot of the community LGBT people identify, in addition to that Let Go handled this issue very well because the lyrics themselves say "concel, don't feel, don't let them know, now that they know, Let it Go" is just one of the reasons why Frozen is so much more loved that Brave, a princess who hides one thing for her whole life thinking that no one will ever accept her for who she is so she runs away when everyone realizes and the movie focuses on the younger sister's journey to go after her and tell her that she doesn't care about the secret because she loves her and knows that if she trusts herself she can do whatever she wants, that seams a very deeper than the story of a princess trying to turn her mom back into human and unify the peoples while trying to fight for her own freedom
      Without wanting to belittle of course, I love Brave and I think it's a very underrated movie because it made me cry many times, but FOR ME Frozen will always be Frozen

      @@MarceloSilva-kp7mc Lol Frozen has nothing to do with "lgbt". Elsa isn't gay and never was. Disney has confirmed that they're never going to give her a love interest because they want her to stand on her own, if anything, she is ace. EDIT: Also "let it go" was never about coming out, it was about escaping her oppressive life as Queen and getting to finally be free and be herself and not have to hide her ice powers, etc. Nothing to do with sexuality at all.

    • @MarceloSilva-kp7mc
      @MarceloSilva-kp7mc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      @@RedRoseSeptember22 well I think it doesn't matter if Frozen is about LGBT or not, what matters is that many LGBT saw themselves in Elsa, I saw myself in her because I found out I'm gay since I was thirteen, which was more or less the same At the time Frozen came out, the movie helped me in many ways to accept myself for who I am and I'm sure I wasn't the only one, besides it's not because Disney said Elsa won't have a romantic partner that she isn't gay, and again, the fact that Let It Go has nothing to do with coming out does not prevent many LGBTs from seeing themselves in the music because, as I said, what matters is that many people saw themselves in the film, there wouldn't be dozens of theories in the Internet about Elsa being gay if the possibility did not exist, moreover at no time did Disney deny the fact that the film is or not about this subject, they left it extremely implicit but never denied this possibility

    Young MacGuffin is speaking in a Scottish dialect called Doric iirc. His voice actor was asked to just mumble and make up stuff but he suggested the use of Doric since it's a pretty old dialect and most people have difficulty understanding it. He mentions it on an interview which I thought was cool since it gave it more authenticity instead of just mumbling vaguely Scottish-sounding sentences lol

    • @iuile

    I love the parallel of arranged marriage in this movie.
    Fergus and Elanor (parents) were an arranged marriage and she was not happy about it, at all. But they worked out and she loves her husband dearly and he loves his wife enough to AVENGE her as his immediate reaction after thinking she was dead. That's why Elanor was 'shocked' when Merida was strongly against it, forgetting how she felt and instead turned to lecturing her on what she believed to be best.
    Merida isn't against marriage. She just wants time to find herself and love being herself, she ISNT READY FOR SUCH A BIG STEP. That's why finding her own love in her own time was so important to her. Maybe one day, but not NOW.

In another comment section I read that they even went to an archery club talking with the people there and getting camera shots of different angles etc. So props for the animators and filmmakers to put the effort in and to convert it into this animation.

      He's number 1 in my book because of how much he loves his family and the lengths he is willing to go to for them -- even if it means risking his own life. He is beyond heartbroken, distraught, and absolutely devastated when he thinks Elinor has been killed, and so over the moon, beside himself relieved and joyous when he sees her return to human form, showing she's still alive. He actually trips from throwing himself to get to her in his overwhelming relief. And he was afraid of Merida getting hurt as well, and just wanted to protect her from what he deeply believed to be a threat. Not to mention he also acts as an attempted mediator between his wife and daughter and tries to resolve their conflict. Even though it may not have been a successful attempt, granted. He's selfless, a strong leader (albeit not the best public speaker but that is one regard he and Elinor make such a great match in role and personality), loves his family, the list goes on.

    I never considered how Elenor would have known the other lords' demeanours and understood how easily these men might break their alliances at the slightest of offenses. She knew the political mindfield her daughter was going to have to navigate when Merida becomes queen and the likelyhood that Merida would need to be the diplomatic one in her future relationship.

    Speaking of details in the animation, theres one thing I just noticed that never fully clicked for me. When Elinor finally returns to her human form and Fergus runs to embrace her and he stumbles over himself, it's not just because he is so overjoyed to see his wife who moments ago he thought was dead; it's mainly because Merida fricken chopped off part of his peg leg making it shorter and causing him to trip and fall.

    Young MacGuffin lines are all in a dialect of Scots language known as Doric. Doric is traditionally spoken on the North Eastern Coast of Scotland, between Inverness and Stonehaven. Kevin McKidd, a Scots speaker, requested the use of Doric, these lines were originally intended to be in gibberish:
    "Gif he war a wee bit closer A coud lob a caber at him, ye ken" (trans: "If he were a little bit closer I could throw a tree trunk at him, you know.")
    "It's jist nae fair makin us ficht for the hand o the quine that disnae want any bit o it. Ken?" (trans: It's just not fair making us fight for the hand of the girl that doesn't want any part of it. You know?")
    "Since yer sayin' it an' ah wisn't there t' see it maself, I'll gae ahead and take yer word fer it though." (trans: "Since you are saying it and I wasn't there to see it for myself, I'll go ahead and take your word for it.")

    This movie is one of my faves because for me, I don’t look like my mom at all. People are just now saying that my face is turning into hers, but growing up, I only resembled my dad. And we don’t have the same mindset. She has a more logical and calculating mind, while mine is more creative and artistic. We’ve had our time where it didn’t seem like we were ever talking to listen to each other, only resulting to yell at each other. But our relationship has definitely gotten better at listening to each other’s woes and coming to an understanding. I just wish that all happened when I WAS a teen.

    The bigger, working horses are a category called draft horses, which includes Clydesdale, Belgian, and Percheron breeds (among many others). I'd guess this one was modeled after a Shire.

    I like this movie, but I feel like it had a bit of squandered potential. There was such a good build up with the relationship between Merida and her mother, the conflict with the other clans, the struggle between the softer/more conventionally "feminine" power of the mother and the harder/more conventionally "masculine" power of Merida, tradition vs freedom of choice, all of that looked SO GOOD... and then it became Brother Bear (or should I say Mother Bear?) and they kinda dropped most of that for like 80% of the movie. I remember being so confused the first time I saw it in cinemas lol (btw there's a really good analysis video by eliquorice on all of this I recommend if anyone's interested)

      It's because they got rid of the woman who directed the beginning of the movie who was basing it off of her own experience with her mother and then replaced her with men. You know, literally getting rid of the person who would understand the relationship and its dynamics the best and replacing them with those who would have no idea. She's also spoke out about how horrible they've been to Merida and how it's irresponsible to the younger generation of girls. I would definitely look into it, she's great.

    Merida's horse is a Shire, the biggest horse in the world. They are in the draft breed, which has the easily recognizable huge-ness and feathering around the feet like the Clydesdale. Shire's are about 6 feet tall (At the *shoulder*). Known for being gentle giants. They're epicccc. I know I'm a little late to the party here, but two points about Brave I like to make.
    First: Will-O-Wisps, traditionally are malevolent. They lead people off paths and trails into bogs or swamps to get lost or drown. The whole thing about them leading you to your destiny is accurate...if your destiny is to drown. But they make a good plot hook.
    Second: The, "Mend the bond" part. I think that there are multiple layers to that. There is the basic, physical, aspect, which is the tapestry. Then there is the bond with her Mother. Third, is the bond between the four clans, which she broke, as well. And finally, there was Mor'Du. By killing him and freeing his spirit, she finished his story, and righted a long gone wrong.

    2:10 My hair was that red as a child lol. Super vibrant and orange. I'm almost 19 now and it's darkened a bit into a deeper red with copper highlights.
    Something people don't tell you is red hair can change a lot over one's life time. Red hair is a family trait on my dad's side. My dad has it, I have it, my aunt has it, my cousin has a red beard, and my grandma had it.
    My dad's hair faded to brown and you can't see the red anymore except in his beard. My aunt's hair faded from super vibrant into light blonde. My grandma's also faded to brown but she'd dye hers at that point.

    When I first watched this movie, I thought that the blue Will O Whisps were actually kinda cute and friendly, but I learned that in folklore, mostly Irish, Scottish, and British, that they are actually evil and supposedly spirits of the dead which would explain the ending when the demon bear dies and the whisp turns into Mor'du. I never knew that they were actually folkloric creatures. I always thought it was something Disney (Pixar) made up for the movie.

    I also find the names of the characters interesting: Elinor's name means Sunray or shining light. Whereas, Merida's name means Pearl. The most valuable pearls occur spontaneously in the wild but are extremely rare. You should check.out Joseph Campbell's Hero with a Thousand Faces (or something like that). Campbell studied cultures all over the world and spoke directly about the human truths through story concept you touched on. It is literally human to tell stories - it's in our very DNA to the point that when we're in crisis, we get a physiological payoff of hormones and reduced stress when we can find a story that makes sense.of the situation we find ourselves in (see Brene Brown's NF special for details). You touched into something very real.in that comment. And btw, Joseph Campbell was a big influence for George Lucas when he created Star Wars.

    I remember being fourteen years old and so, so incredibly hyped when this movie first came out. Tomboy princess who shares my Scottish heritage and whose name kind of sounds like mine, and with no sign of a male love interest? Sign me the hell up! But then I actually watched it. I couldn't put my finger on it at the time, but I couldn't help but feel like my expectations had been let down. Something was off, and I had no clue what it was. The thing with the bear plot is so convoluted, the intended message of the story is lost. Turns out, this movie changed directors midway through production: the original plot was going to stick to the mother-daughter relationship (which the original director had based off of the ups and downs she'd had with her own daughter); but then, Pixar handed the project to some fratboy who couldn't even be bothered to come up with a reason for why the witch keeps turning people into bears. Basically the story is fractured into two different narratives that are fine on their own but don't work when together.

We both loved it as I recall, the story, the humour, the music, and the acting were all spot on. So many layers to one movie and all very well pulled off. Sir Billy Connolly is magnificent as King Fergus, a stand out supporting character. His exclamations and interjections always get me laughing, particularly during the brawl scenes when he goes into battle single handed. The Scottish clansmen crack me up and the ending always gets a tear in my eye as Merida finally appreciates all her mother's love. Funny and poignant as al the best movies are.

    I don't know if anyone mentioned it already but the reason why just fixing the tapestry didn't work was because that's not what the witch meant by "mend the bond torn by pride" the bond that was torn was when they had that fight after the archery scene and it was "mended" when Merida was apologizing and saying that she loved her mom (during the sunrise) the reason why it worked even though it was sunrise already was because the sunlight hasn't hit the mom yet so she still got through with the deadline

    The difference between Disney and Pixar is pretty straight forward historically, Disney makes movies for kids, Pixar makes movies for everyone. With Pixar, the adults end up loving the movies as much or more than the kids. With Disney they tend to be enjoyable enough for adults to watch, but unless they spark some nostalgia factor the parents don't love them. In other words, you wouldn't blink twice at a group of adults with no kids going and seeing a Pixar movie, but it would be a bit weird for a Disney movie.
