Awesome job, ive been loving doing this deep water spj recently. A little fun fact, those aren't actually vermillion rockfish theyre called sunset rockfish. Verms only live up to around 450-500 feet of water max, everything deeper is called a sunset. Its confusing because they look the same, taste the same, have the same limits and regulations, but are actually different species of rockfish just based off of depth.
Nice video! I just recently got a Ocea Jigger F custom 1000. What rod would you pair this with and is it enough reel to rock fish at the depth you were fishing?
1000 might be a bit small for deep water rockfish. I suggest you spool it with 20lb braid, and pair it with something like shimano game type slow J medium action.
A live bait you can't control or always tell what's going on at the end of the line. Slow-pitch gives you control over the action of the bait, and you feel everything going on at the end of the line.
Thin rod is always my favourite. It has a lot more fun then using thick rod. Check out Japanese fishing, the theory for Asian is to use thinner lighter gear to catch fish as possible. i think this rod can handle PE3-4 , means the most which is about 60lbs. So my estimation for your answer is yes. Even if wrong, it wont be too far off.
I love slowpitch jigging!

I have a Goofish monster deep edition, and just ordered the new 2024, 1,000-gram rod, yesterday. I love using Goodish slow-pitch rods.
Nice videos〜
How do you like the rod I just bought one the medium heavy .. can’t wait to use it
It works well for California rock fishing. From 150 feet until 650 feet.
Nice! Did you end up limiting on vermilions? Crazy that even the deep water is mostly greenspots!
I didn't limit on the red. The boat limited red quickly. The bait guys were catching those 2 at a time :)

I have my shimano Ocea jigger f custom paired with a Seafloor control JAM rod.
Jim fan. What is your favorite live bait rig for deep water rock fishing ? Do you have a video on that ?
A live bait you can't control or always tell what's going on at the end of the line. Slow-pitch gives you control over the action of the bait, and you feel everything going on at the end of the line.
How many # leader do you use with 20# braid?
Depends on the target species and the structure. I use 12-15 feet of 20-80-pound fluorocarbon.
The rod looks too thin, do you think it would be good for 20/30kg fish?
