So I have a 6000 penn fierce combo for surf fishing but I was wondering if the reel would be good for basic vertical jigging and if so what rod should I get to pair with it
Great video as always. I finally got my wife to upgrade her setup to a bait cast because she kept getting "tip wrapped". That is a good tip about reeling though before dropping the rod tip. My solution was telling her she needed to upgrade to using a bait cast reel. :)

I'm new to vertical jigging and your video here is very helpful, but I do have a couple of questions you didn't cover. How long is your 60# fluro leader? What knot are you using for your braid to leader connection? Is a swivel for this connection advised or not? My thinking is the swivel might limit the action of the "flutter" from the jig? What size spinning reel would you advise? I have a 5000 and 6000 Penn and Diawa. Finally, I've acquired some old southern CA vertical jigs that were used for yellow tail. They are 200g with a big treble on the bottom. I can clean them up, re-paint, etc. Would you use them? Keep the original treble design or go with a top j-hook? You can tie the Leader to a ball bearing swivel too! Much better actually, because it helps the jig to spin around crazy , also it can handle much more pressure. Trust me , and try it out 😁

My favorite fish I've caught was the Short Bill Spear fish (Chucker) on the wall behind my head in my profile picture. I was fishing for Blue Marlin off the coast of Kona. A big blue is on the bucket list!
Those jigs work great for halibut too, but you have to keep it on the bottom. Speed is key to get the jig to swim properly. I always recommend to drop it 15 feet or so and take a few practice swings to see what the different motions are doing for you.

We love getting hooked up on snapper, preferably red snapper when they're in season!

The giant trevali & dog tooth tuna is funnest to shoot spear fishing. Love yellowfin tuna fishing.
